After the Thanos snap and 50% disintegrated, how do you think Earth responded to it? How well do you think governments, countries, everyday people were able to function after everything went down? Do you think parts of Earth went back to almost dark-age like status due to the loss of people and those able to complete functions of society?

It will be literal anarchy. Groups will see the opportunity in the lack of leadership and take over communities, cities, and even some cases, countries.

Spider-Man 2 is supposed to take place just a few minutes after all that, right? So assuming it all gets reversed, life will probably go on like it never happened.

Bro yall crazy.

If it were me, it'd be fantastic. I could go to Disney and Universal Studios with only 50% of the lines.

Not only that more than 50% died, lets say the pilot of an airplane got ashed, that plane is crashing and those people dying. Oh heart surgery doctor, ash that person is dead
Driving down the 495 at 200 mph You got ashed giant car accidents.

If anything 53% of the population is dead

Lots of job opportunities though. The real question is how does the earth or universe in general respond to the fact the thing that could easily do it again is still out there. I mean thats the real fear.

I mean, I don't know how anything but total Cosmic discord immediately take place. It's not just super-smart sentient beings that are being erased, right? It's entire ecosystems that are having their legs cut out from under them across the entire universe.

The chemical physics process of life itself, in trillions upon trillions of star systems, is torn apart in an instant. Mammals, fish, birds, insects, single-celled organisms... Maybe Thanos is obsessed with balance, but not everything works on a 1:1 scale where wiping out 50 percent of all life leads to a functioning reality.

Hopefully work is cancelled because only 50% of our workforce showed up. After that, I'd just assume everyone is on their Purge-type shit at the moment.

well besides from planes and helicopteres falling from the skies, and massive fires, gas leaks, etc from lack of proper staff members. I'm sure we wil be fine.

Except since no one knows why it happens, there will be mass panic and hysteria. But at least there would be plenty of food?

I think it's only sentient life

Things break down when 1 important person dies.

HALF the world's leaders are dead . HALF its intellectuals. HALF its professionals - half the doctors, half the nurses, half the surgeons.
Half your family is dead .The trauma from that alone will be catastrophic. Half the world's pets, vaporized. Half the players in the NBA, Premier league, NFL, Major league, gone. Is LeBron dead? There goes the Laker's season, forget everyone else.

Thanos ' snap instantly sends us back to the industrial age. Those who aren't dead suffer from PTSD. Trillions of man hours lost in an instant. It would take months just for us to COMPREHEND the scope of the calamity.

More still will die from the civil unrest. Ever see the purge? Half the police force is dead. Walk onto that ice and receive your judgment.

What's worse is that the timeline is forever fucked, the heroes might fix it but they will just branch off into another timeline and things will be cool for them while everyone else continues on in that fucking hellscape.

The existential paranoia would lead to mass suicides. Every emotionally vulnerable person on the planet is likely to lose someone close to them. Families and marriages would be torn asunder.

Seriously, people aren't ready to believe that something so powerful could exist and not be God. Even in a world filled with supers and aliens. A good chunk of the planet would worship Thanos after the Avengers explained what had happened. And a bigger chunk wouldn't believe at all, and turn towards a traditional religion to explain. Zealots would increase ww.

There would be riots, looting, a (temporary?) breakdown of government as many world leaders and countless local officials would be gone. Schools would close, sports leagues would breakdown, new entertainment would cease aside from mostly news and talk shows. Some nuts (and some gangs, and even some governments) would use the opportunity to disappear undesirables from their midst.

Roads and public transportation would be unusable for months after the numbers of car, bus, train accidents occurring simultaneously.

Thanos talks about a utopia forming but we'd still be 3.5 billion people living in a walking nightmare. It would take decades to recover from.

Spidey 2 is supposed to take place (probably start) minutes after the conclusion of Avengers 4, so whatever resolution they'll come to will be done by then, most likely everyone effected by the snap will be restored.

As for the OP. I can imagine literal chaos and anarchy, especially considering half the population disappearing would also include people in real power. Presidents, generals, military specialists, spies etc.

Probably military lockdowns everywhere.

Martial law. Riots breaking out, rampant looting until it's shut down by the military/national guard.

It's hard to say. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to who was gone so I think some communities would fair better than others as far as maintaining essential personnel to their infrastructure. Those communities would ultimately tow the line and restart the fire. It would be a hard road though.

There are plenty of services that look big enough that one would think could keep up with the survivors operating them, but a good number of those technicians required to keep electrical power, etc will just plain refuse to even work if they just saw their kids, significant others, parents disappear. The Mourning period will kill several other millions of people as modern infrastructure refuses to go back to normal in time.

This is not how random works.
