"My expectation would be that as soon as approval comes through within a few days there will be a revised bid for Sky by Fox," one City source said. "The question is how high. If I'm Fox I'd table £15 a share."

A bid of that level would value Sky at almost £26bn, with Murdoch paying £15.3bn for the 61% he does not already own. The prospect of a bidding war with Comcast has analysts predicting that it could take more than £16 a share to win, valuing Sky at £27.5bn.

Comcast has until the end of this week to formally make its £22bn offer to Sky's shareholders. If the government and then Murdoch move quickly enough this week, Comcast will be forced to rethink its plans.

The battle for Sky is playing out against a much larger fight between Disney and Comcast to take over most of 21st Century Fox, which owns 39% of Sky as well as assets including the Hollywood studio behind films from Deadpool to X-Men.

Last month, Disney, which has offered to buy Sky News from Murdoch to help him secure clearance to buy Sky, upped its offer for Fox to $71.3bn ($38 a share). Earlier in the month, Comcast had trumped Disney's first offer for Fox ($28; $55.4bn) with a $65bn, or $35 a share, bid.

The spiralling price tag on Fox has significant ramifications on the price that will be paid to win the separate battle for Sky.

In April, the UK Takeover Panel ruled that if Disney successfully takes over Fox before Murdoch, Comcast or another bidder has taken full control of Sky then it will be forced to buy out the 61% of the satellite group it does not own.

The panel ruled that Disney would have to buy the stake at £10.75 a share – the now 18-month-old bid price tabled by Murdoch.

This "chain principle" is designed to make sure minority shareholders are treated fairly; in this case to ensure Sky's minority shareholders receive the same amount as 21st Century Fox.

Losing subscribers to the streaming companies suggest so...
Comcast is nowhere near dying. They are massive. They own a major movie studio and tv channels. They do home security. Phones. They dont just do cable tv. They are also the largest provider of broadband internet in the country I believe. You need internet for streaming. Cable has been losing consumers but not at the dire rate you imply.

Thanks to live sports and the like cable will be here for a long time still.

Feige running a company would be an waste of his talents. Feige is these generation's Walt Disney, yes, but I feel like he should be the one pumping up these films, not the one having to deal with M&As and boring stuff like Iger has to.

I love all these films and they are excellent. With that said, LMFAO no, Marvel Studios "cape flicks" (other than Thor literally zero of them wear capes) are the best in the genre.

Cape flick is a widely used term for superhero films buddy...

And movie opinions are subjective. But if you want to talk objectively being "better" - outside of Black Panther and Winter Soldier, no Marvel film has a RT score higher than any of those I listed. IIRC RT did a top 25 or top 50 superhero films ever and it was Spidey 2, WW, and Logan in the top 3. BP eventually took #1 though I believe.

All the best cape flicks are non-Marvel (but I do love a few of the Marvel films):

Wonder Woman
Logan
Deadpool 1/2
Spider-Man 1/2
The only two movies that I could really see making sense for this debate are the first two Nolan Batman movies and neither of them are listed :(

I do like all of those movies you listed but I sort of feel like Wonder Woman and Logan are a touch over rated. Wonder Woman's third act is pretty mediocre.

I loved WW's third act and Logan had a fairly strong one as well. I would put WW on par with TDK and Logan on par with BB. They are definitely up there as well, but I just enjoyed WW and Logan more.

I think I would have loved WW's third act more if...
... Ares wasn't actually the villain of the movie and the ending was just "humans are actually just shit all by themselves". Ares actually showing up at the end was a bad call

See I am a huge WW fan and was literally saying to myself if Ares doesn't show up I'm gonna flip out (in a not good way).

I essentially wanted WW 2009 (animated) but in real life. And I got it. And it was everything I hoped it would be.

The twist with Ares actually got me because I was so focused on being angry cause I thought they were gonna cop out and not use Ares that it shocked me when it happened.

Of all the things this Fox deal could be about, the superhero part is the least interesting. I need to know if Disney gonna keep backing original/R rated/weird movies like The Shape of Water, The Favourite, Bad Times at the El Royale, Widows, And Jojo Rabbit in which Taika Watti plays a boys imaginary friend Adolf Hitler. I'd hate to see these films disappear because they're not four quadrant action blockbusters.

Comcast is making a comeback folks & prepping a new bid.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-fox-m-a-comcast/comcast-lining-up-buyers-for-fox-sports-assets-sources-idUSKBN1JZ23Z?feedType=RSS&feedName=businessNews&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Feed:+reuters/businessNews+(Business+News)

(Reuters) - Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O) is identifying potential buyers for Twenty-First Century Fox Inc's (FOXA.O) regional sports networks in an attempt to ease antitrust concerns about a new bid to acquire most of Fox's assets, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Comcast believes finding such partners will not only allow it to argue that it can win antitrust approval for the Fox assets as easily as Disney, but will also boost its finances as its prepares to make a second all-cash offer later this month, the sources said.

Does Disney just let the vote rock now that they have antitrust approval or do they match this yet again? This reeks of Comcast just driving up the price at this point.

Figures Comcast would try another bid. At this point I can't imagine Disney won't match it. They're already so close.

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Both of their second halves SUCKED. Deadpool 2 was not as good as the first, but DP1 is undoubtedly the best Fox/Marvel film they've made.

Spider Man films are overrated af.

If CMCSA come back then they have managed to convince some or a group of KKR, Providence, TPG and Blackstone to form a consortium.

I really don't want Disney to get Fox. Even now, I watched Ant-Man and the Wasp and all the trailers before the movie were all disney umbrella stuff. Snooooore.

This might seem stupid, but why are Comcast competing and trying to buy Fox at the same time? Could Fox not just say to Comcast that if they pull out of the 21st Century bidding war with Disney they can have free reign on a bid for Sky? Or Comcast say let us have some of your assets and you can have Sky?

Disney not bidding on Sky helps them with the U.S Assets because they can still bid more. FOX still wants Sky, Rupert Murdoch still doesn't wanna commit to Comcast. Disney still has a ton of advantages even if Comcast bid again.

As had been stated, Iger has on the record more than once says searchlight is sticking around. They need that content for Hulu

Because Comcast wants both

Would Disney really be forced to raise their bid if Comcast can't get DOJ approval? I would think that would make any future Comcast offer empty if they couldn't follow through on it.
