>Birds of Prey
>R Rated

What the fuck? Why?

Nudity and good looking women being naked sales a lot of, oldest trick in the world. As others mentioned, showering, changing, seducing, etc. . Not that I mind, I kinda struggle to completely understand why people think a woman seducing someone for her gain is weak. Succubus are some of the strongest fantasy characters, same as Amazones.

Its good that it has a all female team behind it then. :)

All female team is not above to exploit the chance. Surely some woman like to play with sexiness, exploitation, etc. .

Hopefully it works out fine for everybody involved. =)

"Different"

Does that mean it's actually going to be good?
No clue about the source material, but they could go for a femme fatale type of thing (Succubus type of thing). They are named Bird of Prey and they could include different personalities while telling a compelling stories.

I, Tonya showed how savvy Margot Robbie is as a producer. I'm cautiously optimistic.

How is an all-female R-Rated lower budget team-up "worrying about Marvel"?

Targeting the R rating with their first female team up just screams "We're EDGY & GROWN UP unlike those other guys!!".....at least to me.

Seems like the exact thought process that led to Batman being a murderer in BvS. Our Batman kills!

I want it to be Rated R since I don't want a kids movie, but knowing WB and their need for mass-market appeal, they're not going to do that. Cathy Yan has her work cut off for her. I hope she doesn't split in the middle of production like Famuyiwa.

Yeah sex sells, but only to a certain extent. Superhero blockbusters that rake in the cash do so because they appeal to everybody. Releasing a female superhero team-up movie and targeting it at men who want to see their boobs is completely misreading the audience for superhero movies in 2018.

I like this.
I've never been a Harley fan but Robbie's got her shit together and she's obviously very ambitious.

Now I need to find a church so I can light a candle and pray they'll go for Oracle and drop that boring Batgirl bullshit.

My intention was not to focus solely on boobs and stuff. Just that strong female characters can work in R rated movies despite nudity and stuff. Nudity in itself isn't bad or sexual.

I'd watch that but could you imagine the meltdowns? lol
I do too, as long as it is actually good.

The smaller budget means that it won't bomb, no matter what. They're aiming for Deadpool numbers.

Batman v Superman was rated R because of the extended Superman getting stabbed sequence. It doesn't mean the movie will be particularly different from the other DC movies.

The upside of a lower budget and being R rated as well means it will probably be fairly hands off from WB/DC compared to a couple of their past blunders. Whether or not this Cathy Yan is up for the task tho remains to be seen

Hoping the batgirl casting is dope, dont want no bums in my batman universe

Why isn't this Gotham City Sirens? Was Harley ever specifically tied to the birds of prey?

I kinda doubt the R rating is to push anime fanservice nonsense. Pure speculation, if I had to guess the director wanted the freedom to explore the relationship and sexuality between lgbtq characters. Harley and Ivy(assuming she is in the movie). Am I wrong in thinking gay content gets less leeway from the MPAA for a pg13 rating? Or have they gotten better over the years?

I don't know much about Cathy Yan but I don't think she has the sensibilities of a frat dude.

R rated, bring on the tiddies and blood. Small budget, so it has to be character driven I hope and not all flash and garbage suicide squad style.

That R isn't just going to be for violence. There are going to be so many shower/dressing/undressing/seducing bad guys/sexy bedtime clothes scenes. You're literally going to have people arguing over whether they got away with showing Harley's nipple. This is DC, the people who brought you Harley getting changed in front of a yard full of guys. They're going to exploit the crap out of these women and the R is going to bring men in to see just what gets shown.

DC also brought you Wonder Woman, which had little-to-none of that male gaze garbage. One would think with a female director, writer, producer/star, and ensemble cast, they could easily find ways to make use of the R rating without resorting to exploitation.

Again, with a female writer and director in charge, I doubt this is gonna be a T and A show. It'll be for violence and adult themes.

So you are saying that a kiss between the same sex is R-rated? O.o
Seems kinda strange if it is no nudity or full blown sex.

Honestly, we will see. Just because it has a female writer doesn't mean it won't contain these elements. Your gender doesn't suddenly take this possibility away. Obviously it is reduced, but that's about it.

Hope the R Rating is actually meaningful here and not just an excuse for f-bombs and full frontal nudity
The thing is, for what do you need a R-Rating if it is not violent and sexual content?

No, I'm not saying that. The MPAA isn't the most transparent organization and filmmakers can be frustrated with them.

Lewis notes that the talking heads in Dick's documentary also argue that the M.P.A.A. is generally harder on films featuring gay sex or characters than it is on movies featuring straight sex. Further evidence for that claim can perhaps be seen in the PG-13 ratings the M.P.A.A. gave to recent films, including last year's awards-nominated sports-comedy Battle of the Sexes—would the movie have been rated PG if its understated love scenes had involved a man and a woman, rather than two women?—and this year's teen dramedy Love, Simon. That film also follows a gay protagonist, and is rated PG-13 for "thematic elements, sexual references, language, and teen partying." Is homosexuality the theme in question?

According to Lewis, the M.P.A.A.'s logic is simple: "They are the average Americans—that's their argument. 'Most parents think that.' They're not saying that gay sex is good or bad—they're saying that parents would have an issue with their kids seeing that."

Harley kissing a woman probably isn't going to get them slapped with an R rating, per the article. I just think the director doesn't want to deal with bullshit regarding the MPAA having a back and forth asking her to remove things to fit a pg13 rating.

A preemptive "I just want to make what I want."

I didn't know that. Pretty bullshit that they make this distinction, shouldn't be a thing at all.
Good on them to preemptively rule that out and go for an R rating.

Didn't Margot Robbie talk to WB about how she was portrayed in SS? I don't think they'll do ever wrong this time.
