As for who they could go up against, I've actually thought about this before. If they were to bring back Roth as Abomination for this, what better place to finally tie up one of the longest running loose ends in the MCU?
I think canonically (in the tie-in comics) The Leader was captured by Widow and then escaped after the SHIELD HYDRA twist? Would be cool to see that on film.

Oh, I didn't mean because of The Snap, I meant like, in general throughout the franchise up to Infinity War.

So do I. I'm just guessing but i think A4 will somehow undue everything, all kinds of history. Plus we have Never seen the Real "Mandarin " or "Leader " and we know they both exist in the MCU

With some clever writing, I think there is a way to bring back Killmonger in a way that fans could accept and by putting him on the Thunderbolts, it could give him a path to redemption that would have otherwise been awkward trying to accomplish in the Black Panther films (where he'd kind of have to be like Loki in Thor TDW) and instead would free up the Black Panther films to have him spend more time connecting with his family he never knew and the country he always had heard stories about but never got to really experience. Besides, while I think his death is the end he wanted, it seems it would have put him in the same position as his father in the Astral Plane, separated from all the rest of their family, and I think it would be important for T'Challa to attempt to heal those wounds and bridge those gaps in the living world to correct for the sins his father made. At least, I think there is something potentially interesting there by finding a way to keep Killmonger alive (and then joining the Thunderbolts).

I also would be down for a villain-turned-hero to be part of the team like Bucky or Wanda, heroes with a "past" like Scott or Nat, or even someone like Hawkeye as Ronin potentially heading down a different path than he's been on previously.

I think at that point you got a pretty solid team that could form the basis of a film:
- Thunderbolt Ross/Red Hulk or Abomination
- Zemo
- Ghost
- Killmonger (still with the power of the heart-shaped herb)
- Bucky or Ronin
- then maybe one new villain like Songbird or Moonstone

I get where you're coming from, but you gotta announce your films in production years out. Stealth isn't a great tactic for massive blockbuster hype.
But it doesn't need to be a decade out. And no all of them gotta be revealed. Maybe announce the known heroes but keep the new guys in the back pocket.

It'd be fun to see them play around with it more like they did with the fake "Serpent Society" title. Although, y'know, make the deception last more than like five minutes.

But overall I'd be surprised if they don't announce a full slate for Phase 4. It's worked quite well so far for building anticipation, and they have no reason to change tactics.

That stuff would leak out to the press before any announcement. We already know about Black Widow and Eternals before Marvel have had any chance of formally announcing them.

X-Men is too good of a property for the MCU.

Yes, if only the MCU could live up to films such as X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: Apocalypse, New Mutants (which is coming out in August 2019 -- two years after it finished filming, which is always a great sign) or Dark Phoenix (a "not too intergalactic" take on the Dark Phoenix saga -- from the same writer as The Last Stand).

The property is simply too good for the MCU.

Given all the release date reshuffling after the October 2014 event, and the possibility of their plans shifting significantly to accommodate the Fox properties, I don't think you'll see Marvel Studios announcing films four and a half years ahead of time again. I doubt whatever they announce next year will go beyond 2022, and it's possible they won't even go that far ahead.

Even Black Panther 2 is something Marvel has said they want eventually and Doctor Strange 2 has been hinted at as well.

That is potentially the first 2 years of "Phase 4" already "leaked": Spider-Man Far From Home, GotG3, Black Widow, Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2, and Eternals.

I don't know comics but I just want a movie that is over the top psychedelic, inter-dimensional wildness. Hopefully Strange 2 is closer to that.

Damn, that's right! I forgot about that.

Sterns' mutation went wild, and his brain power incremented exponentially. He was found by Natasha Romanoff, who had a brief dialogue with him, during which Sterns identified Black Widow's birth place from a hint of accent in her voice. Sterns then attempted to bribe her, promising he would help her come back to Stalingrad and share his vision with hers, but Widow shot him the leg and subsequently placed him into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody.

That would actually be the perfect backstory to introduce him back into the films: S.H.I.E.L.D. took him into custody after Incredible Hulk but after it fell, he ended up making it back into the world. (Or perhaps was held onto by a Hydra sect for a while.)

Lol, that's why there are only two good X movies out of their entire existence.

It's not so much about past films, but rather the subject matter and characters that are rich in story-telling potential. I mean, christ, could the humour-centric MCU ever start a film with a scene from Auschwitz and convey racial undertones as well as X-Men could? The closest they ever got was Killmonger, and he made him into a moustache-twirling clown at the end.

Are they announcing Meg Man, Spiderman, Ryu, and Wolverine teaming up to take on Onslaught? Is the dream dead?

They've proven they can handle mature subject matter in the "humor-centric MCU" with Black Panther. We know this already.

The closest they ever got was Killmonger, and he made him into a moustache-twirling clown at the end.

So, you mean like Magneto in the X-Men films?

A Thunderbolts movie doesn't strictly have to be based on the most famous Thunderbolts members.

We have General Ross to order its creation, Zemo to lead it, and Ghost is a classic member. It'd be a good excuse to bring Abomination back as the muscle member, even though he was never specifically a Thunderbolt the MCU version would fit into the team quite nicely. And you could easily introduce a few additional villains on top of that. Do we desperately need to know the origins for Beetle/Mach, Fixer, or Songbird? And if you're willing to play it loose with the comics membership, Batroc already exists in the MCU. You could do Anton Vanko as the Crimson Dynamo, if they just recast or do a voice-alike and never show him outside the armor. It'd be a good opportunity to bring in Taskmaster as a sort of drill sergeant for the team.

Thunderbolts is almost guaranteed down the road, just don't expect that every member of the team will be a member from the comics, or be previously introduced in the MCU. Assuming Zemo and Ross are the effective leads of the film, it's fine to have a bunch of smaller players without origin movies.
It's almost guaranteed it won't be a comic lineup as they've stayed pretty much to their own thing in the movies.

The way I see it we could have Zemo, Abomination, Ghost, and a few the film could introduce. I'd almost say Vulture would be perfect if I wasn't sure they're setting up Sinister Six for the Spider-Man threequel.

Add in Ross as the scheming mastermind that forces the team together then eventually becomes the antagonist as Red Hulk later on down the line, and baby, you've got a stew going.

Oh also, Gunn wants to do Thunderbolts and after making megabucks with Guardians they'll let him do whatever. Oh and also you just know they want to do a better Suicide Squad than Suicide Squad.
