Keep close so he won't throw the orange almost unavoidable attack. Use the Dash through him. Dash Master + Sharp Shadow + Quick Slash is a good combination.

I didn't bother healing during the fight.
Ugh those orange discs are the worst

EDIT: Shadow Dash really should last through the entire dash animation goddamn

Been playing for awhile now. I beat the mantis lord earlier today. The game really opened up after beating Soul Master. I explored Crystal Peaks, Howling Cliffs, some new areas in greenpath and crossroads, beat the mantis lords and finally bought a bunch of charms and got my first mask upgrade, two charm notches, soul vessel and learned two sword arts. Im unsure why but I decided to hold off on exploring deepnest and found a boss in the Royal Waterways that I'm working on now.

Overall the game is tough but fair. Ive been enjoying it a lot. I do think the beggining was a little slow and things didn't fully click until after I beat the Soul Master. However. It's been an incredible game.

Man, that
Lost Kin fight is super difficult, mostly because of those things that keep spawning in the middle of the fight. might use my recently gained glowing womb crest for this since they might help cover for me.

Weaversong and Defenders Crest. As soon as it starts jump all the way up on the top right and latch on as if you're about to do a crystal flight. The weavers will attack Lost Kin and Defenders kills the blobs. Fight is over in no time. A resetera member mentioned it and it works.

Part of me is happy they are supporting the game because it will bring more people to it over time. Another part hopes they have a team working on the sequel because there's a lot of things I'm eager to see them improve on in a sequel. Hell, even having sloped ground would be cool.

I think a refinement of their bosses would be my number one request. I don't dislike it, but I think it's one area they went a bit too far down the Souls path in my opinion.

Finished White Palace tonight and never want to see saw blades or spikes again. Also first two trials at colosseum so I could finally upgrade to pure nail. Sitting at 94% complete. Team Cherry are incredible.

Just ran into a completely obnoxious glitch (Switch here) on

Soul Tyrant. I got to his second phase but only had one mask left. I started to fall into the hole but double and wall jumped out to heal on the right ledge since I had at least 2-3 masks worth of soul, only for it to bug out and not let me focus. I was forced to go down and of course instantly died on his first ground pound.

I know it's a glitch because the very next attempt I was able to heal on the left ledge before falling in any.

I didn't think Deepnest was too bad in the first area with the scolopendras burrowing through the tunnels.

Then I walked into the spider hole where spiders keep scuttling out of the foreground and chasing me.

And then I met Nosk. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPE. (Great sequence, tho.)

Oh, and the Midwife. Lots of dialogue to check out there, but... Be careful, lol.

On a side note, the lore about Hornet's connection to the area is pretty great.

I also stumbled upon Queen's Gardens last night. Maybe the most beautiful area in the game!

Me and my wife saw Nosk but missed the actual path to him for most of the game. We thought maybe the game had visually glitched out for a second, which actually made it even spookier

I recommend against completely cheesing bosses unless you've really attempted them a lot of times and simply cannot be bothered anymore.

Traitor Lord has only 2 different attacks if you stay close and they're well telegraphed. A dash attack and a jump-dive attack. You can simply dash through both, or even simple-side step the jump-dive if you're already very close to him. Once he gets lower health he'll additionally scurry back and cast the energy waves you have to dash through.

It's really a nice tutorial for shade-dash timing and kinda fun when you eventually got his timings figured out.

That Hornet Theme is soooooo good (as is the OST overall).

It's funny how when it starts I immediately anticipated Hornets battle cries.

Almost done with the game, I think. Tonight I cleared the Watchers (finally! just facetanked them with spells lol, still almost died...) Flower quest, Lost Kin, White Defender (I had to look him up, he wasn't where the Dung Defender was... quite hidden, would have never found it), and the first DLC boss. Then I went to do the not? last boss. I got the "bad" ending (not? last boss was tough, but manageable with all my upgrades, pretty fun too). Was depressing. Had 102% anyway, no doubt because of some DLC content. Now I have this left to do, as far as I know:

- Colosseum, part 3 (tried it once, didn't make it)
- DLC 2nd boss
- White Palace + True Final Boss

Thinking of farming some geo for the another "unbreakable" charm. I already got Unbreakable Strength but I can imagine Unbreakable Heart would come in handy, too.

Edit: hmm, I also never bothered with the banker. Should I try? Oh and that reminds me, I should get that lady's blessing since I have all the charms...

The replayable fights of the Dream bosses (those that have them) can get fucked, though. Redoing them with more HP and/or them doing 2 masks of damage or more? lol no

I'm at 93%. I don't think I'll end up doing the last arena challenge or Nightmare Grimm. I still have to do the flower quest even though I heard they patched out the ability to use the Dreamgate for it, which is lame.
It's still useful. I dropped a Dreamgate near the flower girl. If I messed up (which I did, a few times :P) during the trek to the monument, I'd warp back there, without resting at the bench, so that most of the enemies will stay dead. I also placed markers on the map to help me navigate the optimal path. Fog Canyon is stressful with all those jellyfish and electric fields, lol... but if you take it slow it's not so bad. The spikes at the end are not that hard, but just mean to put right there before the end. :P

It's worth it, it was my last mask shard so now I have maximum HP, yay.

Compared to what you listed (3rd colosseum trial, true final boss and nkg) the dream bosses are a walk in the park tbh.
Welp... you mean that
upgraded Grey Mighty Zote with exploding minions and doing 2+ masks of damage is still less hard, way less even, than those bosses?? O_o

Oh I missed the replayable part lol

I thought you meant the other ones. When I saw the 2 masks of damage I thought you meant the failed champion.

NGK has very little RNG in his fight so I feel that once you finally get a good read on him and get your execution way up you can consistently beat him. It remains extremely fast paced, though.

Haven't gone beyond 3rd level of Zote yet, will probably attempt today, but with him spawning minions and all it seems that there's a higher chance for things to go awry to unfortunate placement.

Oh thank Satan. Nah, I meant the replayable ones. I think I killed Z like 2-3 more times (he had about 4 additional adjectives? I forgot, I think I a got a double KO at some point) before saying "fuck this" haha.

Yeah I don't think they are as hard probably, at least they "only" do 2 masks of damage while Zote/White Defender go beyond that as you win giving you basically no margin of error after a certain point.

How the heck do I pass those black goo areas? I've opened up all maps and see no open paths...

Welp. Weird lady won't give me her blessing. Apparently I need 1 more charm. WTF? Do breakable ones not count (I have 2 of those, 1 unbreakable)? Or do I need the "complete" White Fragment charm?

They count. If you have all the charm spots filled then it's because of that white charm since it's not complete.

Played for 3 hours and 41 minutes today for a total of 19 hours 26 minutes. Yesterday I found the boss Brooding Mawlek which kicked my butt initially. So today I went back and after the fourth attempt and some charm changes, I finally got his wall of goo down for dodging so the rest was easy. Used Joni's Charm since I had no way to heal effectively in the fight. Anyways, I beat him and he gave me a piece of a mask, which finally gave me enough pieces for another health upgrade.
After him I decided to explore Fungal Wastes some more so I went down there and bought the fragile strength and heart charm from that ant bug. Continued exploring the upper-left side and found Spore Shroom charm which is insane. If I found that earlier in the game it would have made a number of bosses a lot easier. Next on my list was finding the fast travel station for Fungal Wastes because I neglected to find it my first time through. Soon I found it rather easily and I am knocking myself for missing it initially. Just a little to the right outside the station there is a shard which I collected, leaving only one left to upgrade my soul. Satisfied, I went above and found a new area called Fog Canyon. Tough section to navigate because of the homing missles enemies launch at you when you kill them. Exploring around I found Millibelle the Banker and gave her 2500 of my geo since I had 5300 on hand. I went looking for Cornifer up above but couldn't find him, so I quit exploring Fog Canyon for now.

Now it was back to Fungal Waste to finally have my much anticipated rematch with Mantis Lords. Cakewalk. Beat it first try thanks to my upgraded nail and the ever-so-powerful Spore Shroom charm. Heading towards the door I unlocked a new area called Deepnest, what the fuck. Place was creepy as hell, even Cornifer wanted nothing to do with it. I had to press on so I explored the upper area of Deepnest with the winding paths and twisting turns; I saw Zote a floor below me needing help again, and noticing some other masked warrior. Both of which I failed to reach. Pressing on, I was getting hit by a bunch of new enemies as well as those train-bugs-of-sorts and only had one mask left, I fell in a claustrophobic hole and by sheer luck I landed in a hot spring with a bench. Boy was I ever so happy to fall down the right hole. I decided with my new save spot I could explore more, so I did, going deeper into the caverns and again upwards, coming across yet another bench and a character named Cloth. I saw what looked to be a tram service door and went through finding what I believe is a newish area, the Failed Tramway. I walked briefly through it before stopping at a cliff because it looked like it was a mini-boss fight if I jumped down, so I backtracked to Deepnest and went further up coming out to the underside of Greenpath.
Now Greenpath I thought I pretty much fully explored so imagine my surprise when there was still plenty to see among Greenpath. Hiking onwards, I found a new character yet again, called Moss Prophet, he didn't seem to do anything so I left him be. Made my way right and unlocked a secret passageway to Deepnest which I found to be nice because then I don't have to trek all the way from the bench to the Mantis Lords boss arena to enter Deepnest. Going back around and up towards the underside again, I went left this time and had some platforming nail-hopping I had to do. Died once which made the journey back from the Deepnest bench a pain, but completing the platforming rearded me with my final soul piece upgrade increasing my soul. I was very satisfied that in my play session today I managed to upgrade both my health and my soul.

With it getting late and myself getting tired, I decided to call it a night, so I went back to Dirtmouth to rest and quit there. Still haven't done any of the main quest bosses yet which is crazy to me. I really need to hurry up and complete the story bear minimum before Octopath comes out, because I'm dropping everything for that game.

I didn't give up; I pushed through.

Now I am at
The Celestial
.

I don't think I can do it. I will stop for awhile and block out a 3 hour stretch where I can try over and over but this boss is just destroying me.

Wow ty! Cannot believe I was here before standing right in front of the thing and was just pressing up didn't realize I need to crack it...

Also, what do I do when I get to the far left? I just see empty room, anything of significance besides the mind reading with dream sword?

Help.
Hollow Knight
is kicking my ass. I do have some questions about beating him: what constitutes beating him "early"? I already have all the
Dreamer masks
but I still can't travers that
smog barrier
, which leads me to believe I still need just one more gear/power up...

I think I'm finally done with this game since the only worthwhile bosses that are left are the ones I'd have to smash my head against for multiple hours to beat and I don't feel like doing that. I'm still a little bummed that it's finally over... I want more!
Stopped playing at 89%.

You should explore the top right part (iirc) of the map, if you haven't already. And then proceed from there.

Are you talking about the Abyss on the bottom left with those "screaming faces"?

Does it remind you of a spell? :p

Ok this is driving me crazy, I need help filling in what I assume is a very inconsequential part of the map.

There's an edge at the end of the hallway connecting Fungal Wates and City of Tears that just won't fill in for me. Based on images of the map online, there should be a way past the wall but I just can't figure it out.

There are some vertical passages that doesn't have straight vertical walls. Is there another ability than the wall jump that is required to be able to climb upwards at those passages?

Yup, there is. It's one of the last to get (or at least, it's one of the last I've got).
It's a double jump, as you might have imagined.

You can spend upwards of 50,000 Geo in this game. Just gotta unlock all the shops/options.

Thanks

Doing that tonight actually, I have too much not to fuck it up and lose it all at this point.

Did you find the shopkeeper's key in
Crystal Peak?
That opens up some extra stuff in Sly's shop

Oh...no I have not. I got stuck somewhere at Crystal Peak without a way forward, couldn't find the map to really explore in detail and just left to hit Deepnest for now :/

PS: I didn't really get to play much the last few days so I'm still stuck in Deepnest and that area is really getting to me. It's great gameplay wise but it's incredibly claustrophobic and I can't wait for it to be over. Based on what I'm seeing on that map, that's not gonna be the case all that soon.

Just beat the first boss! Loving the game so much so far. The score is hauntingly beautiful. It's playing in the background for me right now and I'd be happy to just leave it there, haha.

I encountered a... circular bug thing in a shell in the same area as the boss after killing it. It ran away. Is that bad? Also, should I buy all the pins ASAP? Don't know what else to use my cash for, but I haven't bought the vendor, hot springs, and blue something... plus these two others that seem to be custom pins.

circular bug is cool hes just running away. you should buy the quill and the compass pins are good but they aren't crucial until you explore more areas. there will be plenty to buy soon enough.
