Who knew T-shirts sizes could be so confusing. I just looked at Fangamer's page again, the measurements on their sizing guide don't follow the standard "measure around" so you know whether a human will fit inside. They literally are measuring the outside of the shirts flat. Just follow someone else's sizes for Unisex shirts if confused. Here's ThinkGeek's page on Unisex sizes: https://www.thinkgeek.com/help/sizing-info.shtml#unisex

I don't want to give anyone bad advice by pointing you somewhere else, but their sizes are basically normal T-Shirt sizes (at least for US shirts) so you should be fine ordering whatever size you're wearing now. If still in doubt, contact Fangamer and let them know they're confusing people by assuming people are 2D sprites instead of 3D objects.

For some people, T-Shirt size is a personal preference rather than what your actual measurements are. Based on actual measurements I should be buying M shirts but I've always bought L because I like the looser fit.
I used the guide. Thanks.

Question on the tiers. I have a $100 pledge, and I indicated a physical copy. Is the digital "trial" PC copy basically a beta or does anyone know if it will come with a Steam key as well? If not I am thinking of putting down another $29 for a digital PC version.

The trial is just a demo which i assume will come before the game is released. If you chose PC physical i dont think we know if that includes a steam key or not. I may be wrong so someone correct me if i am.

I'm both a KS backer and a slacker backer, and I still haven't received any email, should I start to worry?

I did check my spam folder, yes.

Completed the survey for both my signed physical PS4 copy and my digital copy (I made a second pledge just in case they're late shipping physical copies).

I thought last years' teaser trailer was cool, but this little snippet using real in-game assets has me even more excited because it looks and feels like the actual game. I would be happy if the animation was indicative of an average NPC in the game. It's no different than dozens of other mid-tier games I've played. I wouldn't call it bad at all.

How can I even choose which version I want right now? When we don't even know how it will run on PC and/or PS4.......

the animations are
latest
90's tier bad. But hey, they don't represent the "final game quality & efforts" of a years and years long production, always the same excuse. sigh.
The animation looks pretty stiff, but I think you're being hyperbolic & disingenuous about how bad it looks. I've played through a few recent AAA games and I don't think this looks SIGNIFICANTLY worse. I think people are holding Shenmue to a different standard because it's a Kickstarter and we're supposed to laugh at Kickstartered games now, and I think that sucks.

If you want to hedge your bets, get it on PC. Minimum specs are very modest.

Well other than that 100GB installation, sure. :P

Got my survey finally. Getting the physical Steam edition. I'm kinda happy that they let you go back and edit the survey so you can add more stuff at a later date. I got the soundtrack with mine. May even double dip and get a physical PS4 game as well.

A tongue in cheek comment I'm sure, but I wouldn't read into it either way. I'd bet on storage space being the requirement most likely to change from the tentative minimum specs list. 100GB just seems like a safe ceiling that it probably won't exceed.

The fact the media has picked up on this 100GB thing as actual news is... well. There's been some fucking stupid writing about Shenmue III since the game was announced but this latest manufactured controversy is really the worst of it all so far.

Yes, definitely tongue-in-cheek. I'm not sure why 100GB is a big deal nowadays. Most people use bigger hard drives (2-4TB). 100GB won't make a dent in most people's gaming rigs today. I mean, granted, it is a lot of space if you're running one SSD at 256GB, but I'd say the majority of most players are running a proprietary HDD for games.

Apparently I failed to notice that the two tiers I picked came with a t-shirt, because I've filled in three t-shirt surveys. Oh well.
#Shenmue three-shirts.

So i was thinking, with regards to the name in credits and on website. They must be 25 character limit but what are the optional lines for? Will they input both or just the one?

Just one. It's to account for limitations and consistency. I don't have it up anymore but I recall the survey giving a specific example where they didn't want you to use special characters in one of the three fields, just in case your name is normally spelled in a logographic language (Chinese, Japanese, etc.) and they decide to use a font for the credits that doesn't have all of the characters needed for that name, or maybe they decide to do latin characters only, or only display Japanese names if your language is set to Japanese, etc. The other is formatting, if a bunch of people are just doing first name last name and you include a version with a middle name, perhaps they'll decide to leave it out to look more consistent with the surround names. In other words, they're just giving themselves more options to try and make things consistent without having to contact people if something is really out there. They're only going to use one from each set.

In my case, I just used my first & last name for the website and credits, but for the guestbook message (one of the higher tiers) I included my middle initial as my preferred option (with same as others as fallback) just because I felt if I was signing something in a book I'd be more likely to include my middle initial. If they don't pick that version, whatever, it's fine with me.

---
On a related note, we got this tidbit of new information today:

They had sort of answered this to people who asked via the Kickstarter, but it's kind of a shame that it's now being confirmed as the case. On one hand, there wasn't too much benefit to transferring between 1 & 2 since the items that transfer over don't affect the game at all, but there were those few items in Shenmue 1 that you could miss like the unreadable scroll, the white leaf, and I think one of the photos, which could have set up some extra story content for people who carried them through from 1 to 3. I guess that means they'll either have to give those items to everyone at the start of 3, introducing the problem of "how did I get these?" for people who never got them before, or they'll just completely get rid of those items and they'll just be unsolved mysteries. Oh well, I guess it can't be helped.

The 100gb controversy is completely insane to me. As someone who has followed game launches on Steam for a good 6 or so years now, I could easily tell you that the VAST majority of games coming out give you an incorrect estimate that is normally far above what the download size turns out being. A good current example is that the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy is currently listed as 30gb on Steam but actually takes up around half that in total.

In any event, with the game being around a year or more away I feel pretty confident in saying they have no clue as to what it will be around and I am not sure why they would even announce a download size yet. In fact, I would not be shocked if the download size is around a quarter of what is currently suggested.

People forget to take into account the uncompressing process.
Steam download a compressed file then uncompress it. So you need more data available on disk at first.

GTA5 says it needs 72GB. Considering they haven't even finished making Shmoo 3, 100GB is definitely an upper limit and games press is just being hyperbolic.

I had a thought that i am unsure of. Do we know if things such as the limited edition will come in a box or will everything just be seperate items? Curious as to how things such as the illustration will be packaged, though probably getting ahead of myself

A slight update, for people wondering if they'll be able to change their address after the Sept 30th deadline. Thanks to Telekill at the Shenmue Dojo for asking this:

Sorry for the confusion on the survey's close; that will close add-ons and changes to your tiers and questions, but it will not remove your ability to change your address. Fangamer will send you an email before we ship (or otherwise would have to lock addresses for some reason).

So you'll be able to change your shipping address right up until a point shortly before the game/rewards are shipped out next year.

Unfortunately, Fangamer is unable to confirm whether or not the physical PC version will come with a Steam key. It seems likely, however, when you consider that the PC requirements state that you'll need Steam.

Fangamer is also unable to confirm if physical PC backers will receive a Steam key ahead of time so they're not stuck waiting for the box to arrive. They suggest contacting Ys Net instead.

Finally preordered this along with 1 & 2

Are there any overviews or collated lists of all the gameplay features that 3 will have and/or 1&2 elements that it will improve upon?

Their sizes are huge too. At least for women's. I measured one of my more loose-fitting shirts and it was smaller than the smallest women's size.

Shenmue Dojo has a thread with a list of the known gameplay details for Shenmue 3:
http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=50041

I'd normally expect Spaghetti to plug something like that, but he's a mod there and I think there's some kind of rule here where people can't promote their own stuff.

Spaghetti yet again sharing valuable info! I don't know where I'll be living in the next 6-12 months so I can't enter the address for sure. Now I know I'll be able to change it later. Thanks to you and Telekill!

I don't care if the game is 500GB, I have plenty of room for it.

I have over 100 games installed on Steam and over 300 installed on my Xbox 1X. I don't get size complaints for only 100GB.

Off to see if I got a survey.

If i go for the Digital version. I won't get the Kickstarter exclusive case, will i ?

In the case, I'd imagine. It says it's a disc copy, but Steam is a digital platform so it's likely a code on a piece of paper and a Steam installer on disc.
now I feel stupid paying $80 using a separate KS account. I can see it now:
The text, Denuvo inside printed on a plain old disc that only comes with a steam installer.

Hopefully my PS4 copy doesn't come with a warning: day one 100GB patch needed.

. . . I read that and interpreted it as having only the DRM and and the Steam installer... and that sounds eerily plausible from at least a bigger publisher.

At one point wasn't Yu Suzuki talking about changing the way combat worked in this?

I want to say it would have button prompts or adapt to the player or something like that.

I havn't gotten round to this because I can't decide on a platform.

How are PC ports of 3D games from small independent Japanese companies? Or maybe I should stick with the PS4 but one day that system will be obsolete whereas PC has the largest backwards compatibility. I need to get the choice right because I backed a version that has exclusive content and features that I might not be able to buy at a later date.
