In the weak and the wounded
That seems exactly the kind of place I would eat at, and Gus seems like the kind of local proprietor I would adore.

Surface level Gus.

Which is kind of scary to think about. I'm usually pretty perceptive about people, but gus.... id never see it.

If I knew? Hell no.

I actually kinda did.
The actual Los Pollos was filmed at Twisters in Albuquerque, which I've eaten at several times (I live ~75 minutes from ABQ). Decent food, but boy is it easy to order way too much.

Obviously (hopefully) it's not a drug dealing front, but I can't say I'd stop eating there if I knew it was.
May I say that this location looks like it was abandoned? Maybe I just need more decorative stuff on the storefront.

Not a fan of fried stuff, so no. And even if I was, if I knew what was going on, I'd like to say I wouldn't.

I've eaten at some sketchy feeling kebab places though that felt like they were used for money laundering

I probably HAVE eaten at criminal-fronted local eateries so what's one more. Gus Fring looks like he runs a tight fuckin' ship over there AND he gave his employees 24-hour overtime!

"Sure it's a front for drug trafficking and the owner is a cold blooded murderer, but the chicken sandwiches are good and the customer service is great, could do without the bible music playing in the background at every location though"

The way Gus does things? You know it's going to be the cleanest, best run fast food place around. That guy runs a tight ship. That meat never gets stored improperly. The grease traps get changed on time.

This thread makes me wonder how many stores/restaurants I've been to that were just a front for something else.

Let me answer your fictional question with a real life chain..

In my city we have 2 mexican chicken chains (one mexican based other one was started in US) it's not fried chicken but grilled chicken and it's pretty damn delicious. Pollo Feliz and Chicken Nuevo (sidenote: I never counted them before but between both of these chains they have 8+ restaurants in my city!). The sides are not american style (i.e. not mashed potato or mac 'n cheese), which I'll be honest not a big fan of the rice but they're still worth trying/eating. The Pollos Hermano's chickens look eerily similar to the Chicken Nuevo logo...

Knowing that it was a front, no. But if all I saw was on the surface, then yes. Gus was a very attentive owner and exceptionally polite to his guests.

I'm curious too, don't forget all the Chinese or Japanese, etc. restaurants. If TV/movies or videogames taught me anything, some of these are likely owned by the Yakuza.

How did Gus even have time to work two full time jobs? It seemed like he was always at the fast food restaurant as the manager. But he had time to go from that to his drug lab at the washing machine place, then had time to go on the road to those shady trailers to conduct drug deals, and then had time to go home and cook himself his special food?

This question dont make sense because you would eat it knowing its from a fictional tv show? And if I was an Albuquerque citizen living in the fictional breaking bad universe how would I know its a drug empire front?

If I lived in the BB universe, I probably wouldn't know it was a front. I'd eat there.

Are you people not familiar with hypothetical scenarios and thought exercises? Here, the first sentence of the OP:

Knowing it was a front for a drug operation in New Mexico, and that Gustavo and all his workers were killers, murderers, drug dealers and generally evil people.

Could you justify in good conscience eating their chicken?

How would I know?
Because that would effect my decision.

Hell yeah I love Zaxbys. If Los Pollos had their version of a kickin' chicken sandwich I'd be down.

I've already enjoyed the fried, tainted faith of Chik-Fil-A, so what's a little bit of drug empire funding.

Well, that's considered irrelevant to the hypothetical scenario proposed by the OP. But, allowing this caveat, why would it affect your decision?

If i worked for gus i wouldent mind, but if worked with hank it would.
If i was one of jessie friends I would eat there to.

Like in real life if I knew there was a drug front I would alert the authorities and not support the business.
But im a fan of breaking bad and I would love to eat at pollos.

Sure! I love picking human flesh out of my teeth after eating out. (even if it wasn't, I wouldn't be able to shake the possibility out of my head)

No I wouldn't eat at los pollos hermanos!

Depends. If I didn't know they were a drug front, then yes. My goal in life is to eat at every Mexican place at least once.

If I did know...depends on how good the chicken is. I loved me some El Pollo Loco back when I lived near one (chicken and cole slaw burritos all day!)...

I would. i'm not putting my life in danger to snitch out a multimillion dollar drug business. I'd just eat the chicken and be on my way.

I always thought the chicken looked good

Knowing murder is the secret spice would be a bit of a turnoff

I just don't think it's a very interesting thought experiment if you're allowed to bring your out-of-game knowledge to the table, because I could simply apply the same morals I do to everything and call it a day with a simple 'no' . A better question would be:

If you had lived there and grown up with Los Pollos chicken, then found out it was a front, would you continue eating there?

Yes!! Not only that, I would love to meet Gus! He seems like a nice person. He only killed Gangsters on the show and he saved Hanks life. Even the managers seemed cool on Better call Saul.
