I think less so then in the past thankfully. If you said Zelda 2 was a great game 10 years ago on gaf you'd get your head bitten off. I think it's gradually getting better regarded over time. It's never going to get the full due it deserves, but I'll settle for not having to debate my lists every time I put it in like I used to

Ya, it's certainly seen a bit of a resurgence recently as people who didn't grow up having played the original LoZ go back and revisit it as a historical curiosity. You'll still see older people ranking it lower than it deserves, but it's less often.

I always liked Link's Awakening more than A Link to the Past overall pretty good list though especially as BotW and MM are my favorites.

I think Breath of The Wild is number #1 but it's a good list. Never had a game made me so intrigued to discover it's world.

Despite its aged and is not my top favorite Zelda but for me the number one Zelda is OT,
The shift to 3d was unparalleled back then.

Happy to see LTTP deservedly on top. I would have put TP, LA and ALBW up a few places but it's a reasonable list.

I wish I could see what others do in BOTW. I just don't get it
I don't see it either and I do see that view passed around a lot as well. I wonder in hindsight will the game be a GTA IV situation where it was widely praised as an all time great game around its launch but in hindsight be looked upon less fondly.

How could ALTTP be objectively the greatest game of all time i barely see it mentioned anymore even in fanboy zelda lists.

Really solid list.

At this point, I'd rate my personal top 5:

1) Breath of the Wild
2) Link to the Past
3) Ocarina of Time
4) Link's Awakening
5) Zelda II (Dark sheep my ass. Loved it as a kid, and beat it as a kid)

I still have to complete MM on 3DS, so not sure where that would fit in at the moment. Yeah I'm a few decades late on that one.

Really wish Minish Cap were a little higher, I absolutely loved that game.

And Link's Awakening belongs in the top 3. But I absolutely agree with the first place.

Oh wow, it's Andre! Sorry, just had to say hello as you're one of my favorite online personalities. Love GX and everything you guys put out. Seriously, you guys are my go-to for gaming impressions along with Easy Allies and some others.

In terms of this list, I'm so tired of ALTTP being placed so high all the time. The game is good, but ALBW is far, far better. As in LA, and the Oracles. OOT should be above MM, and Triforce Heroes is waaaaaaaaaaay too low. Triforce Heroes is FAR better than PH or ST.

Otherwise I guess its fine.

1. Majora's Mask (not the remake)
2. Twilight Princess
3. Ocarina of Time (remake appreciated)
4. Minish Cap
5. Oracles

still great: ALTTP, Zelda 2
good: ALBW, Zelda 1, Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild
let's never talk about this again: Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks

i have a feeling that a link between worlds was way overrated. i literally remember nothing about the game expect the flat thing and the fact that i was underwhelmed by it.

I liked it very much originally, but recently replayed it and definitely found it to be not as special as I remembered. It has good dungeons and music, but the 2.5D is hideous (always was) and the pacing and exploration are strikingly worse than ALTTP. Both main gimmicks (free item choice, wall walking) feel throwaway. I'm far from being as much of a huge fan of ALTTP as others, but I started to appreciate it more after also replaying it on SNES Mini and now after experiencing the inferiority of ALBW shortly afterwards.

Twilight Princess should be above OOT and Wind Waker but aside from that, solid enough list.

Top 5 makes sense, though I would switch around the order some and not put ALttP in that area (though it would be close to said area). Twilight Princess or ALBW would probably be in my top 5 instead.

1-18 generally makes sense overall except for Zelda 1 and Zelda 2. Those should be lower than they are (at least behind Spirit Tracks and/or Four Swords).

Haven't played the rest of the list except for Crossbow Training, but I would think that Tri-Force Heroes should be above that "game". Was Tri-Force Heroes that poorly regarded?

LTTP is my fave. I also really liked TP. I've played most of them, but I skipped the Oracle games. I've been meaning to get back to those. Virtual Console on Switch please! (I played ALBW on a borrowed 3DS, so I don't have one to play Oracles on).

I've always wanted to try the Tingle game too, but never got around to importing it.

That list is so messed up, I can't even begin to comment on it. LTTP being first is one of the few redeeming choices in it.

i have a feeling that a link between worlds was way overrated. i literally remember nothing about the game expect the flat thing and the fact that i was underwhelmed by it.

Maybe you should replay it. Link Between Worlds is one of the greats.

So sick of BOTW so high on these lists, hopefully times goes by and we can knock it down especially after the next one hopefully has the things missing from BOTW.

The list is ok, I've seen worse.

Good list except I am not sure why Majora's Mask is ranked so high, 3rd. It wasn't a game that did anything special, such as inventing/reinventing a new genre and gameplay system. I believe it did not even received the same level of acclaim by critics or fans when it was released. This sudden trend of elevating Majora's Mask beyond Ocarina of Time is perplexing to me. It's similar to how some are saying FF9 is even better than FF7. I understand preference and all, but in terms of accomplishment/accolades, there is no denying how OOT is objectively a better game.

Still don't understand why the moon has a face though. Was it brought to life, was it always alive and people not notice, is it innately evil or good? Doesn't make any sense.

To this day, there is still nothing like MM. It's a brilliant and unique game.

And no, OoT is not "objectively" better at all if I can say MM has better puzzles, story, overworld and side quests. STT also shits on every dungeon in OoT.

Hmmm, my Top 5:

1. Majora's Mask
2. Breath of the Wild
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Link's Awakening
5. A Link to the Past

Not the worst list I've seen though. I would definitely rank Zelda II higher though, I really liked that game.

I should really restart oracle of seasons on 3ds. I liked what I played but I got stuck and have no idea how to proceed. Kinda dislike how it and Link's Awakening have paths to the next tile screen that are dead ends though.

I think my top 3 would be like

1) A Link to the Past
2) Ocarina of Time
3) Majora's Mask

After that I would probably go for Seasons, Ages and Awakening.

I understand why BotW is up there, it's hard to be harsh towards it in a direct comparison to N64 games which are primitive in some sense, for example the ways in which you can interact with the environment and other quality of life improvements. Ultimately though, it's not my kind of game. I stopped playing after 2 divine beasts and 80 shrines and never felt the urge to go back.

I actually have no issues whatsoever with the entries in the top six, even if I could sit and debate the order.

For me it's

BotW
Majora's Mask
LttP
Wind Waker
Link's Awakening
OoT

After that it's a free for all but my favorite six are literally represented in their top six. I'm good with it

Lots of games before and after Majora's Mask had the time traveling mechanic if that's what you think made Majora's Mask unique. Chrono Trigger/Cross in PSX, Ephemeral Fantasia for PS2, Dead Rising/FF13-3 for PS360.

Objective means measurable. If you say Majora's Mask has better X item, then that is subjective. Objectively, Ocarina of Time is the highest rated game of all time on Metacritic, scoring 99. You would be rare to find a general consensus that agree with Majora's Mask being the better game than Ocarina of Time.

is it this hard for you to accept others like it, and will continue to like it? You don't like it as much as others do, and that's okay. But stop questioning others that do like it.
Jesus. As much as BotW detractors complain about how their opinion and right to dissent is not respected, they seem to be the ones who flat out cannot bring themselves to accept that others do like the game that they don't, and remain weirdly fixated on it, even a year and a half after the game's release, when everyone has moved on.

If allowed, I would have Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask in joint position; hard to decide which one trumps the other given both games excel for slightly varied reasons and yet do some things that the other doesn't. But A Link to the Past at the top is fair.

I don't find BOTW to be replayable at all. It's a one and done for me. It's a good game, but replayability is a huge factor for making a top 10 list.

I know it's a divisive issue, but I'd always rank OOT over MM for being more revolutionary and having a more complete and epic beginning and ending.

Me too it was far more influential on future game design across the industry as well. It still holds up I just st started replaying it on 3DS.

Do people still think there's a 'honeymoon phase' for BotW? It's regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, deal with it.

Nothing gets my blood boiling like a Zelda list. It's not healthy for me to engage, but I can't help it.

Link's Awakening is too low.

Majora's is way too high.

I'm hoping for the day when people realize that Majora's Mask is not as good of a game as the other entries. There's a lot to love, but it is such a chore to play.

Also Spirit Tracks is easily an improvement over Phantom Hourglass. They need to switch those two.
I'm hoping for the day people who dislike Majora and pan it's incredibly forward-thinking mechanic as being "a chore" realize it's not a chore at all, and it's a game that's meant to be stressful and like a groundhog day. It might not be for everyone, but it's not objectively "a chore". That's like someone who doesn't like survival horror saying "this is a bad game that deserves to be lower on a list because finding ammo is a pain in the ass."

It's just you, and many others apparently. The game is to-this-day, incredibly innovative with its design. Not to mention it probably has more depth in it than any other Zelda game. The characters actually have personality, stories, etc. It's not just people who say the same lines to you every time you talk to them.

Breath of the Wild is not even in my top 5 lmao. It's kinda sad people can't objectively look at BOTW and see its lack of depth. The game has alarmingly little enemy variety, the game play loop never evolves, dungeons are empty, shrines are repetitive, quests offer very little challenge, and the story is virtually non-existent. Once you understand there is little to collect in the open world, you realize how bland everything is.
I understand people like to look at BOTW positively because of it's lengthy development cycle, brand power, and correlative release with Nintendo Switch, but I honestly think in 10 years it will have aged worse than any Zelda game to date.

The freedom of the gameplay makes it pretty darn fun to mess around with even after you beat it. I could definitely see why you'd say that though.

Discovering new things in the game is really what makes it excel. After you see most of it, the magic of discovery naturally wears off. But still, I love messing around in that game world.

lol WW has absolutely no reason to be number 5. Its one of the worst 3d zeldas. Change the empty overworld to an empty ocean and suddenly people love your game for some reasons

I do like the top 4 tho

It's best to just ignore some of the posts unless they have a respectable way of showing their disagreement with BOTW or any game for that matter.

besides. I think they are alt accounts.

I don't think anyone would ever argue that the inclusion of any kind of time travel mechanic in a game would be intrinsically unique. That said, the implementation of time travel in Majora's Mask has absolutely nothing in common with Chrono Trigger/Cross (I won't comment on the other games you mentioned as I haven't played them).

Yes, Ocarina of Time is objectively the highest rated game on Metacritic ... but that doesn't mean Metacritic itself is an objective measure of a game's worth — which should be obvious, being that it's an aggregator of subjective critiques snapshotted at a particular moment in time. Arguing over which game in the franchise is "objectively" better is just silly anyway, especially when the two games share as much in common as OoT and MM do.

It's not the time travel that makes MM unique. Its the atmosphere and quirkiness, it really is it's own thing while a lot of the other Zeldas feel like familiar territory. The focus on the strange town and it's quirky characters with the bizarre looming threat of that freaky moon destroying everything, it really is a unique experience.

And also I find the best art is more divisive. Art with high scores on aggregator websites usually just means it has mass appeal and that doesn't make it better or worse than anything else.
