This 'problem' reeks of first-world, upper-class bias. Of course you don't really, really need to shower daily if you live in a temperate climate and working a white-collar job while commuting with a car or air-conditioned public transportation. Us in tropical countries with massive air pollution or those who do intensive manual labor under the sun cannot afford the 'luxury' of not taking shower daily.

I always thought it was understood that showering was so you don't stink and feel gross, not to be healthy. Is this article actually a revelation to anyone?

Who goes on a camping trip and worries about getting sick because they won't shower for a few days?

One Wipe Charlie sounds like the name of an outlaw who is infamous for not wiping enough.

Well just to be clear since grooming may not of been taught, you still wipe after the OWC.

So they're the reason works can smell like foul death, but we're not allowed to mention it or else HR will get us in trouble or something

I shower once every two days, more if needed (workout, very hot day). Which is fine, more than enough. Though yeah, some people reek (and judging from the thread, many of you do), so those people should definitely shower more often.

If you have sex regularly or workout or both you better be showering everyday.

Every other day is more than enough here in Europe. People on here gotta be some naturally smelly ass people if after one day you already stink like a racoon.

I shower daily, Feels great I'm the morning and for a few hours after. Not sure I could give it up.

wake up,
drink coffee,
poop,
shower (always after poop)

why do people eat breakfast after taking a shower? what if your breakfast and coffee triggers your poop?
don't you want to shower AFTER your poop, not before?

There are ways to your bun without showering.

I shower every other day. I've never once had anyone complain about any smell. Change your clothes and use deodorant. People are in general really wasteful in most things, so no surprise that they are in this area too.

It might not be the most healthy, but as the article states, its too remove smell and odour which is literally why you should do it everyday.

You dont have to overdo it with shower gels and shampoo (damaging hair and all that), but you have to shower once a day in the morning.

I have to shower twice in the day, once in the morning and once after my workout.

I worked at a lunch cafe for about 2 years and my hands hated me for it. My hands got so dry because they were wet so often. It became one of the main reasons to why I started searching for a new job.

Took about 2 months before my hands were back to normal where they didn't itch and I could stop using lotion on them.

my cousins hands were not only dry and itchy. They looked like leprosy infected hands that had 2nd degree burns.
The docs tested her skin in the affected area and they described it being like old brittle parchment which cracks into a bloody mess after slightly touching it. She wasn't prescribed any cremes or lotions because at this state they would have caused more harm than good. They skin had to rebuild itself, layer after layer, on it's own over weeks.

Showering every day probably isn't bad, have a scorching long hot shower and lathering your body and hair in chemicals probably not unless you've been dipped in paint or mud.

Also I don't believe the people who say they don't shower everyday and don't smell. You're probably just used to your own odor.

Unless you're one of those lucky people that don't sweat. :P

As long as people don't have a strong odor that bothers others, I could care less how often they shower. It's highly dependent on many things so it's not very useful to give a universal number for how often you should shower in a week. I'm sure the advice given applies to someone that doesn't really get sweaty or dirty in their daily lives and doesn't live in a constant 30 C climate. Then there's the "natural musk" factor that needs consideration, so even if the rest of your body suffers from dry skin, you'll still have to keep your odor producing glands in check.

I do agree that a lot of people are excessive in their showering and cause more harm than good to their skin. Especially with shampoos. The industry is built on the idea that once you use that stuff it'll disturb your natural oil production and you have to keep using the products daily to reach the same result you'd have if you hadn't used them at all and had a healthy scalp to begin with. Of course not all have that to begin with, and shampoo is a solution if your hair gets dirty, but at the same time it'll disturb the skin all the same. If you can live without it and your smell doesn't bother others, I'd suggest you do it.

Interesting, probably one day shower the next not is the best way, depending on activities of course.

I shower every day.

From my experience, people who don't shower every day think they do not stink. But they usually do.

I shower once a day in winter and sometimes twice a day in hot weather. I sweat like a bastard in warm weather, so I have to shower at least once daily. I never consider it's for removing germs, but more for getting rid of body odour and freshening up. There is no way I'd ever be okay showering just once or twice a week.

I think the only day I'd skip shower is if it's dead cold and I'm at home doing nothing strenuous the current and previous day. Rarely happens though.

Otherwise I shower daily, occasionally twice.

My hair is a terrible, greasy, untamable mess every morning. Even after a haircut. So yeah, I need a shower daily.

Even then, it feels nice showering daily. Probably a waste of a lot of water tho.

I once heard if you shampoo and use conditioner every day it can exasperate this issue.
Could be worth trying some dry shampoo see if it helps?

I shower every morning before I leave for work. Even on weekends I immediately go to the shower the moment I wake up. How is this even a question?
Your missing the point of the article. It's fine if you are showering/bathing to get clean and smell better. It won't increase your chance at getting infectious diseases.

I shower daily (hot locale, too), but recently stopped using shampoo to try it out. The first two weeks were pretty bad, but my hair has never felt so good or manageable since.

This article is the same thing we've always read, OP.

If you:

- sweat a lot
- do a lot of physical activity

You should shower every day.

If you indeed chill in the A/C and don't work out, then no a daily shower isn't "vital". Some doctors have suggested hopping in the shower and hitting " vital areas", and using soap everywhere else is probably just stripping necessary oil from your body.
