Lost Odyssey was such a gem of a game and Blue Dragon was decent as well. Terra Battle 1 was such a good game as well. It's a shame they ruined it with the 2nd.
The Last Story is a full blown JRPG. I highly recommend it.Lost Odyssey was a real gem and I still think about some of those dream stories. Blue Dragon was fun too, but not as compelling. I'd love to see another effort on par with Lost Odyssey, it would warm my heart to have another full-blown JRPG from Sakaguchi.
Meet me somewhere! >:|Lost Odyssey was a poor man's Shadow Hearts and Last Story was just plain bad. Nothing of value was lost with Mistwalker.
The Last Story is extremely underrated and it got overshadowed by Xenoblade. I really wish Nintendo would re-release it for the Switch.
Would love to try that one. Chances of a re-release on Switch are slim but I'll continue to hope.
It's a fun little game. Easily my favorite of the Mistwalker oeuvre.I should rip The Last Story disc again and replay the game with Dolphin. I remembering enjoying it so much, and that final fight was something!
I agree I am just stating that they were both part of the Operation Rainfall stuff back in the day and it was unfortunate it got overshadowed that is all.

As far as I'm concerned Lost odyssey is FFXIII.....and xenoblade is FFXII-2/3/4
Lost Odyssey, a game with great characters and memorable events. Felt like a PS1 FF.
The Last Story. Despite the numerous issues I have with it (overly cliche story, waaaaaay too many interruptions to the gameplay), it's a very unique game and I think the combat has numerous brilliant mechanics.
Seriously, I'm so sad that they're stuck in the mobile business now. Why hasn't Nintendo acquired them or something? :(
I miss u Sakaguchi
Last story?I greatly miss them too.
The Last Guardian, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon were all big hits among my friends and I.
Ah yeah, if you mean big budget, sure.Stop discrediting my hyperbolic, outright false statement smh
Really tho, I don't think Nintendo consoles have enough big-budget exclusive JRPG's. I don't count Octopath as one either really
It still blows my mind that Microsoft gave a digital copy of this game FOR FREE at one point. I agree with your thoughts. For better or for worse, the Final Fantasy branding instantly generates sales. Heck, I'm part of the problem; I really didn't care much for 12 and 13, but I still bought 15 day one. I was cautiously optimistic for 15, but after all of the DLC shenanigans and watching the Kingsglaive movie, I immediately lost all interest. If Lost Odyssey had the Final Fantasy brand on it it would have been huge. Still hoping it gets the 4K treatment from Microsoft.
Yea me thinks that's why they doubled down with the OT aesthetic. It relied on nostalgia and made sales beyond expectations; i.e. nostalgia can be a great driver for business growth if done right.
While this is true, they've had a lack of RPGs on their home consoles since the N64.

True, but as a hybrid it was always going to. The JRPGs that flourished on GBA/DS/3DS/PSP/Vita had to go somewhere.

You have a point with Xenoblade and Mario+Rabbids, otherwise that's all stuff that was getting released on either 3DS or Vita (not that I'm telling you anything you dont already know, considering your own game was on Vita and is now coming to SwitchAlthough surprisingly enough, a lot of the JRPGs that the Switch is getting aren't really 3DS/Vita style.
Xenoblade 2 is a sequel to Nintendo's premier home console RPG series.
Mario + Rabbids is a SRPG collaboration between Nintendo & Ubisoft.
Octopath Traveler is a throwback JRPG collaboration between Nintendo & Square-Enix.
Lots of indie JRPGs (Cosmic Star Heroine, Battle Chasers, Earthlock) that primarily target PC & home consoles.
It is getting some of the old portable JRPG stuff too (home/portable cross-platform stuff like Disgaea, Atelier, Ys, and The Lost Child) but it already seems clear that the Switch is getting much better JRPG support than Nintendo's systems have in the past.
Nintendo is allergic to RPG's I guess. Aside from Monolithsoft or something ugh idk. Nintendo come on
As someone who loved Lost Odyssey and The Last Story, would I enjoy Blue Dragon? Tempted to go pick up a used copy tomorrow and start it because of this thread lol
The aquire everything meme is getting stale, barring some perfect bottles of lightning like ninja theory or monolith soft, acquisitions is terrible business. You buy a name and in the long run nothing else. Look at retros talent starting armature for a good example.
well, there's Bluepoint. and that studio that did Super Lucky's Tale
Well, they will still need to find a developer. And someone to cover the majority of the development costs. If anything, crowdfunding would be used as proof of interest. Maybe they can get Focus or THQ Nordic to pony up some cash in a bid to let them expand their userbaseReading your posts, i´m wondering if MW should give crowdfunding a go.
A lot of it was just same old same old JRPG game structure. The 1000 years of dreams were one of the few creative additions, so I can see why you'd think that. After slogging through Lost Odyssey I kinda lost my enthusiasm for their output. Cool premise that ended up feeling pretty universally mediocre to me. Minus the short stories.
Honestly if the overall story ended up delivering better or if I had better characters then just the main character, I probably would have liked it much more.A lot of it was just same old same old JRPG game structure. The gameplay in Blue Dragon is fantastic as long as you bump the difficulty up (which requires a free DLC). The job system, the combat itself, the encounter design, all excellent.
