Fresh foods is something you don't need expiration dates for. We survived thousands of years just by looking at it. If it looked and smelled fine, it's 99% fine.

Because stuff doesn't go bad the minute it goes past the expiration date. I also often eat stuff like a 3 or 4 days after, like a lot of people. No need to throw it away.

It's not even a secret, people from the food industry often say that products are still completely safe a long time after the expiration date.

Those expiration dates are there because some law requires everything to have it.

Nothing but guesses and opinions. Trust your own sense of smell and sight when deciding what to eat.

There 2 different type of expired:
Best-before-day and last-cunsumption-day.

Best-before can be eaten after the "day", last-cunsumption can't be eaten after the "day"

Potatoes don't have an expiration date per se. In the right conditions they can easily be edible for months and months. It needs to be visibly rotten or grow roots but those don't happen on an exact date, highly dependant on how they are storsd. Also, generally don't eat any green parts in potatoes, if they have any.

This really is sad. Did you have no parents who imparted their basic knowledge to you?

I had no idea potatoes had expiration dates on them. I treat them like any produce. If it's good it's good. If not then you can easily tell. I've cut the tendrils off and still used the potatoes because they were firm and free of any sort of rot. You'd know if they were bad.

Trust me you will know if your potatoes have gone bad: they collapse into a black ooze and smell like a decomposing body

You're fine. Expiration dates tend to be conservative and your gut has evolved to cope with worse.

Consider it a good test for your immune system.

Tried to google this but didnt find any good answers lol. So I forgot to read the packaging and apparently they expired 3 days ago. I boiled them I dont know if that helps? What kind of trouble am I in lol.

Lol I've eaten potatoes growing roots...just cut them off and boiled

Unless the potatoes are slimy you are fine

It's a little bit worrying how little peopoe actually know about the food they eat. Expiry days are generally nonsense fpr produce. You can see, taste and smell if fresh food is ok or not. I've seen stores throw out perfectly fresh and crisp lettce because the expiry date was reachez yetthey keep slimy spinach because th date is ok.

No wonder food waste is such a huge issue. People need to start educating themselves.

You'll be fine, people forget that expiration dates are just precautionary, they aren't imperatives. Food doesn't go bad the minute it passes an expiration date, especially vegetables.

you've made a huge mistake. RIP :(

nah you're fine. potato is like my favourite food of all time and i buy so much of it that i can never eat it in time so will often eat potatoes that are past their date. i'm not dead yet.

it's not just potatoes either. the only stuff i bin if it's past the date is meat. that's too risky.
