Does anyone know if Hollow Knight was discussed on Frame Trap? I can't really remember, because I wasn't interested in the game until I started playing it a week or so ago.

Edit: lol apparently the most recent one did. Wonder if they discussed it before that ever. I seem to recall it, but I don't know.
Definitely, I'd say late forties (episodes). I remember Kyle talking about it.

I was looking for their "final" impressions last night -- I found the Frame trap where Bosman, Ian, and Ben talked about it. I'd say Bosman was pretty ambivalent towards it, Ian slightly positive, Ben slightly negative. At some point they all soured on it though, I remember that much.

(Probably because they were initially super generous in giving the devs a chance to make it right with dlc, even weeks after release. Obviously, that... never really happened)

Ian liked the game a lot at first, then he changed his mind after a while. I remember him saying he was very glad looking for the ending online so he didn't have the disappointment of finding out for himself, lol.

Now that I'm finally left without PS+ for a while, I've been thinking of finally trying Fortnite out. It helps that I like the weird space-time nonsense they're doing with that world; I don't think I'd be trying PUBG, even if it was similarly free to play on the PS4, because it's just so god damn boring by comparison.

So cool, had my Love and Respect shirt on yesterday, met a friend of mine in the city and she got friends of her own with her. And one of the guys came up to me "Oh... Easy Allies! Those are the guys from... Game... Game... Game..." "Gametrailers!" "Yeah, right! Man, waiting for the new Game Sleuth!"

A bit surreal haha, and so random!

Btw. I moved to Cologne recently, anyone here going to GamesCom?

I know but people got pissed when he helped Keighley at E3..

Totally different situation. Ones the biggest gaming event of the year, the other is an award show with minimal game reveals. Getting made about kyle missing the game awards would be like getting mad about kyle missing a nindies showcase.

I dont even think I watched the allies stream the game awards last year, it seems kind of pointless to see them provide commentary on who won what awards. Game reveal reactions are fun, but I'm not a big fan of watching people talking over other people who are talking. See last years PSX coverage for another example.

I know some people find the awards insuferable otherwise though so I appreciate that the commentary is there for them.

I get that but that makes up a grand total of like 15-30 minutes of a two hour plus event. Like I said, I understand why people want to watch it but it's not a big deal to me either way.

Although I'm starting to think that I did end up watching it last year and was fine with it. Sometimes it's hard to remember what I watched liveand what I just watched clips of.

Btw, I am not a MS fanboy, I hardly play on my Xbox One X and I play mainly on PS4, but the success has been going to Sony's head and I think we will see a PS4 -> PS5 disaster (for starters it won't be backwards compatible as they don't want to admit they were idiots in buying Gaikai (which turned into PS Now)). I hope they will prove me wrong, but Sony isn't the nice company any more it was when this gen started.
I'm a little late with this but That makes no sense, you're vastly overestimating how much Sony cares about PS Now, a service that's still only available in like 10 countries and will probably transition to being Sony's Game Pass competitor long before the PS5 comes out.

Sony are making some bad decisions recently but it's not because they're idiots or supervillains, they're just prioritising their business interests over the customers interests and rightly receiving a public backlash as a result (which will hopefully force them to change course). Sony's biggest business interest moving to the PS5 is retaining their PS+ subscription base because that's where they're making a large a huge amount of money (I think Zhuge said at one point that they make more money off PS+ than Nintendo makes in total) and one of the main ways to do that is backwards compatibility. There's no way the PS5 is going to launch without Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, GTAV, etc. on it day one.

So in anticipation of their full playthrough of Metal Gear Solid during Easy Livin' I thought it might finally be time to jump into the MGS series. I've had the PC version of 1 since I was a kid and own 4 on PS3 because of a friend, but I never actually played any of them. After I found there was an easy way to play 1 on modern PCs, I decided it was indeed time to play my first Metal Gear Solid game, which I beat yesterday.

I found the gameplay to be pretty rough, especially by today's standards, but everything else: story, characters, voice acting, music... incredible. I was taken aback right from the start when those intro credits started rolling. It really felt far ahead of its time in many aspects, I can see why it's so loved and made it into the HoG. I went back and watched Damiani's pitch for it, which I had definitely watched previously, and realized it's actually super spoiler heavy! Guess I was lucky I didn't retain any of what he was saying. My knowledge of the series as a whole is pretty limited. I have no idea what 2 and 3 are about and only a general sense about 4 and 5. Most of what I know is just random things picked up by watching the Allies. The character names though, a lot of those have been ingrained in me after years of hearing them (Gray Fox, Ocelot, Liquid, Otacon, Psycho Mantis, Big Boss), so it was actually super exciting every time one of them showed up. It's nice to finally have characters to go with the names. End spoilers
I ended up getting Otacon's ending as I was curious what would happen if I gave up during torture and had no idea the game even had multiple endings. I liked Otacon's better but maybe that's becasue it's what I had in my playthrough, I read Meryl's is canon though.

After I beat it, I bought the HD versions of 2 and 3 on PS3 and Ground Zeroes/V on PC. I'm already a couple hours into 2, and again, seeing stuff I've heard of before is really cool (first mention of la li lu le lo, playing as Raiden). Gonna try to finish at least through 4 by the time Easy Livin' comes around. Excited to go on this journey. Wish me luck!

Really cool stuff, I love reading about people catching up on the Greats. The original MGS and Snake Eater both rank in my own Top 10. My own big gap is (was!) Chrono Trigger, which I'm starting this week now to that I've finished God of War. But now with the most recent HoG and not being someone who owned a GameCube, I also somehow have to find a way to play Metroid Prime and Paper Mario: TTYD!

Nice! MGS is one of the most remarkable game series ever imo.

Confession: My 3 favorite series are Mega Man, Metroid and Metal Gear. Yet I have never beaten an original series Mega Man game, and I have never even played Super Metroid or MGS1.

Seeing you and a couple of other people here mention that makes me feel somewhat more at ease, but I still woudn't be surprised if the market leader of this gen (Sony in this instance) is going to screw up their next gen machine/services (like it happened each gen since PS2 -> PS3 days).

I would be thrilled if they have Backwards Compatibility on the PS5 as I have an insane backlog on my PS4 (it's probably close to or over 100 games or so as I have bought way too many games this gen) so it would be cool to be able to play those without having to pay extra and without having to keep my PS4 connected.

It's just that Sony said multiple times that they think Backwards Compatibility is overrated and almost nobody wants it and from what I am seeing these last 2 years (and in the beginning of last gen), I do feel that Sony is a stubborn company (not like Nintendo is, but still).

I really hope I am wrong, but we will see.

The Cynical Side of me thinks you're right. But the Frosted Side believes Sony isn't dumb and they know that they can't get away with the same shenanigans in the next gen. I really feel like consumers are becoming more and more accustomed to being able to transfer everything they have from device to device, especially as they upgrade. Yes, phone upgrades are often incremental, but you could still transfer all of your apps/games/etc from an iPhone 4S to a iPhone X without any real issues at all, and that's not incremental.

So I think it would be very, VERY unwise for Sony to go down the "PS5 won't play PS4 games" especially with the rise of digital. It would be worse than the Fortnite/cross-play debacle. Because it's not really about "backwards compatibility" in the "isn't it fun to play old games?" and more about "hey, I paid for this and I'd like to keep playing it" because that's the place we are in terms of consumer electronics. The expectation is there and Sony would be crazy to ignore that.

I am for sure cynical/pessimistic in a lot of people's view (I like to call it realistic, although possibly not in this case) and I know I usually lean too much to that side.
But yes, I agree it would be very unwise and stupid of them to ignore backwards compatibility.
I hope they see it the same way and don't think like some companies do that they know better than the consumer. I suppose we will see in a couple of years.

I agree that having access to the stuff I have paid for is one of the main reasons for me. That said, I recently booted up Trials HD on Xbox One and I loved playing that game again (even though I only played it for a short amount of time, it was a great blast from the past).

I think if nothing else they are going to do backwards compatability just so they can offer all of the great ps4 games on ps+ to help ease the transition into next gen when nobody has anything to play.

Cynically they could just sell all of those games as remasters but sony really hasn't remastered very many games this gen (I think?)

They sold a whole bunch of PS2 games which were marginally editted/changed for the PS4.

I do think they remasted a bunch of other games as well (Shadow Of The Colossus has been remastered 2 times since it came out).

I just hope they do the same as Microsoft does: If you bought the game digitally, you get the game. If you own a disk, you can play the game when the disc is inserted.
This is what I want/what I hope for. From what I have heard, Sony doesn't offer a free download for people who digitally owned the PS2 rereleases they did on PS4.
They do sometimes offer Cross-Buy with PS Vita, which is a nice feature, so who knows.

I am still not sold on the fact they are going to do BC and if they do, I am not sure it's going to be free (my guess is a premium PS+ next gen with more features next to the normal PS+).
I don't know why I am so pessimistic about this as I like Sony and I love my PS4, I just can't see it going how it should be for some reason.

Btw, this is based on nothing at all, just my stupid gut feeling.

Yeah, the ps2 games situation is stupid but shadow of the collosus on ps4 is a remake, not a remaster. I'm very pessimistic about the ps5 too. I was the same way before the ps4 was revealed though. I remember having numerous conversations where I was adamant that sony would do the same always online stuff that Microsoft was doing. Look how wrong I was.

I feel like sony is smart enough to realize that they dont want to be caught looking old fashioned when next gen rolls around. I think (hope) name changes, cross play and backwards compatability will all be worked out then.

When did they say it was over-rated? I don't remember them saying that once, let alone multiple times. All I remember is that dumb Jim Ryan interview last year where he said something like "why would anyone play those old, ugly games?"

Regardless, you need to remember they're a business and they'll always downplay their weaknesses. The most obvious Sony example was when the PS3 launched with the Sixaxis and they called rumble a "last gen feature" because they were in the middle of a legal battle and couldn't include it. Then almost as soon as they settled, they released the Dual Shock 3. If you want another example, take a look at what Microsoft says whenever they're asked why they lock F2P games behind the XBL Gold paywall on Xbox when they're free on PS4 and Switch.

Twin Snakes is the best version of MGS1.

I eventually went back and replayed the original and missed characters having eyes the entire time.

If Bosman actually cares about good faces, he'll make sure they play The Twin Snakes.
It's meant to double as a Hall of Greats playthrough, so I think it's safe to say that's not happening. And while I can't say for sure, I don't think Twin Snakes is popular amongst the Allies anyway.

Besides, Twin Snakes does NOT have good faces. Look what they did to poor Otacon:
