It successfully provided an alternative to GAF without the cloud of unpleasantness hanging overhead. What more could one want, really?

I wish members of the reality based community would stop agreeing with each other so much. That can't be healthy!

Balance in all things. I ingest half regular food and half maggot-rich poop for every meal.

The colour scheme, transparency, frequent updates and generally decent people here all ring my bell. I think I've checked in on Gaf maybe 3 times since Era was born and every time has made me happy I made the jump.

I mean, I'm afraid to even criticize the moderation in response to your question so if being more open to disagreement was a goal I'd say it failed. But I don't think it really was and overall I think it has been more successful than I ever imagined. I thought infighting would crop up given the projects community nature and the money involved but it all seems to have gone smoothly. I don't think ive gone back to the old site even once

I think it's the opposite. mods are enforcing a single opinion and worldview. it's actually more strict than GAF but without the embarassment of having a compromised public face.

I don't know, but the transformation of what neogaf was vs. what neogaf became is hilarious. Who would have thought.

Sometimes I leave Reset and GAF on two tabs right next to each other and marvel at the switch from purple to orange as I click them.

I feel the community here is, generally, very good.

I've definitely found myself on the end of "differing opinions" from time to time but I've never felt like anyone was outright disrespectful. I have Twitter for that.

Those different viewpoints like to show up for threads like Trump's North Korea summit or to drive by shit post but when the thread is about abducting children or ignoring the needless deaths of thousands of Puerto Ricans suddenly they can't be found. I wonder where they go.

"Differing views" are not as valid as one other, nor should they be as tolerated as one another. Nor should certain views be ""welcomed"". I do not think OP is posting in good faith. Resetera seems exactly what Neogaf was. Neogaf now is like 5 posters with alt accounts right?

I think this forum allows for very little nuance, a lot of discussions seem to be very black and white. It also lacks a decent sense of humor like classic GAF had.

It was never an experiment.

It was a move out of a necessity to no longer support something we couldn't while retaining the core of our community..

I dont know if this thread is talking about what i think it is. But sometimes i'm very afraid of saying my opinion toward something, being afraid of being understood by the mods. This doesnt have to do political situation, but more like with entertainment franchise. I was under fire for asking a question in solo star wars thread and it almost got me some infraction. So yeah, im afraid we still have long way to go

I have found Resetera a very good forum for video game news, community, and fandom. I don't use it as a news source or for community outside of video games. The video game side is very active and I was surprised to see on the front page that there are only 50,000 members or so. Given the frequency of posts and threads, I just assumed membership was higher.

For the most part yes. There are certain topics that ignite a certain level of inflexible thinking but there's nothing wrong with a community self regulating which viewpoints they do and don't want to have an open discussion about.
