Guy was a weirdo. That's mostly what anyone is saying about him.

Why aren't you simply satisfied with them already agreeing with you the woman should be fired?
They aren't tho they are side stepping most of this, to somewhat try to justify the lady while condemning her

Hey what she did was wrong but come on guys? You get why she did it right come on he had on socks

You know the pool is full of urine, right?

Also, I'd bet nobody actually showers before getting in the pool. A few clean freaks, maybe.

My mother in law showers EVERY time before she gets in my sister in law's pool. Says it keeps her colored hair from turning green from the chlorine. I'm unconvinced.

Shouldn't the idea of racism and calling the cops on innocent people trying to live their lives be more repulsive to you?

I dont understand how you read this story and come away more angry about fucking socks in a pool than the blatant racism
Nah, it's the people totally being fine with street cloths (especially socks) in this thread that I primarily commented on.

She is a bigot. Socks are still don't ok in the pool. I don't understand what the one thing has to do with the other. Just because socks shouldn't be in a pool doesn't mean one it's ok with how the lady behaved. The latter is unanimously agreed upon here, but the former isn't. So it makes sense to talk about that.

I say street clothing (and socks in particular) have no place in a pool. FOR EVERYONE. White, black, old, young, mexican, european or whatever. Period. The one who is doing mental gymnastics is you, but holy shit by how much, to come to that conclusion.

nice job quoting the rest of my post. i said that unlike in your fantasy, there are many many many people that dont follow your rules. they arent getting the cops called on them. no matter what you try to say, a cop was called on a black couple for wearing fucking socks. when there were white people wearing shirts at. that. same. pool.

Get it in your head.

Socks should be banned. Wtf are they wearing socks in the pool. That should be an police-enforced offense. My head can't grasp why you'd wear socks in a pool. That's utterly disgusting. Get sandals or sprint if you can't handle the hot stone. But I don't want your nasty ass socks in my pool.

It makes sense for you in your mind to talk about socks concerning the larger picture of racism? Lol

More repulsive then racism?
I think we all agree that racism is unacceptable (at least I would hope so) and agree that the offender was rightfully punished. There really isn't much to discuss if we all feel the same way.

On the other hand, we obviously don't all have the same opinion regarding socks in a pool.

I dont think we should give oxygen to the justification she used to be racist

I'm glad the manager got fired, but I don't give a shit how hot it is, don't wear socks in a fucking pool. Wet socks are like the worst fucking feeling in the world. If you got flip flops then wear them in the pool if you're worried about scorching your feet. OR, you know, put them next to the stairs at the pool so you can put them on when you get out of the water.

Everywhere I go and at every place during my journeys, there is a strict "shower first" policy - enforced by the lifeguard on premise. If they catch you, you can get banned from the pool. I haven't seen anyone wearing street clothes in my life either, but I haven't been to a pool in the US yet, and if you guys get in without showering and wearing socks, I actually don't want to.

My folks used to manage apartment complexes when I was growing up, and we lived on site. Many had pools, and in my experience, hardly anyone used those showers before entering the pool. They were mostly used after someone was done swimming, to rinse the chlorine water off their body/hair, or dirt off their feet before putting their shoes back on.

I've asked multiple times and nobody has told me why socks are any worse than other articles of clothing if we're assuming people are dirty.

I'm sure there's a reason their post history is hidden I'm not gonna say it but I'm certain it's very "suspect"
Yes, otherwise you'd have seen my post from 2 months about about socks:

I hate socks. I doff them the first chance I get when I'm at home. Never wear them unless I go out. I'd ban socks if I could.

Other than that, I got like 50 pairs of black socks. Only 2 different types tho, so I can always just grab blindly into my drawer and get matching ones.

wearing socks in the pool is disgusting but it's not cause for calling the cops for, lol

but socks are gross, it is advised to take a shower before entering for a reason.

I'll probably cause some severe vomiting here judging by the reactions about socks but I don't know a single person that showers right before using the pool.

I might, if I swim early seeing as how I showered when I got up.

Most I know shower only after swimming in a public pool.

A guy is there. If he notices you aren't wet coming out of the changing rooms, you prolly didn't shower. Of course there isn't one watching you shower or something, but that's usually enough to get people to shower, because you could get caught. It's the same how public fares work over here. There is no one that enforces you to get a ticket, but there are random checks every now and then and if you are caught you have to pay big. I dunno why people even question this, normally people just do it, because it's the expected thing to do.

They think they will be one of the ones that get away with it. Seeing stories like this and seeing these assholes loose their jobs make me so happy. It could only be better if it happened during the recession where finding a replacement would be even more difficult.

Yeah, it's completely different here. Many places don't even have a shower available, and it's certainly not enforced.

I remember that thread a while back where someone in Sweden or wherever was talking about going to a public pool and it was some old dude's job to watch your naked ass while you shower to make sure you did a good job. But that was for a natural hot spring or something. I can see how it's different. In the US it is absolutely no big deal if you don't shower before the pool. It's certainly not any more or less "disgusting" than other things that are going on in that water.

http://bittersoutherner.com/nashville-pools-jim-crow/

In the summer of 1961, two young African-American men decided to go swimming at one of Nashville's municipal pools — one that was reserved by Jim Crow for whites only. Days later, the city closed all its public pools — and left them shut for three years. Today, come with us to meet the men who first tried to integrate Nashville's public pools — and explore the legacy of Jim Crow that still lingers over every public pool in the South 50 years later.

I've literally never seen this happen at any public pool. And I've been to some pretty nice ones.

OH.. You've never been to a public pool in the U.S., well then.

Aqua socks or shoes. If you just came from your apartment please for the love of god don't put your damn socks in the pool. I dunno why but that's pretty strange/gross.

Then don't. In the last few years, the pool I go for swimming in my city or on my vacations, everyone I notice does it. I actually went into a hotel pool without showing once, because I didn't find them (foreign country and couldn't read the signs, they were kinda far way) and what did you know, a guy approached me in polish and then in broken english to tell me to get the fuck out and take a shower. I asked him where and he showed me.

I did shower in my room just before (just came from the beach and just ate something), but I gladly obliged.

There are much worse things than not showering immediately after being in a chlorine-filled pool. Get a grip.
Of course there are worse things. Don't put words into mouth. It's still filthy and backwards so I am really not surprised about all these stupid hygiene threads on here all the time.

I keep my pool socks extra clean so racists don't call the po po on me.

Funny that people don't know that there is actual pool footwear and think that this is the craziest thing.

I can only suggest to ignore them so you can continue having a conversation with those focused on the racism angle.

Anyone who veers into defending that weirdness with hygene is ridiculous but the value in even addressing those that don't go that far is limited imo.
