Frenchy here. Been following and watching these racist X person yells at Y person stories happening in your country for a while...
It's fucking unbelievable to me how ignorant and braindead most people are to this problem. The shit people go through to NOT see or be aware of all these issues today honestly makes me want to punch them in the face.
What I'm saying is even here in France, sure we have racism as well but def not as bad as these examples or at least not that common. But despite not being particularly invested in politics I still "feel" it, very strongly. And yet all around me when I talk to people about it, it's always like they live in this nice bubble where they don't really "feel like it's worse than before".
"But Antoine, you can't expect people who don't live in the same environment to be aware of all that blahblahblah"... SURE I fucking can, it's 2018 we have all the means to have a good grasp on all this shit, and not turn a blind eye on it, no matter where you live. It infuriates me, the lenghts people go to to just not have to go to sleep at night telling themselves that "no the human race is totally not filth garbage, we just tend to overreact is all".

Groups of skaters annoy me but unless they're putting bystanders' health in danger I'm not gonna bother them. There's just not a lot of places for them to go and it's a positive outlet; they could be doing a lot of worse things. If they're in an empty office building parking lot I don't care (which I think is the case with these kids) but sometimes you'll see them in areas where people are walking around acting kind of careless and that annoys me a bit.

Have you been to rural towns in France? I grew up in two and the level of racism was pretty damn high. Like, people complaining about arabs all the damn time.

i remember in the early 00s when i was out skating with friends somewhere where we shouldn't, and the cops came, they were super chill 100% of the time. they treated us as humans and asked nicely if we could leave after doing a few more tricks, so we said "ok ok, no problem" and then we did our thing for a while longer and left. no need for anyone to ever be a bigoted brute.

Just want to add to what others have said,
One is hating somebody based on the way they were born, the other is hating somebody based on their behavior. It's not even in the same league. That's the problem though and part of why racism is such a problem in America, people don't want to acknowledge the nuances, it's all just the same. No, it's really not, don't equate it. Calling somebody the N word is not the same as calling somebody an asshole, for example. Calling somebody vile human thrash that has proven through their own actions to be vile human trash, is just stating reality. If the person doesn't want to be thought of in that way, they can stop being that way.
