Well I hope the AL doesn't hit any flyballs the first few innings. Not much defensive range out there.

Yep. Him (best ERA in the AL) and Charlie Morton are better than at least 5 of those pitchers on that squad. O f course I may be a bit biased towards Morton, but I also don't believe Springer deserved a spot.

MLB really needs to drop the participation trophy bullshit where every team is required to have 1 All Star (you can make an exception for the host city)

I kind of would rather they go in the opposite direction and just make it as fun for the fans as possible. Would also require fans/teams/front offices to stop putting so much emphasis on "all star appearances" when it comes to stuff like contract negotiations and hall of fame voting though.

I dunno, I'd rather just see all the best players in the All Star game doing best player things as opposed to gimmicky stuff. Of course, I would also like to see MLB actually market their best players so that there is an audience for that.

Yep. It's a meaningless game designed to drum up fan interest in the summer. Not having a player from every team kills that market's interest in the game.

No one's going to not watch the game because Blake freaking Snell ain't there. But Toronto as a market would likely not tune in at all if no Jays were present.

They should go ham with the fan service. Have an old timers all star game during the week with the softball game and the hr derby... go nuts with it.

The All Star break needs more skill challenges. Maybe a Outfield throwing competition or a hitting competition where you try to hit it to certain parts of the field. So much more can be done with the All Star week but they only do the HR Derby.
It's the year of our lord 2018 and Matt Kemp is a starting all star outfielder.
And in a Outfield of Matt Kemp, Nick Markakis and Bryce Harper. Harper is playing the worst of the 3.
