What percentage do you need to get the best ending? I am at 99% right now.

What do you still need Geo for in the end game? I have 19k Geo and I am not sure if there is anything left to buy.

Thanks!

So I've read about the game having several endings in this thread, from my understanding the best way to not miss endings would be to do the "regular" final boss when possible and then work from that to the other endings, "true last boss" and DLC endings stuff, right?

There's a Geo sink, so to speak, related to the Grimm Troupe DLC. You don't need any specific percentage for the Good Ending, you just need to certain specific things.

I think the only Geo-expensive thing is buying permanent versions of the breakable charms.

As for "best ending", it's
unrelated to % completion. It rather depends on getting a special item and fighting a "true" final boss.

Really pains me to say I will probably never finish this game and it's entirely due to the bosses .

Dying over and over to bosses is so frustrating and it's been a long time where a game has made me so angry .

It's a shame because I absolutely love everything else about this game . Maybe I need to get a pro controller because I often feel like I'm going to break these damn thumb sticks.

I have about 4 different bosses I had to give up and do something else just because they kick my ass so much.
Now I'm stuck in this damn soul sanctum boss and I know I need to beat him to access some new areas .

I understand the frustration. Summoning in Dark Souls was always a good way for less patient/adept players to bypass areas they were banging their head against. It allowed for some degree of flexibility which reduced frustrating parts for a lot of people. Hollow Knight has nothing of the sort and while it does have the advantage of making victories feel that much more earned, it also alienates a ton of people in the process.

I'm now picturing what a co-op Hollow Knight would look like.

You can leave that boss for later if you don't feel up to it. Have you upgraded your weapon yet? What charms do you have? What other bosses are giving you trouble?

Charms and upgrades help. I had lots of trouble with Watcher Knight. Finally gave up. Found the resources to upgrade my nail, found some charms, and beat their ass. The right charms allow for tanking of bosses that you have a hard time learning patterns. Don't get me wrong, it'll never be a cake walk, but you can reduce difficulty dramatically.

Mantis bosses , hornet boss 2 , soul sanctum warrior (second phase with those damn floaty blobs). There is just no time to heal .

I have found a number of nail art teaches and I have tons of different charms but most require overloading which just means I die quicker . I will take a break and try again later .

Grubsong is a permanent stay and for bosses thorns is usually always on as well.

Finally got around to finishing off the white palace and finding the rest of the grubs. I have one more thing to buy from the charm slot lady and I believe one more mask piece to find before I think I'm calling it and heading towards the true end. I have 100% and change.

What is the difference procedure wise between the 2nd and 3rd ending? From what I'm reading the prerequisites are the same. Do you just have a choice at the end if you want to fight the true final boss or not?

Thumb sticks? I really don't think you're supposed to be playing this with analog sticks.

What bosses are giving you trouble? We'd probably be able to give you some hints. The one you mention at Soul Sanctum I presume is Soul Master.

That guy can be really annoying since you can reach him very early with access to few charms and abilities.

But the main thing in that fight is getting the pattern down to avoid damage. Many of these fights are way easier if you take it slow and don't get greedy trying to deal damage st all costs if it means dying. When I played it I:

Went to the opposite corner when he was throwing fireballs and just dodged them. Not worth trying to damage him here since you'll occasionally have to dodge the same ball twice when they loop around you.

Consistently landed a pogo hit (downward slash while jumping over enemy) whenever he rushed to my side.

Sometimes got an upward slash while jumping through his "clock" attack.

It can be really hard to heal in that fight without later-game charms like Quick Focus and Shape of Unn so the main thing is learning to avoid damage, even if it means a slow slow fight.

Pretty much, yeah.
You fight the final boss (the one that's in every ending), then something happens, and you don't do what the game is telling you to do, so to speak.

So the way you get the three endings is:

1. Just beat Hollow Knight
2. Get Void and then beat Hollow Knight
3. Get Void and use Dream Nail on Hollow Knight while Hornet holds him down so you can reach the "true" final boss

Look up where you can get pale ore and get that nail upgraded as high as you can. Also, find Salubra in Forgotten Crossroads and buy notches for your charms. The more charms you have, the more notches you can buy.

Just got done beating the final boss. Wow, that was tense and I was visibly shaking at the end.

This is without a doubt my favorite game of the year and maybe even the generation.

Ok this is driving me crazy, I need help filling in what I assume is a very inconsequential part of the map.

There's an edge at the end of the hallway connecting Fungal Wates and City of Tears that just won't fill in for me. Based on images of the map online, there should be a way past the wall but I just can't figure it out.

Are you talking about a hall between the two areas? That is, the one that opens to the elevator shaft? I wasn't aware this doorway could be opened (I figured it was meant to stay sealed). Can you point out where online you saw the map images? I would like to compare my own.

Well, I finished the true last boss yesterday. All I can say is screw that boss. It's way too luck based, and seemingly based on which move he uses at what time. I can't tell you how many times I died in the platform phase because I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Anyway, it's finally done. I really do love this game, but some of the bosses really are annoying. It definitely takes the game down a notch (haha, see what I did there). If this was Souls, I'd just summon, but alas.

Apart from that, it's still my game of the year. That's how good the rest of the game is.

I took off the sharp shadow charm for the final boss. It's unnecessary for that fight IMO. Sharp shadow is amazing for the watch tower knights though. I'd take off long nail too. Quick slash is fine. The shadow dash is important here.

The most dangerous things are the homing projectile and horizontal spears. Focus on dodging those.

Make sure you get all the charm slot upgrades. There should be 8, which makes the total 11 (I think).

I equipped alot of soul-based charms for this fight. Damage and soul-increasing. I spammed abyss shriek since it's useful for the final boss. The raining swords phase is a good chance to heal up. Learn to dodge comfortably with the shadow dodge.

To those who recommend I go away and upgrade my nail Holy shit does it make a difference .

I totally forgot I even had 2 pale ores in my inventory so upgraded twice and took down the boss first try.

Feels like a whole new game now . I've been wandering around for hrs with a non upgraded nail when I could have been slaying everyone .

So I had 8,800 geo, grinding to 9,000 to I can get an unbreakable charm. I made an attempt at Radiance, died, then decided to give NKG a crack while completely forgetting to collect my shade again beforehand. Obviously he destroys me, and I realize what has just happened right after it reloads. And of course, it autosaves all this shit. Yeah I'm done with this game, I was excited about at least getting enough geo to get some unbreakable charms, but there's no point anymore. It's utterly ridiculous how easy it is to lose all one's currency with zero chance for recovery just by a tiny brain fart. Needlessly cruel and pointless. I have no motivation anymore to even attempt either of the final bosses.

Couple that with fragile strength and quick slash and you'll be a god. Spend the geo and upgrade it to unbreakable strength to prevent it from breaking.

Sorry if this been asked before, but I wanna go in completely dark and scared of spoiling anything :)

Should I play this game docked or undocked on Switch? I'm after a game that I can play on the "on the go" during vacation.

It's very easy to farm geo. Go to the Colosseum of Fools and do the second trial (Trial of the Conqueror).

  • It takes less than 5 minutes to do
  • Not that hard (it's fun actually)
  • You get to practice your skills
  • You get 2000 geo

You can get 10,000 geo in less than 30 minutes.

No gimmicky charms. Just use nail charms (Quick Slash, Mark of Price, Unbreakable Strength, Nailmaster's Glory) and kick some ass. Easy geo.

I played the game completely in undocked mode. I got 107% in portable mode, using the Switch's gamepad (no analog stick). No problems at all... I even did the Path of Pain entirely with the joycons and didn't have problems with the controls.

I've played both method and they're all great. Sometimes there are Sound glitches when docked but only with cutscenes with NPC. I dont know if i'm the only one.

40 hours, 100% with only the Nightmare King Grimm boss, The Radiance, Trial of the Fool, White Palace (I just simply cannot do it. I really sucked at Super Meat Boy too) and two or three Dreamer bosses remaining.

I am not overly sure if collecting all of those idols and seals make up an extra percent?

Quite happy to leave this alone until the new DLC comes out later in the year.

My only complaint is the amount of backtracking in certain areas where the Stagways are just too far away, or the maze-like environments in Deep Nest makes it a chore to return to.

It also feels like a game that doesn't always respect the time you put into it, and requires intense focus in the odd place or two. I couldn't possibly leave this game alone in fear that I would forget what I am doing and where I am supposed to go next...

All in all, Team Cherry are now on my radar, and is only second to God of War this year IMO.

Is it definitely known that the Hornet story is all-new content?

No boss in this game is unfair. Some of them are hard as balls, but they have reliable tells that reward memorization and reflexes. Beating the Traitor Lord probably took twenty tries but it's a 60 second walk back which is generous by Souls standards. In fact, I would say that Hollow Knight is exemplary in the Souls genre for having no enemies that stink of cheap challenges. Even the deadliest normal enemies are legitimately challenging without relying on a very annoying gimmick.

Now, the Path of Pain platforming? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that.

It's the long hallway after the gate, below the area where you can find the whispering root. At the very end, before you drop down into the rainy part. There's an explosive bat there for reference.

Pro controller helps immensely! Totally worth the investment.

I was kind of in the same boat as you, where certain parts of the game were just too daunting. The nice part about this game is that every single progression-blocking boss can be facetanked or cheesed with the right builds. Soul Master is probably the last "difficult" required boss you have to defeat through actual skill, although certain charms and tactics can make it much easier.

You can see the 3 endings on the same save file. But you need to finish the game first with the bad ending. If you get the Void Heart, you will not be able to see the bad ending.

  • Ending 1: Beat Hollow Knight without Void Heart
  • Ending 2: Beat Hollow Knight with Void Heart
  • Ending 3: Use the Dream Nail against Hollow Knight (with Void Heart)

First thing is first im in my game looking at my map and it has some very slight differences. This map may be from a previous verison of the game. But 99.9 % of it is the same. I just want some clarification since im having a hard time pinpointing exactly where you are talking about. Is this near city storerooms? You said connecting to fungal wastes of which there is only one way. the gate next to the elevator on the west side cannot be opened to the elevator shaft to mantis village. the whispering root is right below city storerooms and below that is a long hall to the statue of Hegemol who guards the gate. you open this with the city crest. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to fill this in normally.

Traitor Lord you son of a bitch!

He is not that tough, I was so tired last night trying to go at him I needed to take a break for today and try it again.

What charms are you going with for this bastard?

How easy is it to avoid getting the item that locks out the bad ending? Like, I'm the type who likes to explore as much as possible before beating the game, so will I just happen to get it and hose myself?

Its very easy to avoid. if you go and fight the boss at the time the game more or less tells you that you are able to you will get the first ending and after that you cannot lock yourself out of anything.

Edit: oops i meant its not easy to lock yourself out.

Very easy to avoid. You need to purposely get it. You need to:

Get the Kingsoul charm (by finishing the White Palace) and then going to the Abyss and Dream Nailing yourself in the egg-mirror thing.
