"Their games don't interest me, so I don't see what the problem is."
Not sure how a service about renting you games, that doesn't have games you're all that interested in, has to be a problem to those who aren't interested in said games.

I get people using that with stuff that is actually a issue, like the Fortnite account lock stuff, but with EA access, nah, it's not a big problem if it's not on a platform.

I honestly can't make heads or tails of what point you're even trying to make here.
Sony = good
MS = bad

People twists themselves into pretzels to pretty much just say that even using other companies as a stand in to represent MS.

If the rolls were reversed these people would be praising Sony for giving them options while saying evil MS denied them of choice.

We can stop the tap dance routine from these people the only defense of Sony denying EA access is certain gamers will just go along with whatever Sony does even if it limits their own choice. Sony is always right in their eyes.

Lots of people sure are jumping through hoops to have less options for consumers.

Sony knows best, these people seem to like it when Sony makes decisions for them.

Why are people even bringing up the value arguments? If you don't find it worth it you dont subscribe. The issue at hand is Sony isn't even giving PS4 owners a choice to decide for themselves.

I mean it's literally in the post you quoted. A recent example would be that Black Ops 3 wouldn't have been a ps plus game if Activision had their own service. One service is devalued to sell additional services. If you don't agree that's fine.

I got a slippery slope for you. A console maker gets so much market share that they start denying options for their users.

No BC, No EA Access, No Crossplay, Locking 3rd party accounts from being used on other consoles, No name changes, No self service digital return system, No Game Preview/Early access program, Banning accounts for charge backs.

I guess that slippery slope is OK?

I won't play EA games even if they were given me for free but more options is always better

So dunno why Sony is blocking EA access. But I guess nobody cares enough for it to even be an issue. If FN shitstorm can't change Sonys BS stance I don't now what can

Well thats more a problem for Sony and how their lack of foresight on certain issues makes their platform less apealing.

Its not EAs fault Sony doesn't want to put any effort in BC. No excuses for lack of PS1 or PS2 BC.
I agree. Lack of BC on PlayStation is crap, and totally inexcusable that there is no PS1 support at all. There are PS2 Classics, but that program is a joke.

This. They dont care "for the players" as long they remain on top. Simple as that!

Seems as we have seen throughout gaming history from a consumer perspective it's better to stick with the 2nd place console as the company behind it still seems motivated to actually listen to it's customers and give them choices. The whole "if you aint first your last" mentality is pretty ridiculous in this regard, woo hoo people get to crow about first place sales on forums while IRL that first place company restricts your options and isolates you in their eco system. This is not a good trade off if you are an actual consumer, to some though the Forum warrior mentality seems to be a big part of their "gaming" hobby.

I just see it as a way to use a back catalogue to suck oxygen out of the atmosphere for other titles, whether Indie or not. I much prefer being able to choose which games I want to play, not somehow feeling obliged to play then because I'm paying a monthly fee for access. How much of my small allotment of time for playing games should I give up to play EA titles? Quite frankly, I'd rather be playing something else.

You could argue that PS+ does the same but it's like a smaller sliding window of titles, and offers games from a wide range of publishers as well as giving exposure to lots of great indie games.

I can why EA may not want to be part of that, too much of a level playing field, and I can see why Sony wouldn't want to open the floodgates to a load of publisher orientated subscription services. It's not that far off allowing third party stores on your console, which is fine for video services, but not necessarily for the thing which funds your entire business model. I see it as similar to the recent cross buy thing, whether you risk giving a competitor the chance to sell things for your console while cutting you out of all the income. Even if you have the chance to be the one pulling in all that income due to your current dominant position, things can easily change.

I checked EA Access on my One X and find it not worth it, not even for the Price they where asking. Maybe at fall if I decide to purchase Anthem o BFV day 1, which I don't think I will.,,,

They have Origin Access Premier for that (they even give the best version) which for me sounds like a better value. That's unfortunately not announced for consoles (at least not yet).

Well I only talk for myself, I'm not a representative of gamers on a worldwide scale.

So, better keep it away from PS4 as far as I'm concerned.
What are you gaining by keeping the service away tho? I can understand saying that you don't care if it comes or not but to say you don't want it to be on ps4 makes me feel like there's some disadvantages if it comes?

Great for you, but what does that do with Sony not even giving its users a choice to decide for themselves? Given Sony's actions this gen they may eventually decide to not give you a choice for something you actually do care about.

Easy, Ι think it's a bad service so the less success it has the bigger the chances it will be discontinued eventually

So because you personally don't see the value in EA Access your glad Sony is keeping other PS4 users from even getting the option to decide for themselves? What crazy mentality is this?

It's been 4 years, physical games aren't and haven't gone away, EA is expanding the service on PC other platform holders are trying out other Subscription services that are even better deals for gamers, Seems like the only thing Sony's decision to deny EA Access on the PS4 has done is give their own users less options,

The PS Store so often has EA games for sale that this service would be of little use to me.

Can we take a step back? Your original objection seemed to be that you don't like EA's games, or at least their micro transaction-based business models.

EA's glorified online casinos is not of my interest.

Keep their service away from PS4

Keeping their sub service off PlayStation doesn't actually keep their games off the platform. I can still gamble my paycheck on FIFA Ultimate Team on PS4 just the same as I can on Xbox.

While I don't personally care at all, and wouldn't sign up for that service, it does suck that they aren't giving their player base the option at all.

So because you think it's bad, but don't even use it and aren't forced to use it, you want it to be discontinued even though there are lots of people that choose to use it and really like it.

Jesus.

due to the number of games that come out on PS4/X I've not bought an EA game since I joined Access, so the £20 a year is a bargain for me and that includes me having no interest in sports games.

also, the games being added in September just add to that bargain.

Xbox
Burnout Paradise Remastered
Fe
The Sims 4

Xbox 360
Dante's Inferno

as regards Sony and this feature, not having BC would remove from its value on that system.

So silly. You can obviously still buy games just like how Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime being popular doesn't prevent you from buying blue rays. In fact a lot of Netflix original shows end up on blu ray.

Such silly paranoia by some

This point was made before and it was wrong then. Those services actually do impact what you can buy. Because of those services being popular, a lot of stuff is not being released on disc anymore. The variety and selection of releases have been reduced because people opt for steaming so yes those services do impact one's ability to buy content on disc.

Say that to Gamestop and every other retail chain creating gamer deals to stay a float.

EA could work with Sony to include it with a PS+ sub and give EA a piece every time someone enrolls. But of course that would never happen. It's like Disney leaving Netflix to create their own streaming service. Now we'll have to pay double the price to get something we essentially we had at much a much cheaper price. Obviously EA will never ditch the platform but they can definitely prevent their titles from showing up on other services just to focus on theirs.

Since we're all about choices. Why can't we get EA access on steam?

GameStop is an incredibly poorly run business and is falling apart because of that.

It's pretty clear that Sony doesn't want a competing subscription service on their platform, and it wouldn't affect PS+ in any substantial way either.
Your final point is absurd because it's already available on PC.

I mean, I don't really like the precedent it creates, and the idea that every publisher could run competing services like this. There's really no data on it, but I do wonder how many dollars/games EA Access users spend compared to non-EA Access customers.

I think this is just a bridge you have to cross when you get there. Further, the potential extinction of physical discs hardly hinges completely on subscription services -- though subscription services could speed up physical's decline. But I mean even without services like this digital sales are on an upward trend in terms of how people are buying games.

I'd rather not support EA Access, the more popularity it gains the more likely EA will only release their games via the service. Once they do that others will do the same, then you'll have to subscribe to multiple services.

No thanks.

I don't think this is as much of an issue as blocking crossplay/progression or lacking BC support but to see so many say the option shouldn't exist because it doesn't appeal to them is just...weird. I'm not interested in the service but it's nice to know the option is there if I ever want to sign up.

That doesn't take away the point digital sales are on the rise. Publishers love the idea of these subscriptions to lock into steady revenue without the worry of used games market, piracy, etc. A big reason why a lot of people are hesitant to go digital in the first place.

And how is it absurd? Steam is the biggest gaming platform on PC. People should have the choice to buy/play through Steam, no?

PC as a platform isn't Steam. So they do have a choice by downloading Origin.

Here's my problem, I sub on Xbox, but, it's a terrible deal, it's a terrible system. The quality of EA games has nose dived since EA Access.
They ruined Battlefront, they put loot boxes and grinding in Need For Speed, Garden Warfare has been a farce, Ultimate team, I could go on.
Now the fact the quality has went downhill also effects people who don't sub.
Here's my biggest problem though, with it being only on Xbox, and with Gamepass this whole debate has been weaponised.
Don't like it, you're a fanboy.
As a whole, from my perspective as someone who plays a lot of games on a lot of systems this is a bad service, and after the blowback against lootboxes they had to change the whole system for the PC.

Not personally liking it shouldn't mean you wish others don't even have the option to find out for themselves. If EVERYONE thought it was a bad deal the program would fail or EA would find the need to improve it. These things only get adopted and spread if consumers actually find value in them and start using it and buying it and if that is the case obviously some people find it valuable to them. Wanting the option snuffed for others is pretty selfish, let these program live or die based on what consumers actually to with their wallets. When a platform holder just flat out denies the option they are not letting their own customers decide it's fate.

Like I said you want to talk about slippery slopes? When platform holder feel they have such a huge Market share they can deny their own customers options this slippery slope is happening right now with Sony on multiple angles.

Wtf are you talking about!? Or better yet, to whom!?
That shit is not hidden from anyone. You sound like you're trying to get a check cut for yourself. PlayStation doesn't offer it. So fucking what? It's a shit service with dead ass games on it and discounts on future game you probably not gonna want, hence you signing up for it meant you weren't interested in the portfolio to begin with.

And before you even try it, I get you're trying to say be "pro choice " and what not.. but you trying shit on anybody with differing opinions needs to stop. These preemptive blanket statements on how anyone who thinks differently is crap. People are selfish cause they don't see value in EAA, lol? Some people with Xbox's even say it's crap. Come in say your peace and leave or argue why you think it would be good for every system. Why not PlayStation, Switch and mobile if you cared about this so much?

Same fucking crowd from the Fortnite scandal, fighting to find a new one. Which tells me this is disingenuous at best.

So it's cool for EA to neglect Steam to promote their own agenda, but when Sony does it, it's anti consumer? Sony doesn't have to buckle down to help EA make more money. You say it wouldn't hurt PS+ but how would this not hurt PSN Store sales? It's been a monster for them this gen: https://www.resetera.com/threads/gr...this-generation-an-8-4-billion-segment.20670/

If the console space was open like PC there's no doubt in my mind we would have dozens of stores/services making everything a cluster fuck.

This is honestly a baffling response. I think what some -- myself included -- are having difficulty understanding is not that some people don't want to subscribe. There's many valid reasons that range from "I don't really like EA games a lot" to "I prefer owning games outright to digital rentals" that would make this a completely uninteresting prospect for a great number of people. But it's one thing to say "I don't want this product" and another thing entirely to maintain "not only do I not want this, but its mere existence offends me so deeply that I don't think it should be offered at all."

I'm really conflicted about Steam. On the one hand I feel like it's established itself as the de facto PC platform and just for convenience sake I wish everything was offered on Steam so I don't have to maintain a dozen different logins to play all my games on PC. On the other I feel like Valve is kind of a garbage company these days that doesn't deserve this status and I can no longer honestly fault other challengers pushing their own services.

Moving on, I don't really understand how these services would hurt PSN Store sales. I assume Sony would get a cut of sub money right? And if you mean "people will buy fewer EA games if they're getting so many for 'free' thanks to an Access sub" this would also be a problem for EA. Given EA's ability to generate revenue I really don't think that this is just some bonehead gaffe on their part where they are clearly leaving money on the table.

Wow, some......passionate responses here.

IMO it's not rocket science. Regardless of platform, less options = bad for consumers.

It doesn't matter if an individual wants to subscribe or not. It matters that the person has a choice.

I feel like you don't understand the argument. The entire point of PC as a platform is the open nature of it. It's why so many hate the idea of there being a defacto "Microsoft Store" with Windows 10. Steam, BattleNet, uPlay, Origin, Epic, all are their own separate platforms. One does not prevent the other from working or from being available. The biggest PC games aren't even on Steam (Fortnite, LoL, WoW, Overwatch).

Where people take offense is that the only thing preventing EA Access from being on PS4 (it has the backlog of games, etc) is SONY themselves. EA obviously would love the extra money and sales so they aren't shutting themselves down. I also don't give a shit if it does or doesn't hurt PSN sales, that's not my problem, nor is it yours.

I'm OK with PS+ would never subscribe to anything from EA. If EA want to bring their games on PS+ i'll of course take a look
