Forced identity politics killed Ant-Man. Disney needs to fire Kathleen Kennedy or these films will keep bombing.

I really wanne watch The Incredibles 2. I have no idea why it takes over 3 months to release the movie in Germany.

I mean the first Ant-Man didn't set the world on fire, so I'm not sure why people were expecting this one to.

People were expecting an Infinity War boost? Probably hurt it even more, making the average consumer see this as a side story considering the ending of Infinity War.

I remember people thought there wasn't going to be an Ant-Man sequel in Phase 3, and then it made 500 Mil and they somehow made room for one.

Y'all want the bomb to happen so bad. lol

Damn.

Disappointing for Ant Man. But I guess I'm part of the problem. I took the rest of the week off after another great 4th of July, and we've been at the beach one day, and 2 water parks. So no time to go see a movie.

I'm taking the fam on Tuesday

It's up 34% opening weekend from the last one, it did get a boost

Wow, Ant Man opening is disappointing even if it is a bigger debut than prequel. My 250M dream is dead.

It is gonna wind up at 200M to 220M with this OW.

I have to think that Marvel is ok with this, and that they budgeted the movie to take into account that it's not a billion dollar blockbuster. A jump of 34% over the first opening weekend is a great jump.

Feige knows he has to continue to diversify the studio output, with movies at a variety of budgets, with expectations to match. You can't swing for the fences every movie, and you can't make a Moon Knight movie and expect it to make 1 billion dollars. I'd rather see the medium to small budget Moon Knight movie, than have them not bother because it's not a blockbuster.

I don't want Moon Knight to die on TV like Iron Fist. Creatively, that is.

People have been eagerly chomping at the bit hoping for an MCU bomb for years and years now.

Ahhhhhhhh this thread is wonderful, people being ironic about Ant-Man's earnings, people teetering on irony poisoning, people missing the irony, weird-ass comparisons, good shitposts about Star Wars/MCU, and bad shitposts about Star Wars/MCU.
We are just missing some truly ardent fanboyism to make this shitstorm complete.

Comparing it to Ant Man 1 is fair but you should also compare it to the second entries in other super hero movies not their first outing

I don't think it's bad some people were just expecting more

It's a bigger percentage increase than Thor 1 to Thor The Dark World

I mean at the end of the day it's still Ant-Man. It's not going to have same pull as other Marvel franchises and that's fine and Feige and Marvel are aware of it. Hence the not huge budget.

I mean my prediction back when everyone was throwing around 700-800m crazy land that it would open between 72-78m with a global finish between $600-$650. Looks right on track to do that which is plenty successful

I do think A&tW could had done better had it been released in August. IW was such a big event that it probably needed more breathing room from it to build hype for itself. A 34% bump from the first Ant-Man is still very good, and the movie will make bank anyway thanks to its lower budget.

Deadline is saying 600-800 venues next weekend for Sorry to Bother You, so we will know pretty quickly if the wider moviegoing audience wants to see it.

Yeah its not even playing in my area yet, anecdotal but everyone I know can't wait to see it. I think it will do well.

Not bad for antman & wasp, don't think anyone was expecting avengers numbers.

This is almost the opposite of the Solo OW thread.

The movie made money but in this case, people are claiming bomba. Whereas Solo didn't make enough.

Bad Sat and underwhelming OW for Ant-Man and The Wasp...but a 35% increase over the first movie's ow is still a nice bump.

Also...

See, the "double feature" fudge bump. Nice.

Brought it up in the last topic but what double feature? We have 3 semi-local drive-ins and they're all doing either Purge/Jurassic World or Ant-Man/Incredibles.

Annapurna only released Sorry to Bother You in 16 locations this week to build some buzz. You should definitely check it out.
