No, most of the characters suck anyway. Stop adding generic enemies like Lakitu and Wiggler and start adding actual characters people want to see like Dixie Kong and the WarioWare cast.

This should honestly be a thing already in every game considering characters are not nearly as much work in Mario Kart as they are in Smash. There should absolutely be no cuts.

I'm with everyone who's saying an "Ultimate" would be tracks returning

Easily a third of the cast of most modern Mario Kart games are forgettable, especially true for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. DK Jr., Diddy Kong deserve to come back more than random enemy or boss from only one game.

No guest characters, it's called Mario Kart, if you want Guest characters use the Diddy Kong Racing IP and have that one be a Smash Nintendo All-Stars in terms of characters and experiment with that one with different modes but leave MK as it is. And since it's called Mario Kart dig deep in all its games for cool characters to come back, have characters from the spin-offs that we love like Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, the Donkey Kong games, Wario Ware etc. Why do we have Pink Gold Peach and baby versions of every character when you have so many original designs that are awesome.

Outside the babies there are no one shot characters in Mario Kart 8. They didn't even bring back Petey Pirannah or Wiggler or whoever.

Honestly I think MK8 Deluxe should've been the All Tracks Edition and MK9 all new content...

Nintendo should just embrace DLC for the next MK. Release a game with 16-32 original race tracks plus 4 original battle mode tracks. Then release Retro DLC packs for everything else.

I think we should accept that Nintendo is never going to add Mario RPG or WarioWare characters to the series. Even for the Donkey Kong series we see Diddy struggling to get in so I give up on seeing Dixie or Cranky anytime soon.

I'm hoping we get some characters from the latest 3D Mario games after getting Rosalina and Honey Queen in the past.

Characters don't matter nearly as much in Mario Kart as they do in Smash. As others have said, a MK game with all the tracks would be the real winner.

I echo the ALL TRACKS idea instead. I want more crazy anti grav tracks too tho. I don't care how just do it, Nintendo.

I like ALL, ALL is good. I could get used to ALL.

All tracks returning would be dope. Don't really care about the character roster in MK.

I really just want mission mode back. Single player in Mario Kart is too luck based to really be fun, but mission mode managed to be a series of fun, gimmicky levels that used the game's mechanics creatively. It's the only time I've ever enjoyed single player Mario Kart.

Some kind of Single Player mode of any kind would be appreciated first. It ain't gonna be ultimate if Mission Mode doesn't return at a bare minimum.

If by "Ultimate"

you mean "We're going back to Double Dash"

then sure, why not. Mario Kart hasn't been fun since

Needless to say I'm disappointed

If all the tracks were remade and we get a proper battle mode with every multiplayer map, then yes. I also wouldn't mind to see some additional multiplayer modes and even single-player modes too.

MK8 had a bit of roster bloat so I don't think every character needs to come back.

Considering there are no gameplay differences between characters beyond general archtypes like weight class, there's no reason for this not to be a thing.
I mean, aside from unique models, animations, and voicework...

Mario Kart does tend to make some pretty questionable choices with their rosters, though. Like Waluigi being excluded from MK7, Bowser Jr. being excluded from MK8, and Diddy not even making it into MK8D.

Honestly I just want a Mario Kart where I can adjust every option and detail ala Smash. Battle mode where I can choose stock like old school battle mode and options to choose items and frequency of items would be amazing.

I'm always shocked more people didn't complain about not having a stock mode in MK8D battle.

I'd be totally fine with an Ultimate DLC for MK8D that brought back all tracks. That would hold me over to next gen tbh.

All tracks in a $60 product is a fucking insane pipe dream request, modeling/remodeling each track is a ton of work.

More realistic to lobby for a more sustained and robust stream of DLC track packs for future Mario Karts.

I'd rather Mario Kart get the Splatoon treatment than Smash Bros, that is, I want a huge add-on expansion. Multiple new cups, multiple new racers, maybe a new mode (team racing anyone? Or a single player sto). There are already tons of legacy tracks in there; I'd rather see something new than the legacy tracks that weren't good enough to return the first time.

ew, so many people wanting the worst MK to make a comeback. no thanks.

i'd prefer if MK9 was all new stuff. retro tracks are a good way to bring back old stuff as DLC and in 8 they showed some tracks could justify a second reappearance if they get a big enough upgrade.

plus, i'd like to see tracks made for 200cc. let's not forget 200cc was introduced almost 1 year after MK8 released.

Absolutely and I think this is the only logical step for the next stand alone Mario kart: all characters, all tracks

Then just go GaaS and give me a new track pack every quarter.

OR super Mario kart maker.

Prof. E Gadd never making it into Mario Kart is a crime.

And where did Toadsworth go?

They should make DLC for Mario Kart 8.

Call the DLC "Ultimate" which gives you another 8 cups giving you a extra 32 tracks, more characters and all the battle stages from previous Mario Kart games.

The DLC can be more like a expansion costing around $35

I would like a "everything is back" content update to at least bring it on par with Mario Kart DS's single player stuff.
Would've liked it much more if they just gave me that the first time instead of the third.
The only way I'm buying MK at this stage is if it becomes Smash Kart and I see some metroid and kid icarus tracks.

I would only be interested if they bring back the Double Dash mechanic otherwise I rather have all the tracks back instead of all characters.

I was just thinking about something similar. I couldn't decide if I'd rather have:

1. A typical sequel. 4 new cups and 4 retro cups. Some new mechanic other than anti-gravity to differentiate.
2. A game in the style of Smash Ultimate. All characters, and a huge number of retro tracks remade, with maybe a few new racers and tracks. I think it would be too big as DLC for Mario Kart 8. Could play it safe and just be a pure kart racer, or reuse the two person karts from Double Dash, or use the anti-gravity designs from Mario Kart 8. Either way, I wouldn't mind the art style staying the same. I love the way Mario Kart 8 looks.
3. Nintendo Kart. A spinoff that runs with the ideas from the Animal Crossing/Excitebike/F-Zero/Zelda tracks. Could be the opportunity to really experiment with the "Kart" formula further to differ from Mario Kart games. Mario characters would be included but the focus would be on a better balance of characters from all franchises instead. Would certainly help with complaints towards too many baby/metal/other variants of existing characters.

I love this series, but to be honest, I don't care about most of the characters in Mario Kart. They're generic and functionally identical. Bringing back Paratroopa as an alternative to Koopa would have no impact on me. The babies are terrible additions and don't get me started on Pink Gold Peach and Gold Mario.

Now, it would be a bit more interesting if they added characters with a backstory like E. Gadd, Kamek (thinking about the one originally from Yoshi's Island rather than the generic Magikoopa species), Pauline, and - surely a pipe dream - characters from the RPGs. Screw the generic Paratroopa, give me Parakarry. Geno, Lady Bow, Fawful, Cackletta.

All tracks, and retro versions of tracks and I'm in. Don't care about if all characters make it back.
