We recently learned that Logan director James Mangold was going to helm a Boba Fett film. It was never officially announced but it came from credible enough sources for us to believe it was true.

With that said, someone told him on Twitter how a Boba Fett movie is a bad idea and he stated he isn't making one.

It's entirely possible he just meant at this very moment or he's still in talks as he followed up to someone else with this.

Thoughts?

He was the only way I care about a Boba Fett film.
But they should just merge this with the mos eisley film concept and make it a Star Wars western about Bounty Hunters and the criminal underworld, but it needs to feature Cad Bane.

I'm more interested in him doing a Star Wars film in general than a Boba Fett movie. I'd be pretty excited if he was doing the second one in Rian Johnson's trilogy.

Nothing is probably official but in talks.

Also no movies are cancelled. There was an article stating the LF is going to take a closer look at stuff though

He shouldn't waste his talents on a popcorn flick series that has awful fans.

Agreed.

X-Men fans are hardly as toxic and appreciated Logan a great deal.

Mangold deserves better than some horseshit "low risk, high profit" concept in the vein of 'Solo'.

I'm more interested in him doing a Star Wars film in general than a Boba Fett movie.

I would take this too...but Fett would be a waste of his talents. Logan was nuanced and became that over the series of films.

Fett is...yeah.

I'd kill for a Star Wars western and Boba Fett is the perfect place to start with that. 3:10 To Yuma is one of my favorite westerns and he directed it, I wish so desperately for him to bring that style and feel to Star Wars.

I keep saying, don't do Boba: A Star Wars Story, that's shit. Make a bounty hunter movie that has Fett show up in it, I guarantee butts will be in seats.

I'm all for Mangold making whatever he wants. Lucasfilm is probably anxious after the behind-the-scenes of their spin-off movies have been so damn rocky. Not to mention realizing Colin Trevorrow is a hack whose Jurassic Park films were successful in-spite of him and not because of him.

I really hope that particular spin off is dead. I'm alright with Obi-Wan, but if you really want to do spin off films, there's that big 30 year gap between Jedi and TFA where you could do ORIGINAL films. Even if you were to borrow from someone else's idea, the Thrawn trilogy sounds infinitely more interesting than Boba Fett.

Mangold is too good for that loser of a character. Leave him in the dust bin where he belongs.

Boba Fett as a character has already been kind of been raped to death by lazy idiots that want to make their mark.

E - omg let me be clear, this didn't mean to be aspersion on Mangold.

Logan is the Greatest Comic Book Movie of all time.

I still wonder why people want a Boba Fett movie. But hey if Mangold does amazingly get the ok for the movie then good for him!

Hey give the sarlac pit a little respect!

A Boba Fett movie was always a bad idea, there's just not enough there.

Pretty much. The character was basically just a cool mask who died in a comic relief joke moment. He was never important and he doesn't deserve his own movie.

What's next, Greedo: A Star Wars Story? Max Reebo: Origins?

Boba Fett isn't an anti-hero, he's just a dick. They could make an interesting film about him but it would have to focus on someone who is unlikable and there is no way they'd do that. Ventress would be a much better subject for a movie but nobody knows who she is so that won't happen either.

Can't he just direct a SW movie about an original character in the bounty hunting/smuggling business? Why does it need to be about Fett?

I think it would be cool if he ended up directing one of the movies in Johnsons trilogy instead, maybe also contribute to the script too

Dont care for the idea of these spinoffs based on one character anyways

Let me guess, they chose him (originally, or never), because they thought they need to make Bobba Fett a likeable tough guy. His mission is to kill some bad guy, it's supposed to be a secret mission, but then he finds out the bad guy has a kid after killing said bad guy, but he wasn't paid to kill the kid but the kid saw him kill his dad so he knows about the plan so he takes him captive, but then ends up liking him, and ends up protecting him from other bounty hunters sent to kill the kid AND Bobba Fett. Then at the end the Bobba Fett dies and the kid take his armor and becomes Bubba Feet.

What would work better imo would be a Bounty Hunter movie; give me some IG-88, Bosk, Boba Fett and yes even Greedo on separate bounties that all lead to a single target. Having a movie hinged all on Boba as the focus would be silly, we already know his terrible origin so I don't know what a movie focused on him would even be about.

I've started to think that a boba fett film with a good team behind it could actually turn him into a good character, you can only go up with something like this.

Good. I don't want a movie on a complete non-character who's popularity is based on how he looks.

I think a lot of these proposed standalone movies would work better as limited run Netflix series or one-off movies on a streaming service. The problem is that LFL made a strategic decision to link all the various media properties together as canon, so they can't do weird experimental stuff or "What if" stories, because it's all tied together.

Or do what the old EU did and come up with original characters or stories within the universe. If the old regime could make an I, Jedi or Rogue Squadron series, surely the new guys can come up with some original content.

They should do a movie about a bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe. That would be awesome. Just don't use Boba Fett. He has cool armour and a cool ship. He isn't a required character.
