My friends do the same shit and I get so tight because it's extremely sexist. There's no rationale behind it, just a straight assumption that the person in front of them is driving slow, OH IT MUST BE A WOMAN. Fucking disgusting.

But as they laugh and cackle at trying to be right in the argument....I always hit them with the fact that I'm paying the less insurance than them and have the better car, while their asses can't afford it because they've been in too many accidents lol. Shuts that shit up right there.

If so many people are enraged to the point of acting out like you said, your wife could just be a bad driver.

Simple enough question and I do appreciate this probably isn't limited to just men, but I've just been out with the wife for a drive and I was shocked by how many men thought it was okay to beep at her over the tiniest little things.

Took a microesecond too long to get going after a light turns green? BEEEEEP. One cunt called her a bitch, another told her to stay at home.
Didn't take a turn fast enough for the person behind so is speeding and has to hit their brakes and skid? BEEEEEP
One motherfucker while we stuck in traffic made a blowjob gesture at her.

What the fuck is this shit? I don't drive much, but when I do I rarely have to deal with this shit. What suddenly makes it okay when it's a woman driving?
...all of this happened during one drive?

I assume every twat on the road is a bloke because most of the time it is men who are causing the problems.
The men who like making the "jokes" are just being old school as fuck and in the worst way. Also incredibly insecure and probably asked for Last Jedi to be redone because women cannot have rights, dammit!
I'd tell your wife not to worry about them. They're not worth her anger.

Have you been to South Florida? I can give you license plates and details on cars that will : go if the light is red, won't make a full stop or any at a stop sign, make U-turns if the coast is clear , etc. It's always the same people on the same roads. Been seen them for 3 years on my way to work. They are all women. Yes, men are reckless but a lot women here give a crazy competition. Anyone remembers that family guy clip with the Asian lady turning without a light signal? Picture that.
Thank you for the solid data

Men are way worse in my experience. Careless and obsessed with speed.

Some women might be less comfortable behind the wheel, and therefore a bit clumsy, and they have become the cliché, unfortunately. All the women I know drive perfectly well (they tend to be way more careful), but when it comes to the men I know, it's honestly 50/50.

It always make me think of that Jimmy Carr joke:

"Did you know 95% of car accidents are caused by men? Do you know what that means? .... That 5% are made by BLOODY. WOMEN. DRIVERS."

Yeah... Men are worse behind the wheel.

They want to act the same way towards other male drivers but figure a woman driver isn't going to pull out a gun or drag them out of their car and beat them senseless so they stick to harassing women like cowards.

On the flip side I've never encountered anywhere close to as many incidents as you describe while driving with my wife, sisters, mother or any other female so I have to wonder if your wife is also a terrible driver.

I had a man beep at me for not moving off the instant the light turned green.

I flipped him off then drove off. He started driving right under my car very aggressively looking to overtake but I kept on increasing my speed to make it difficult for him. He eventually managed to overtake me, very dangerously but oh well.

When someone is a jackass to me on the road, I give it right back to them. Half the time its a case of they can give but not take.

Women drive worse generally but that doesn't mean there aren't shit and stupid male drivers. Yeah men cause deadly incidents but that doesn't mean they are less skilled in terms of car control and parking. Strange behaviours are usually related to an old men/women driving or to a young/middle aged women who doesn't give a shit about the others on the road, in my experience. In your case, you probably encountered douchebags who don't have patience.

always tickles me when a thread like this started using a word that a lot of sexist men employ to talk about women.

i get it i get it, it doesn't mean the same to you.

just like the streamer who who used the f word to get himself through tough times.

My guess is they would probably want to be crude and aggressive with male drivers but are afraid they would get their asses kicked. It is much safer, in their pathetic minds, to take their insecurity and aggression out on people they are confident they can intimidate.

This is definitely a fair argument. I get that the word is acceptable some places, but is the root of the word really not the same as it is in North America? I am sure racial and homophobic slurs are acceptable someplace, but that doesn't excuse anything.

I was with a friend a couple of days ago and she was driving her father's car, which is stick. so she wasn't driving as fast and took her time braking and speeding back up during traffic, the car even turned off once, but luckily no one was an asshole to her during that time. I've seen people be really stupid to other women drivers though, there's even a phrase in Spanish that rhymes, which is "Mujer al volante, peligro constante" (woman at the wheel, constant peril), but some people just take it too far.

it's everyone, not just men as mentioned in the original post, welcome to the world of driving

thread is just being used as a way to say 'cunt' in the title, no need for it

Your argument is ridiculous and sexist. Every demographic has bad drivers, so stop blaming everything on the demographic that you don't belong to.

I feel like this is a matter of a subset of men being wildly unstable. I wish there were evaluations and stricter rules about this sort of thing, because people only act this way because they feel like they can get away with it. And some of them are packing heat, on top of being willing to run you off the road.

"If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the *bad driver*."

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Even if you drive perfectly, it isn't unusual to get honked at for doing minor things like making a full stop at a 4 way. People are also in terrible moods in the morning, so that's when I'm inclined to be the most forgiving of bad driving.

My guess is this behavior emerges from a deep and abiding respect for women, and sincere concern that they travel as safely as possible.

Men are complete assholes when they drive. It's insane how often people drive recklessly, only to end up sitting next to me at the next red light. Did that 0.3 seconds you saved back there do you any good?

I really hope I will live to see the day where this is no longer possible to do.

Good job escalating the situation to make it even more dangerous to you and everyone around you for the sake of your ego.

I love arguments based on one's personal experience as much as the next guy. But here's an article about a study of driving habits:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/men-vs-women-who-are-safer-drivers/
While googling a bit I found this one to be quite interesting.

Researchers who studied thousands of traffic accidents over a 20-year period came up with a finding that even they found surprising: Female drivers are far more likely to run into a car driven by another woman than a man.

Crashes involving two female drivers were "overrepresented" in five out of six different crash scenarios: Variations on crossing another vehicle's path, side-swiping, turning in front of another vehicle, and head on. But here's the baffling part - when both vehicles were driven by a female, the crashes exceeded the expected frequency by at least 50 percent in two scenarios, and more than 25 percent in three others.

The percentage of accidents in which a woman sideswipes another female driver to her left came in at a whopping 52 percent compared to the expected frequency of 15.8 percent. In the same type of accident involving two male drivers, the percentage was 22 percent below the expected level of 36.2 percent.

Similarly, if a female crossed the path of an approaching vehicle driven by another woman, the number of accidents was 50 percent above the expected level of 17 percent.

The percentage of accidents involving one male and one female driver were close to the expected level for all six scenarios.

In a nutshell, what that says is a woman is far more likely to crash into another woman than a man, but a man is less likely than expected to crash into another man.

What the research doesn't explain is why that should be the case. Sivak said in a telephone interview that the study clearly shows there is a gender interaction component in traffic accidents, but he doesn't know why female drivers are so "overrepresented" in accidents involving two women. The study begs for clarification, but he said it may not be possible to answer the question of why.
https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/battle-sexes-men-drivers-women-dyehard-science/story?id=13841063

This doesn't mean that women are worse drivers but it is a quite surprising statistic.
Wonder if there was a follow up study that dives more into possible reasons.

*Shrugs*

I'm not the one who started it, he overtook in a situation that was dangerous for him personally, the road was almost empty as this was very early in the morning.

Point of the story is, this isn't a male to female driver thing. Drivers are awful to each other regardless of their gender.

EDIT:

That isn't to say that women don't experience sexist taunts and abuse while driving. To me that is different from the usual aggro you get on the road.

To be honest you can leave 'drivers' out of the thread title. Some are just sexist arseholes full stop.

My mom in her old age has calm down, but when she was younger she would road rage, one time this dude called her a cunt and drove off, she chased him for 20 blocks cursing him at every stop light, dude apologized hahahahahahaha...

LOL! Now that's pretty funny.

About this thread though... yep, it's as I've always said... men are insecure control freaks. Sorry your wife had to deal with this and you had to witness it, I'm sure you tried to lighten and cheer her up later in the day. Just make sure that when you have sons, raise them well, okay? Then maybe this could stop.

It's interesting how people lose their civility so easily while driving. Is it because they normally don't have to face the consequences of their actions while on the road?

Sounds like your wife is a bad driver.

While this is potentially the issue, its more likely that people are bein sexist. Road rage makes people crazy.

One theory i have heard is that because things happen fast on the road, it makes people anxious and frustrated. Our brain wasnt built for interstates and populated intersections lol

I have never experienced any of that. Where are you, OP?

The gestures are definitely out of the line, but did the honking happen before or after they could see her?

God, this thread and some of the responses.
Op, I have also been harassed while driving, mostly from men. Not as much as your wife, but I dont drive very much. There's definitely men out there who see a female driver and see us as an easy target that won't fight back.
