Lost Odyssey was such a gem of a game and Blue Dragon was decent as well. Terra Battle 1 was such a good game as well. It's a shame they ruined it with the 2nd.

Lost Odyssey was a real gem and I still think about some of those dream stories. Blue Dragon was fun too, but not as compelling. I'd love to see another effort on par with Lost Odyssey, it would warm my heart to have another full-blown JRPG from Sakaguchi.
The Last Story is a full blown JRPG. I highly recommend it.

Lost Odyssey was a poor man's Shadow Hearts and Last Story was just plain bad. Nothing of value was lost with Mistwalker.

I want a HD re-release of TLS on Switch so bad lol. I really wish The Last Story got to evolve alongside Xenoblade.

Mistwalker needs to make The Last Story 2 and The Last Storyy HD with Nintendo and get out of the shitty oversaturated mobile market.

I should rip The Last Story disc again and replay the game with Dolphin. I remembering enjoying it so much, and that final fight was something!

The gameplay in Blue Dragon is fantastic as long as you bump the difficulty up (which requires a free DLC). The job system, the combat itself, the encounter design, all excellent.

I agree I am just stating that they were both part of the Operation Rainfall stuff back in the day and it was unfortunate it got overshadowed that is all.

Speaking of which, they should make remasters of all of those games. I believe that something like Pandora's Tower would really benefit from better controls (add Disaster: Day of Crisis in that camp as well).

If Lost Odyssey had the Final Fantasy brand on it it would have been huge. Still hoping it gets the 4K treatment from Microsoft.

Lost Odyssey, a game with great characters and memorable events. Felt like a PS1 FF.

2000

The Last Story. Despite the numerous issues I have with it (overly cliche story, waaaaaay too many interruptions to the gameplay), it's a very unique game and I think the combat has numerous brilliant mechanics.

Seriously, I'm so sad that they're stuck in the mobile business now. Why hasn't Nintendo acquired them or something? :(

I miss u Sakaguchi
As far as I'm concerned Lost odyssey is FFXIII.....and xenoblade is FFXII-2/3/4

Stop discrediting my hyperbolic, outright false statement smh

Really tho, I don't think Nintendo consoles have enough big-budget exclusive JRPG's. I don't count Octopath as one either really
Ah yeah, if you mean big budget, sure.
But then again, what is a bit budget JRPG nowadays outside of Final Fantasy? You got quite a bit in the mid-tier category on every platform though.

It still blows my mind that Microsoft gave a digital copy of this game FOR FREE at one point. I agree with your thoughts. For better or for worse, the Final Fantasy branding instantly generates sales. Heck, I'm part of the problem; I really didn't care much for 12 and 13, but I still bought 15 day one. I was cautiously optimistic for 15, but after all of the DLC shenanigans and watching the Kingsglaive movie, I immediately lost all interest.

I'll eventually get around to it as it is still a FF game at the end of the day, but I'd much rather play a game with the old Sakaguchi magic - something that FF12 and FF13 failed miserably to recapture, imho. I'm assuming I'll feel the same about 15, as well, but the ARPG combat at least, had me intrigued initially.

I liked a lot of the ideas in Last Story's battle system. A sequel with more refined combat would be awesome.

Like Blue Dragon, really loved Lost Odyssey (one of my faves), and enjoyed the Last Story. Hope they go back to making those types of RPG's at some point.

Never beat The Last Story but I remember it being kind of neat. Would be nice to see a remastered port. I remember it used motion controls, bu tI think it was just aiming and not super extensive.

True, but as a hybrid it was always going to. The JRPGs that flourished on GBA/DS/3DS/PSP/Vita had to go somewhere.

Although surprisingly enough, a lot of the JRPGs that the Switch is getting aren't really 3DS/Vita style.

Xenoblade 2 is a sequel to Nintendo's premier home console RPG series.
Mario + Rabbids is a SRPG collaboration between Nintendo & Ubisoft.
Octopath Traveler is a throwback JRPG collaboration between Nintendo & Square-Enix.
Lots of indie JRPGs (Cosmic Star Heroine, Battle Chasers, Earthlock) that primarily target PC & home consoles.

It is getting some of the old portable JRPG stuff too (home/portable cross-platform stuff like Disgaea, Atelier, Ys, and The Lost Child) but it already seems clear that the Switch is getting much better JRPG support than Nintendo's systems have in the past.

You have a point with Xenoblade and Mario+Rabbids, otherwise that's all stuff that was getting released on either 3DS or Vita (not that I'm telling you anything you dont already know, considering your own game was on Vita and is now coming to Switch

Nintendo is allergic to RPG's I guess. Aside from Monolithsoft or something ugh idk. Nintendo come on

Of all the current 3 console manufacturers, Nintendo are the only ones actually investing on JRPGs.

Sony's Japan studios prefer to make non Japanese games like Knack instead.

MS at this stage is a lost hope.

As someone who loved Lost Odyssey and The Last Story, would I enjoy Blue Dragon? Tempted to go pick up a used copy tomorrow and start it because of this thread lol

I never bothered with Blue Dragon, but did enjoy Lost Odyssey. Didn't set the world on fire for me, but it was a good RPG I thought. After Lost Odyssey, I stopped paying attention to them since they stopped making stuff for platforms I was interested in.

Lost Odyssey could have really shined had they fully embraced Legend of Dragoon's Additions system, but instead they just kept the Aim Ring super damn simple and thus inconsequential and uninteresting, especially with how long the game was. Still a pretty great game nonetheless with some moderate issues here and there.

I would love for them to get another crack at The Last Story or really any full fledged RPG on the Switch. They have a unique style I really like and tons of talent that feels wasted on mobile.

Blue Dragon's gameplay is pretty good with the DLC higher difficulty option but the story and characters are both pretty putrid. You need to have a *very* high tolerance for wacky anime hijinks (with an obnoxious furry sidekick) and I don't.

The aquire everything meme is getting stale, barring some perfect bottles of lightning like ninja theory or monolith soft, acquisitions is terrible business. You buy a name and in the long run nothing else. Look at retros talent starting armature for a good example.

I've been playing Lost Odyssey, i'm about 10 hours in. I actually like it a fair bit

Is it worth sticking with? Does the combat stay challenging and interesting?

Mannn, The Last Story and Lost Odyssey were sooooo good, at a time when quality console JRPGs were something of a rarity. Such a shame they turned to mobile games after that.

Reading your posts, i´m wondering if MW should give crowdfunding a go.
Well, they will still need to find a developer. And someone to cover the majority of the development costs. If anything, crowdfunding would be used as proof of interest. Maybe they can get Focus or THQ Nordic to pony up some cash in a bid to let them expand their userbase

Forget everything they made other than Lost Odyssey. That game had the recipe of a great JRPG.

The OST is killer too.

After slogging through Lost Odyssey I kinda lost my enthusiasm for their output. Cool premise that ended up feeling pretty universally mediocre to me. Minus the short stories.

Wow. I agree so much OP. Lost Odyssey was such a great game. I still to this day resent the fact there is no second part. I wish Microsoft or Nintendo or anyone really, doesn't have to be exclusive, revive this developer and helps it bring another great JRPG. I would love to see something along the lines of Lost Odyssey. I hope reviewers would stop being so picky and just enjoy gems for what they offer. Lost Odyssey deserved better, and Final Fantasy XIII, I like it a lot, deserved less. Oh well.

Oh man, that reminds me that I never got around to play Last Story... you know, maybe it'll get a Switch re-release...
Who am I kidding, I need to start looking on Ebay for a copy on Wii.

A lot of it was just same old same old JRPG game structure. The 1000 years of dreams were one of the few creative additions, so I can see why you'd think that.

Honestly if the overall story ended up delivering better or if I had better characters then just the main character, I probably would have liked it much more.
