That's some catch, that catch-22

The idea that women would be put off by a porn section at an event that advertises shows where little girls are sexualised is insane. Hentai doesn't matter in comparison.

If someone goes to an adult anime convention, and hentai is the deal breaker and not strike witches memoribilia being sold then idk fam
Hell, it puts me off a bit and I'm a dude.

I know what you're saying, but it's still not a good look. And there are people who won't even give the good stuff a chance because of that other stuff, let alone the porn. The anime community has a bad enough rep as is, no reason to needlessly reinforce that.

EDIT: Anyway, we all know where the line is in here so let's just be careful about it while having this discussion. Just remember that defending the sexualization of underage girls is an instant ban. We can talk about this without going there, and I do trust all of you, I just wanted to add a reminder on just in case someone gets the wrong idea about what is and is not acceptable.

I mean, loli being so damn pervasive to the point of being at the biggest anime convention in North America is an issue all by itself. But not nessesarily one that changes my point I think.

It's also another reason I can't fucking deal with anime a lot of the time.

I feel like if you were gonna have a hentai booth I'd want to either rent a private room to hock my wares, or buy two booth spots and get some kinda enclosed area with curtains so most people don't see it unless they open the door.

Yeah I think this would be a good compromise.

To clarify my thoughts, I'm not against +18 showings and stuff inside conventions. I understand why they exist and while I'm not personally into them people are free to do what they wish, with in the bounds agreed to by the lease and all that. But they should be clearly marked and off limits to the general public without ID.

There being videos of people humping dolls shows that wasn't the case. I haven't done any research aside from what I read in this thread/on Twitter so if that information is wrong feel free to correct me.

Also why wouldn't the fye and video rental store solution of the solid, black 18+ shields not work at a convention? Would enable those who don't want to see to not see while shoppers could easily see all product upon closer inspection. This all feels like problems we solved 20 years ago.

Without using spoilers, why is Jojo Part 4 typically so well regarded? Just curious.

Dope supporting cast, great antagonist that breaks the norm of what we're used to from past seasons, stands are utilized far more creatively than they were in Part 3, the lead's better than Jotaro, and so on.

Compared to part 3, it has a great main cast, better villains, a setting with a lot of personality, and much more clever stand battles. The anime also looks a lot better from a production point of view.

Araki also really refines the stand of the week formula. In part 3, most of the villains of the week are just henchmen with no real agenda of their own, and they really feel inconsequential to the overall story. While part 4 still uses the stand of the week formula, the characters have a lot more distinct personalities, with more varied and interesting reasons for doing what they do.

To quote what I said a few pages ago:

Without going too deep/spoilery, I like to think Part 4 did what Part 2 did with the series, in that it took the power concept introduced in the previous part & improved upon it by a ton, making for more "out there" battles with more unique abilities while living up to the "bizarre" in the title.

Plus in addition to what Moara & Lotus said, the anime is paced a lot better in that despite it being 2 volumes longer than Part 3, it's somehow 9 episodes less than Part 3's anime.

Parts Unknown
I'm gonna write about Part 4 for a little bit and why I think it's a pretty big improvement over Part 3, but there might be some mild, vague spoilers for Part 4, so I'll use spoiler tags just in case. Don't read this if you want to go into Part 4 completely blind.

When I think of Diamond is Unbreakable, the word that pops into my head is "Confidence". Part 4 just feels more confident than Part 3. This is the part where Araki seems to finally get a handle on the kind of story he wants to tell. As a result, Part 4 is a bold and unique departure from the globetrotting adventure of Part 3.

Take the Stand battles for instance. There are a variety of reasons for Stand battles to happen in Part 4 besides "Lord DIO sent me to kill you!" and not every Stand user that our heroes cross is necessarily out for blood. You also start to see Stands gain more utility in this part, and their potential outside of combat begins to be realized. Like, if you were suddenly blessed/cursed with your very own magical ghost follower that gives you strange powers, what would you do? Would you use it for monetary gain? Would you try and selflessly help those around you? Or would you use it for more nefarious purposes? Part 4 begins to truly ponder what a world full of people with these incredible and terrible powers would actually be like, and it is all the stronger for it.

From the downright inspired choice to go with a smaller, more intimate setting, which, in turn, allows for a much stronger cast of supporting characters, to the more interesting Stands and Stand battles, to the main characters who feel like an actual group of high school friends as opposed to the group of Part 3. Part 4 feels like a more fully realized world, and the stories that occur within that world are wonderfully bizarre.

Besides a stronger cast of characters and a more interesting plot setup, the fights are just a whole lot better. Only about half of the fights in Part 3 measure up to being at least as good as a normal Part 4 battle.

A big factor is that the characters who get the most fights in Part 3 are Jotaro and Polnareff, whose powers consist of punching things and swinging a sword. In a more straightforward series, that would be fine, but JoJo thrives on the weirdest abilities imaginable, so Part 3 is held back a lot. Part 4 completely avoids this by giving the main cast some seriously strange powers, letting everything really go crazy.

The fights and stand users of the week are also way more memorable (though it helps some of them become reoccurring characters but their debut fights are still great) than most of part 3 stand users

Yeah. When I went to AnimeNEXT, outside of artist alley (which is basically the wild west), the 2 booths that were mainly there selling porn doujins had roofs and a more closed off opening than other booths. Because there were 18+ panels at the con, anyone who was a minor had a special thing on their badge, so you don't even need to card people or anything. Shipping/porn is an important part of anime fandom all throught the world, and to pretend it doesn't exist would be pointless. You probably shouldn't have a VR Porn experience out on open floor for anyone to see, but it deserves to have space as long as you are protecting minors from entering, and people are aware of what it is before they enter. One of the weirdest Twitter/Tumblr dramas I'm sure that no one in this thread has experienced over the last few days is over the localization announcement of Dramatical Murder that was made a day ago at AX. Dramatical Murder has some VERY intense themes, and the discussion has been around the fact that even though it's an adults-only game, everyone lies about their age anyway and will get their hands on it, and this isn't stuff you should be exposing young women to. It's a real shit show of people not understanding that media for informed adults can exist, and that lying about being an adult isn't something any company can control.

And, when talking about women and hentai, please note that 99.9999999% of BL- ranging from the most casual PG love story to the most violent hardcore pornography- is made by women, for consumption by women. The reason you are seeing more "cute boy" shows out of japan the last few years- the billion of male idol series, the fact that a BL manga gets adapted a few times a year now- is because Japan realized that women do, in fact, have money to spend and would like to be catored to.

I still think 4 handle their villain better than 3 did even if Dio is maybe better

My problem with part 4 and it's villain is it's a "murder mystery" but we know who the bad guy is instantly... and that plot line doesn't show up until half way into the season. The villain also just feels like a dime a dozen quirky serial killer and doesn't have a dime of the charisma Dio or Kars did.

That has got to be the first time I've ever seen someone claim that Kars had charisma. I'm not joking.

Surprised these things generate such heated discussion when its probably doubtful they even reaching hundreds of thousands of sales/or even any sort of mass media potential.

Also how weird they are mentioning exposing people to it, when anyone can freely search for most of the CGs and Visuals and everything freely and with no restrictions on twitter and tumblr.

i like to imagine that Araki was planning there to be tons of pillar men, but he was like "shit how do i make fighting dozens of super vampires interesting?"

I like Part 4 because it feels less like a grand adventure like the previous parts, and more like a slice of life setting where weird shit keeps happening around the cast/town.

I legit went through Part 2 constantly waiting for the squirrel scene I had heard about from then and didn't care for anything else. well maybe except for the Hamon pigeon
I still do enjoy Joseph nevertheless, don't get me wrong...

Also Caesar's death is lame when you compare it to
Shuu's in Fist of the North Star

I'm sad people can't remember the true best pillar man San Viento
For me he and Whamuu were the only memorable Pillar Men

Kars just kinda feels like a throwback to Araki's earlier works - like one last sendoff just before he soft-reboots the series with Part 3

Probably BBQ Chicken considering I'll sometimes make pepperoni & bacon pizzas with whole wheat bagels at home. I'm also rewarding myself by updating my wardrobe with a bunch of new shirts & a new bathrobe.

I just checked, my gut is now 47" compared to the 53" that I started with, which basically confirms I should be able to go down a shirt size now. Hell, I'll probably have to buy a new belt & possibly even new work shorts by next month.

Thanks, appreciate it. Yeah, the 2nd month is when I finally started to feel like I was able to notice some changes & by month 3, being able to actually see the fact I could go down notches on my belt felt great & way more motivating compared to the first month where it felt like I was only noticing the difference if I measured myself or had someone point it out.

I'll have to figure out a way to make a comparison photo between what I used to look like compared to now. Funny enough, my dad used to think I didn't look good with facial hair, but now is completely okay with it since my face has slimmed down.
