Seems like a great way for a bunch of games to come and go with nobody noticing. Especially with how poor the Switch storefront is.

Discoverability vs Bottomless choices is quite the conundrum.

Glad to see Nintendo on the receiving end of a game glut either way.

Feels like it's been a long time since they've enjoyed this much content & variety on their platforms.

We're supposed to embrace mobile levels of trash games getting dumped on switch??? I browse the store weekly with what we're getting, but if you add in 20-30 bad looking games I'll probably stop.

Yes, god help us if more people would appreciate quality over a huge quantity of knock offs of old hit games and questionable japanese titles depicting underage girls with huge boobs in sexual imagery.

I clearly meant about the mentality of not paying for indies.

Don't try to twist it into other things.

I find that interesting: for the first time indies are now becoming incredibly important for Nintendo because they guarantee that consistent stream of games filling the gaps left by third parties.
It feels to me like your comment is focused on the quantity gap - big third parties not publishing their biggest games on Switch.

But there's also a genre gap - big third parties don't develop the kinds of small(er)-scale games people enjoy playing on Nintendo platforms.

Which platform let you carry your games over? Was this possible on the Xbox 360 or PS3? Will it be possible to carry over your games from PS4 to PS5 and Xbox One to Xbox "Two"? I didn't know that.

Yes, of course.
PC, and you can count on it for the next XBox. PS5 who knows - I did transfer all my games to PS4 Pro when I got it (I forget what the N3DS solution was for this). But at least PlayStation has an account you can use to claim your games as well as save save files. I've just heard way too many stories of people losing everything if their Nintendo console breaks, even though they bought the games online. Nintendo has earned zero trust where digital libraries are concerned.

I'm completing about 1 to 3 eshop games a week and I'm still falling behind on my back log. I don't know how anyone can keep up at this rate.

Of course PC, but consoles are totally different things in that regard.
I really doubt that you will be able to carry over third-party games from the Xbox One to the Xbox Whatever. First-party, perhaps, but we are talking about indie games here.
Of course Nintendo is a bit behind, but that was never my point.

I want every indie to come to Switch.

I used to buy all my indies on PC, but since the Switch released and I can actually bring anywhere there's been far fewer indies I pick up on PC. (mostly because its not on Switch...)

I would actually love it if less things came out, and Nintendo assured us that they were being a strict curator.

It's not Steam or Google Play yet, but it's already getting hard to find things, let alone be sure of quality.

But I guess Nintendo needs to have a busy looking release schedule in between 1st party blockbusters.

I can maybe find 10-15 indies worth playing a year, good luck ninty.
Just looking at the numbers here 20 games a week means 1000 games a year.
lets say 0.1% is masterpiece level
1% is very good
5% is enjoyable/good worth the money
the rest is mediocre/bad

That would mean

1 masterpiece
10 very good games
50 good games

a year.

Not bad if you ask me. The only problem here is discovering the good ones. I usually check out rankings/shop pages for that and follow the e-shop threads.

I welcome this. Yeah, there will be trash like on any online store but i consider having a bigger library to choose from a positive.

Most people just don't want to play 3 eshop game a week tbh

There have been 3 total this year that caught my interest

This is why I think the biggest challenge related to the eshop is discovery of new games. Unless someone only plays AAA games, there is very likely a wealth of content on eshop that they may be completely unaware of.

Still a lot of really great indie games that should be on Switch:

Copy Kitty
THOTH
Khimera (would be free too)
The Eyes of Ara
Monolith
Creepy Castle
HoPiKo
Wuppo
Momodora Reverie
Slime-san
The Magic Circle
The Stanley Parable
OneShot
Victor Vran
Defunct
Bot Vice
Princess Remedy
Handsome Mr. Frog
RUINER
Splasher
Victor Vran is coming out soon and Splasher and Slime-San have been on the Eshop for a while now.

I just saw BroForce and Velocity 2X is coming to Switch. It's catching the Vita library really fast

I only hope that Nintendo improves search functions on the eShop soon.

Give us...
-Star Rankings/Approve-Not Approve Rankings/Buyer Comments
-Being able to see all Top Games (including free ones). Amazing Fortnite is nowhere to be seen because its free...
-A tab on the main page that shows categories of games. Rather than having to do a few clicks to find it.

etc..

It has long surprassed it already. Games like Inside, Hollow Knight, Enter the Gungeon, Overcooked, Rocket League, Owlboy, Celeste, Ikaruga, Sonic Mania, Night in the Woods and Lumines Remastered are not on the Vita.

It's just an increase of about 5-10 games per week above the current release pace.

Success stories will become more and more sparse I guess. You can't publish 20-30 games per week and expect the sales to stay healthy for everyone. - _-

That point has already been reached. There are a few games this year (for example Yoku's Island Express and Runner 3) that would have been much larger success stories if they were released a year ago, when there just a few new indies each week. In general, it now seems like ports of known older indie games have a greater chance of succeeding.

Oh for sure, trust I was already sold when they said they had Rocket League Year 1.

But absorbing the remaining Vita lineup is only a plus

Still pining for What Happened to Edith Finch. The eShop is an embarrassment of riches for new games already, but I hope older games keep coming, too.

So that's uhm, this is from back in February

ps4-vs-xbox-one-vs-switch.png

We are now at day 419. According to Wikipedia there are 1200 games on the Switch. Average 25 games a week, means we would burst out of the ceiling of the chart right around the 500 days mark.

Damn. Such drought, much arid.

Also, in case anyone was wondering what Nintendo's internal teams are doing.. They are working round the clock in certification.

That is true. I'm hoping for Spelunky and its sequel and Guacamelee and its sequel. Undertale is also coming this year, hopefully soon enough. What other big indie titles are missing?

The Switch doesn't currently have 1200 games. That wikipedia page must list announced games or something...

EDIT: When I do a search on currently available Switch games at NoA, I now get 837:
