What I meant was that, when is a manager allowed to call the police on someone not following the rules? If you are the manager of a swimming pool, when is your break off for calling the police on someone (disregarding race for this hypothetical question)?

When they are doing something that is potentially harmful or disturbing to people around them. Socks don't fit that bill. And if you want to be that uptight, then follow through on everyone. Kick out anyone wearing a shirt or non-bathing shorts/suits. But that didn't happen here. You guys are so focused on the stupid Fucking socks you are missing the actual issue here.

It would only be fair if the other people who were wearing what they weren't supposed to be were treated the exact same way.

Yeah.

While it's kinda weird, Aqua Shoes are a thing, and serve kind of the same purpose. So while odd, I wouldn't see an issue with it were I the manager. And indeed, if other people were wearing articles of clothing that aren't traditionally associated with swimming, it only would have been fair if they were called out as well.

Why work in circles to validate the woman's behavior? Socks in a pool, so fucking what?

Since some of us are victim-blaming already, did he try not being black? Wouldn't need the police called on him if so.

I can't get over the fact that some of yall are so obsessed with the dude wearing socks...yet don't take the time to consider the community ass butter soup you are swimming in. Yet that dude's socks are over the line? To the point where the cop calling was justified?

I can't...

No, not just for socks, for any rule breaking. Apparently other people were breaking the rules too and this black person was targeted so that's not cool.

But generally speaking, if a manager is asking you to respect the rules and you're not complying, of course they'll have to call the cops to escort you out eventually. Again though, this should apply to everyone.

Nah. That's bullshit.

YOU DON'T CALL THE COPS FOR NON VIOLENT, NON DANGEROUS DISCOMFORT.

Make a note, file a complaint with the condo or housing association. They can then fine or ban or evict or sanction or warn or whatever.

You don't call the cops over wearing clothes at a fucking pool.

Why are you assuming that everyone cleans their swimsuits while this one guy doesn't wash his socks? For all you know it was a clean pair he threw on for the specific purpose of going to the pool? Do you not realize how dumb it is to go down this road and engage in the kind of mental gymnastics it takes to even attempt to justify any part of this stupid ass racist lady's overreaction? As opposed to just not getting bent out of shape over someone wearing socks to a public pool?
But he was black!
He can't possibly be clean, right?

When you never have a real reason to call the police because you live in a bubble, you lose perspective I guess.
Yeah that's a big issue along with people inventing the black strawman who turns violent when being forced to leave. Putting aside the issue of him being singled out among other violators, if somebody refuses to comply and also refuses to leave for such a minor issue, you wait until the person leaves and then discuss punishment later up to and including banning from the pool. In this case, if they decided that socks were a bigger issue than other articles of clothing, then they need to modify the rule and enforce it consistently. Consistency is the biggest counter argument towards those who always try to claim any individual slight against people of color is free from racism.

Lot of pool stuff this year. Racist really don't want you to go swimming.
They don't want you congregating around them period. Pools just happen to be place people hang out in the summer.

I would like to point out this was the second story ive heard in a week where cops were called on a black person for no reason, and the black person was not shot and the racist lost there job.

Are we making progress?

She said white people were wearing clothing other than swimsuits, such as hats or shirts, in the pool.

The only issue I take here is that shirts have been considered acceptable pool wear since at least my childhood years because too many people are self conscious about their bodies, and hats serve a function.

I would worry about socks from a safety perspective. Pool shoes are made to get wet and can grip all of the surfaces correctly. A pair of Hanes are not.

So is wearing a t-shirt in the pool.

Yet go into any public pool in America and you will probably see dozens of people doing just that, and nobody calls the fucking cops on them.

People have been wearing shirts in a pool for decades though. It's been normalized. Socks however isn't common even today.

Regardless, neither is a reason to call the cops, but I don't find shirts to be as weird as socks because one is common and the other isn't.

I was once ejected from the rooftop pool at the Hyatt Regency Shinjuku, initially for having a shoulder tattoo of the St. Andrew's Cross flag (Scotland) and the legend, "Scotland Forever" emblazoned under it.

The pool lady insisted I wear a giant band aid to hide it, because "Tattoos are for criminals and are very dirty."

THEN it escalated to the fact that I was not wearing a bathing cap. Which was absolutely bizarre, since I am as bald as a dolphin.

I complained to management and they said she was new and didn't know about how gross gaijin are.

What should the woman have done if he is breaking the rules and did not comply with her requests?
For starters, providing identification proving she was who she claimed she was when making authoritative demands.

She skipped such a basic step and went straight to calling the police.

Do you acknowledge random strangers with no ID ordering you around?

Wearing socks in the pool? That is pretty gross and not very hygienic. If you don't want your feet scorching bring flip flops. What should the woman have done if he is breaking the rules and did not comply with her requests?

If the person keeps refusing to cooperate (black or white), eventually cops will be called no?

Sure, in most public pools, you're supposed wayw your feet or dip it in chlorine before going in the pool. Socks will have the accumulation of all the days sweat soaked in.

No, not just for socks, for any rule breaking. Apparently other people were breaking the rules too and this black person was targeted so that's not cool.

This is probably the best response. Don't single out but respectfully enforce the rules for everybody.

Generally it is kinda gross to wear your days clothes in a public pool. I can understand a new shirt if you are sunburned or special plastic shoes for children.

You don't call the cops over fucking socks. No matter what. It's an internal non violent social dispute on private property.

You give a warning. File a report with management.

You don't escalate to violence unless you fucking need to.

Ive worked as a lifeguard fam

why are you going to a public pool if you're worried about hygeine. You do realize that all the water touches peoples butthole, and feet, and armpits, and genitalia and that people piss in their all the time? The idea that sucks are this ungodly entity is the stupidest thing on earth.

Yeah, it's racially motivated. I have been to public pools and let me tell you.... the last thing you need to worry about is feet hygiene.

Mhm, just what I would think a normal person would do. Doesn't has anything to do with race, he could Asian, White, Hispanic, Black, etc. . You wear a swimsuit directly on your skin and therefore I would expect most people to get a fresh one. Most would probably get into their fresh swimwear and keep the socks from the day on, because generally people are lazy. Again, no matter the race, could be White, Asian, Hispanic, whatever else.

If they are fresh, I have nothing against it.

No I am not defending her actions! Stop trying to paint me as racist and somehow trying to pin this on me.
If you enforce the rules, enforce them for all, don't racially profile or single out anybody because of any bias or hate you have!

Why aren't you assuming these socks are clean, tho? Like, they were probably fresh out the wash and he was like, "Imma just wear these down to the pool because that concrete is fucking hot today."

And nah, if a manager is singling me out and not addressing other people I see doing similar things? Not cool.

I mean, I probably would have left, because I'm a large black man afraid of getting shot by the cops, but I wouldn't have been happy about it. So kudos for this person for standing their ground.
I just assume people are lazy and don't change their socks, which is probably true for the majority of a population. Has nothing to do with race just how people are. Same thing can be said about people not washing their hands after using the toilet.

Of course you don't single anybody out, doesn't matter for what reason, bias or hate you might have!
If you enforce the rules, then enforce them for everybody in the same way.

Obviously this makes her reaction here too much, she shouldn't have called the police, she shouldn't be racist and single out a black man.

Sorry if it generally sounded like I approve of her actions or think she was in the right in any shape or form.

When she said it would be ok for them to go into another pool, just not this one, that's when she lost any kind of semblance of a genuine argument. That and other people had shirts and hats on and the lady didn't give a fuck.

Interestingly enough, I know people that prefer to wear socks in the pool. The bottom of some pools can fuck your feet up.

Lol now it's about slipping and falling. Most people are walking around with nothing on their feet and even running and jumping into the pool

Yes you don't but where I live the police is not violent. They have a chat with you and that's all. Therefore I might not find it weird for the police to be called in certain situations where people are not following the rules of an establishment.
Also, the chance of anybody getting shot where I live is 0%.
It was a bit too eager to call the police for something this small though.

During a conversation with the officer, the couple said, Ms. Walker offered to allow them to go to a different pool at the complex.

"That's when I finally understand: It's not the socks, it's me," Mr. Yates said.

Lol go to the back of the bus boy you don't belong up here with us civil folks now get for we beat you

You cant even make an excuse as to her doing it based on that comment, she just didn't want black people at the pool

The couple took the children back to the apartment, and Ms. Porter posted about the confrontation on Facebook. The next day, she said, the management company contacted her and offered her three months of free rent.

3 months rent free man I'd kill for that lol she came out at head
