They could have edited it. But I guess it wasn't important to the overall narrative so they just said "not worth it"
It wasn't like the Legend of Dratini episode where Ash caught 30 Taurus and for English speakers they just showed up out of nowhere.
Or that Team Plasma two-parter that was meant to conclude a storyline Team Rocket was doing but got banned worldwide following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

The dub has gotten so poor over the last few years I don't even think most people care. I'm surprised Disney XD still keeps it around.

One day I hope FUNimation would get the Pokemon anime licensed and redub it from the start.

Avoided. And silly, that's not black face (and the context puts it in the clear). Can't blame them for not airing, however. It's close enough that controversy is all but guaranteed. Better to avoid the controversy, Pokemon ain't worth tarnishing your rep or affecting the bottom line.

At least Toei has limited Popo's appearances in Super. Only having cameos.

I didn't make the connection when I first saw screenshots of the episode, but it's understandable that they're playing things safe, given the issues with blackface they've had in the past.

The episode is not banned in the US. The network or studio may have decided not to air it but that is not the same thing.

While maybe not necessary, the fact that the localization team caught this themselves versus letting it air then having to deal with some potential controversy is itself mildly impressive. So good job!

Yeah that's pretty inoffensive, especially when you're given the context of other costume parts aswell as the original pokemon screen.

They actually dubbed that episode later on in the 4Kids era but that scene was cut and the episode itself only aired once and never again IIRC.

There was another episode that prominently featured Jynx that got banned (before she was redesigned to be purple).
The ones after that were ones that were planned but never aired in Japan due to earthquakes so they never got dubbed.

Apparently TPC still does some music replacement. Like getting rid an image song for some generic ass shit.
And it bothers me that "Zolo" is still a thing. Fucking 4Kids...

Funny story, my brother got a Japanese VHS import of Pokémon from a comic shop that had the Pikachu short that was attached to the first movie and the Jynx Christmas special and we couldn't understand a word of it, but it at least had subtitles. It may have been a fansub or something like that.

And if I remember correctly, they did actually dub that episode but it was never released on DVD.

Don't like it. I'm unconvinced that anyone would've considered it an example of blackface (or even make the connection in the first place) if they didn't call attention to it.

Question - who called attention to "it"? The OP's link provides no actual sourcing and a cursory Google search turns up similarly shoddy reporting.

That said, I could understand why they would skip it, especially considering it's airing on Disney now.
