My biggest problem with the game. The pointless, tedious backtracking just to have another shot at a boss. When they're so difficult, you want to jump back in straight away, not have all your motivation to try again sapped because you have to make your way there (at half soul).
I don't mind the boss run back so much. I'm sorta used to it from dark souls. It's just the fast travel in general. There is so few fast travel points. Some times you have to slog through an entire area because there is no fast travel point in it. It's like one particular aspect I actually dread having to do in the game. I'd rather die over and over to bosses than keep going back and forth between stuff I already have done.

Mantis lords are wrecking me. Do I have to fight all three or just 1? Have my nail upgraded once and the spin attack. Starting to think I should maybe go through Crystal Peak first.

I did it with just the first nail upgrade and that is it. Was one of the first boss fights I did actually. Just learn the patterns...that is basically all there is to it. Once you learn it, you will do it ez pz. Took me a number of attempts but eventually got it and it because quite easy. Or watch a video on youtube to study the pattern.

You fight one, then two together. The only thing I think you could truly benefit from in that fight is the dash. Other than that, I sidestepped every attack. It's all about learning patterns in that fight. Once I learned the patterns it turned into a dance. My favorite fight in the game.

Agree. Once you get the flow of their attack pattern you can take them down pretty quickly.

White palace T_T

Let's through super hard, lengthy precision platforming at you for the first time at the very end of the game!

Having meat boy flashbacks (a game I gave up on it was so hard) somebody call a doctor.

flukemarm fight is ass. Guess I have to upgrade my nail to do this thing. 2 hitting these flying things isn't working.

EDIT: Anyone know any easy charms to get in early levels? Maybe I missed one. I believe I've bought all the ones from the vendors I came across already. I need one more charm to purchase a notch upgrade

Just skip it until later, or never.

I skipped almost every boss I found after Hornet until I had 3 nail upgrades, two health upgrades, and like half the charms. Then I just pretty much breezed through them.

The White Palace was this thing I saw everybody bitching about, so I was dreading it.

I can understand why it was making people bitch, but it was so completely my jam. I fucking love that sort of challenge.

Okay so I'm at the final boss but I'm positive I'm still missing tons of stuff. In particular I've only fought three dream bosses, have like 600 Soul, am missing half of the badges, etc. If I want to pore over the map and find more secrets, what should my strategy be? For finding where stuff is hidden?

Please don't say "whack every wall with your sword"

Defeated NKG, actually not bad as I first though. It took a little bit to learn how to distinguish certain attacks from each other as soon as they started, but once that part was down, dodging them consistently was the easier part.

Now I'm working on The Radiance and... I don't love it. The randomized elements to the attacks are a real pain in the ass to deal with and I don't see any good windows for healing. Right now I'm using a health boosting build to compensate for no healing but by the time I reach the 4th phase I'm down to one or two masks.

I came across this guide earlier today which maps where everything is. Not sure if you want to go that route.

Oh you should absolutely skip that fight until you can one shot the bugs. Once you do the fight is a total joke though.

I just pogo'd until a bug hit me and Abyss Shrieked when I was below and the fight was over in like 20 seconds.

Alright so I had to fully upgrade the nail and make the fragile strength charm unbreakable, but after that it only took a few tries to get down
The Radiance
.

I don't understand the story for this game.

This Lost Kin is kicking my ass. I feel like I need to came back later with more firepower or something

This guy was a motherfucker. My strat was concentrate on single hits and play the war of attrition. The protective shield thing helps to take care of the flying bugs but it is still a tough fight. Also cloak dash is very helpful

I'm so bummed. Anytime I quit the game now, it breaks my save. It reloads me with no abilities so I can't cast or heal. I thought it was my controller at first, but it's why my keyboard doesn't work either. I've completely deleted the game files and reinstalled it several times and it keeps doing it. I played awhile today and didn't have a problem and then all of a sudden it just broke.

Fucking hell, I even deleted the registry keys for the damn thing and it still corrupts my save as soon as I exit the game. WTF is going on with this thing.

I will say that the entrance to the Hive is probably too obscure for most players though.
Really? Found it right away. But maybe it's because I used a spell on those small bees outside of it to kill them, and the damage from the spell unlocked the secret passage (heard the "here's a secret!" chime too)?

Speaking of Ancient Basin...

Was I stupid for dumping all my money into the fountain?
Nope. Once you dump 3k into it total you get something in return, and it won't overdraw if you have more than that on hand.
Oh, good to know it won't overdraw. I can't remember how much geo I dumped in it and didn't want to come back and give too much...

Finally beat Hornet Pt 2. No special strategy, just got better at reading her patterns. I skipped Lost Kin and Watcher Knights earlier. I want another nail upgrade before I go back.

That was the last place I found. Already beat the bad ending & Parth of Pain before stumbling on it. Took me a while to find the enterence ( came into that side area origonally that is apart of it but no connection inside)

I beat her by spamming cyclone slash. Charms were Defender's Crest, Stalwart Shell, and the thorn one.

I don't understand the story for this game.

I got about 80-90% of the story but used this video which goes into detail about everything.

It does not require actively watching, just listening to understand if you are interested in learning. Helped me remember stuff I missed references to at the start

Beat the game for the first time last weekend at like 42 hours and 70% completion. I tend to take things slowly. I would've explored more but I managed to lose 15k geo and then just said fuck it, I'll end the game.

After a couple of days I came back to it though. Now sitting at 95%. Went for the second ending but
accidentally triggered the real last boss during the fight.
Died pretty quickly and on second try just ignored it, I don't wanna try it yet since I haven't run into any mentions about it in game.

So I guess Path of Pain next and the rest of the dream bosses.

One might say I really like the game.

After the first kill of the final boss, I mainly just looked at the map and looked at all the places that looked like there is a path I haven't gone through yet.

But dunno if that helps you.

I only need to beat Nightmare King Grimm and The Radiance and that's it. I already did all the rest of the sidequests. Got every upgrade, every charm.

But NKG is kicking my butt. I know their pattern now, I only need the execution.

Question... Is NKG harder or easier than The Radiance?

NKG is the hardest boss in the game, bar none.

All done! Such an excellent game. I can't wait for Gods & Glory and the Hornet story to release!

I'd probably go with NKG just because Radiance took me far fewer attempts to beat, but I in no way mastered her attack patterns the way I did with NKG. It was a damage race that I kind of cheesed by
equipping Unbreakable Heart, Joni's Blessing, Lifeblood Heart, and Shaman Stone and then spammed Abyss Shriek whenever I got the chance.

Finished my replay at 29 hours. Got 107% and did a few achievements I missed on my first playthrough (True Hunter, Passing of the Age, Memory, Dark Romance). Path of pain wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. The beginning was the hardest part imo. NK Grimm was pretty tough but also not as bad as I thought based on the first few attempts. I was tempted to try one or more of the speed run/steel soul achievements, but I think I'll let it rest for now. Still a 10/10, probably a top 10 GOAT for me.

There's a secret area within the White Palace that makes the original challenge look like a stroll in the park.
Does it unlock anything? I explored a good deal before I left to make sure I was t missing anything. Maybe I have more to look forward to!

Just trying to make sure I haven't done it yet.

Kind of but no. If you play specifically to avoid the triggers then the final outcome doesn't happen but this also means you won't have access to some things such as the true ending.

It would have been nice if there was an option to such as giving the delicate flower.

I actually have minus zero clue what's going on in this game, like sub-Souls of a clue.

All I know is that I'm exploring some old ant colony of a kingdom that is basically Souls'ed. Good enough for me!

That is exactly how I found it as well. Just did a blast on accident and woah entrance to an entire new area? I would have never found it otherwise.

Just beat this game with true ending, 92%, 30 hours.

Absolutely loved it. Easily the best Metroidvania I've played. I think the main reason I like it is that it's just so big and rich. There are so many characters to meet, a great variety of enemies to fight, lots of great rewards, tons to explore. Around halfway through the game the world really opens up and there's just so many things you can go and do. One thing I like about exploration is that the rewards generally feel very useful. Another thing I like about exploration is that the world you explore has history and lore. It's a place that characters in the game care about, so I care about it too.

If there's one complaint I have about this game, it's that it really needs a quick retry for bosses. There were bosses I had to re-fight over and over again. That's fine; I like hard bosses and I don't mind fighting them again and again until I master them. But what I do mind is spending the time to walk or warp back to the boss room, kill my shadow, etc. And also sometimes bosses have weaker, easier enemies you have to fight beforehand. Putting that all together, it just feels like the game is wasting a lot of your time that way.

Also I did not follow the finer details of the story at all. I guess now I'll go read what other people on the internet have to say about it.
