Me and my bud (GameStop manager) was just talking about this. Frankly, I understand that Fortnite is a phenomenon. But my position/ stance is (while the game has grown on me) Fortnite feels like the beginning of the end of traditional gaming as a whole and for that I hate it, but I understand. He says that most of the kids these days just come in to buy money cards; psn, iOS, Xbox, eshop.. all of em. This trend is just gonna spawn more and more of these games.

My opinion, now, is console Xplay/ console Xprogession is new territory for everybody, even for MS and Nintendo. It's only a matter of time before Sony gives in, they have too.
But for right now, im just too invested into psn to throw it away. I go all in on things I want, i didn't buy an Xbox until I was able to buy the console plus all the exclusives and gold.

And, I am not fake on here. Everything I say about myself is thruth, no hypotheticals and lies about what may happen if this were the case BS. I like all systems and for that this hasn't hurt that much. But for the people it did I "empathize" and hope they find a solution soon.

The issue isn't even just Cross Play.

I have twitch Prime. All my skins would work with Switch Xbox PC ect. However because my Epic account is tied to a PSN aswell I lose all my skins if I want to unlink it

MS has studios dedicated entirely to only 1 franchise.
This is also good btw; many people love Fable, Gears of War, Halo and Forza. Those titles are why people stuck with MS, and bought an Xbox One in 2013 and the following years... The most expensive, least powerful system. But still, the Halo and Fable system. That was enough for millions of people.

I realise what Sony is doing though;
-like the cross progression thing which they think makes them money in the long run
-creating 'game of the year- bait', year after year (multiple times a year even), supporting the most creative projects, is only because that makes them money in the long run.

While I applauded the use of a female, non sexualised, ginger, protagonist; I now realise (also thanks to you guys) that Sony is only in it for the money.
Horizon Zero Dawn would have starred a bald Gears-esque space marine, going back in time to kill Obama if that concept made Sony more money.

Merely to contrast the forward thinking games like HZD with a non sexualized, independent woman.

People might love Sony for that, as I did myself, but greed is ultimately what drives Sony, not ethics.

Which is why the worst possible, most vile game, going back in time to kill a Nobel prize winner for Peace, could also be on the table of that brought in more money.

I'm also not in the 'screw Sony' camp, at least not in a serious long term capacity. It's really easy to say that in the heat of any given moment – hell, I'm guilty of it myself – but long term, we need Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. Each of these companies have some serious positives, as well as serious faults. If they didn't exist, there wouldn't be any competition, and without competition, we wouldn't see such wonderful things happen.

As far as being invested in a platform this late in the game though, that's understandable. However, I've never been a digital copy kind of guy, so I don't really have anything invested. I prefer physical copies, and on that front, Microsoft is on point. It really is having me sort of pre-decide that next -gen, my first console choice will likely be the Xbox 'Scarlet'. If Sony goes all in and allows backwards compatibility with PS3 and PS4 and whatnot, then maybe I'll have an actual decision to consider, but as of now, Sony's harmful choices and their refusal to do any sort of backwards compatibility on their platform forces my hand.

Gaming trends as of late… I tend to agree with you and what Fortnite is doing for the landscape. I mean, Fortnite isn't the problem… it's just an evolution of it, right? This 'mobile gaming' business model has existed for a long time and noooooobody took the concern of 'mobile gaming will one day flood over into console gaming' seriously… and now here we are. Fortnite is basically a mobile game that's meant to be played on PC and consoles. And that's the kind of stuff my son likes to play… outside of Minecraft, he's really big on Roblox, which is more a gaming platform than a game, and there's a ton of ways to waste real world money on stuff for your character's avatar or for perks in the games the platform hosts. And you know what the sad part is? Because kids spend more time playing that stuff than playing with physical toys, the investment, financially, seems to make a lot of sense. They'll use those character skins way longer than they'll use a toy, you know?

It's going to be really interesting to see what happens now. Everyone in the industry pushed all the abusive business models to the brink and now there's thread after thread and story after story of backlash and political involvement, etc. We're currently in Deadwood as it's on the verge of being placed under political control, just like everywhere else in the country. The wild west is slowly, but surely coming to an end. Of course, that makes way for new frontiers to be forged and explored… some for good, some for bad. Such is the story of business, I guess.

You have to realise people were actually affected by this in terms of the account lock, unlike with MS where their shitty plan that didn't go into effect. That's why people are really unhappy over Sony. They've taken ownership of things we've bought elsewhere and are now telling us we can't use those purchases where we want to.

I was really pissed at the time because of it. I was basically going on a trip not long after the Switch version came out, and because I dared try the PS4 version at some point I can't take advantage of any of my PC purchases on the Switch to enjoy while I'm away. That's fucked up, and that's why people were saying fuck Sony etc. Like if something affects you personally in a fucked up way, you're obviously going to be very annoyed at the perpetrator. Which in this case is Sony.

Logic doesn't play into anything when it comes to things like this.

I think, and I might be wrong, that there's maybe a few different lines of thinking related to what 'Fuck Sony' means. I've never seen it as some big boycott whenever someone's said it. I would gladly say Fuck Sony related to this issue. They can fuck right off, they're wrong. That doesn't mean I'm not buying a PS5 and it doesn't mean I'm selling my PS4. But still, fuck Sony. I'm shocked Sony hasn't made any moves yet... least of which letting Epic free the account for PSN if players decide to.

They really are just trying to weather the storm but it's not going away. With every new crossplay game this will immediately light back up. It's well past time for Sony to relent.

I don't really agree. If you're coming into a thread like this and getting banned for showing your ass, then it's no real loss to anyone.

Chilling until we get more news is pretty much the safest way to not get more news on a situation like this.

Their drive is always at least partially money, as a company, but as individuals most of them strive to create when we're talking about game studios. But none of that post had anything to do with anything in this thread. It was just an insane acid trip of a post down the journey of discovering that companies like money.

Gaming trends as of late… I tend to agree with you and what Fortnite is doing for the landscape. I mean, Fortnite isn't the problem… it's just an evolution of it, right? This 'mobile gaming' business model has existed for a long time and noooooobody took the concern of 'mobile gaming will one day flood over into console gaming' seriously… and now here we are. Fortnite is basically a mobile game that's meant to be played on PC and consoles. And that's the kind of stuff my son likes to play… outside of Minecraft, he's really big on Roblox, which is more a gaming platform than a game, and there's a ton of ways to waste real world money on stuff for your character's avatar or for perks in the games the platform hosts. And you know what the sad part is? Because kids spend more time playing that stuff than playing with physical toys, the investment, financially, seems to make a lot of sense. They'll use those character skins way longer than they'll use a toy, you know?

It's going to be really interesting to see what happens now. Everyone in the industry pushed all the abusive business models to the brink and now there's thread after thread and story after story of backlash and political involvement, etc. We're currently in Deadwood as it's on the verge of being placed under political control, just like everywhere else in the country. The wild west is slowly, but surely coming to an end. Of course, that makes way for new frontiers to be forged and explored… some for good, some for bad. Such is the story of business, I guess.

Great post. I completely understand and I will probably be getting both systems day one, ps5 and xbox2.

I've been through some shit in this thread, lol. But it wasn't until it was presented in real life did I understand the magnitude of the problem. I even highlighted that in my post further down.

Even though the magnitudes of MS (2013) and present Sony are different, the situations are similar. Yea, MS got caught slipping before their product shipped, Sony got caught slipping 3 quarters into this gen. Both had been company policies (which mean nothing to me, but I do know is way harder to change with a product on shelves) in how they run their business.

But anyway, I know people got affected by Sony's accounts block. When we had our Fortnite party, I made a statement to everyone telling them NOT to put their logins on ps4, I tried to go into details, but young people aren't trying to hear that shit when it's time to get going. So at least I warned them. Yea, I know it's shitty, and Sony should change the account blocking ASAP and give something to the people that were affected by this.

I know why they were saying fuck Sony, but then there's "Fuck Sony" the boycott. I'm not there yet for a boycott.

People are still angry at MS for plans they never actually put fourth on the public 5 years ago and reversed after feedback but yet Sony gets a free pass for anti consumer policies they have actually enforced now on their user base. Also apparently because MS had an issue once a long time ago with FF14 crossplay it means they can never change their mind after a complete leadership over haul at MS.

You said all that without reading. He quoted me and neither him or I said nothing that you suggested. As a matter of fact, I said the opposite, saying "I didn't go Fuck MS in 2013". As far as I can see, nobody on the last couple pages even remotely gave Sony a pass, so..

I've had tons of fun nights with friends doing private matches cross platform, it'll definitely get a lot better when we can party up and queue tho

My son has been loving crossplay on Switch, he regularly has games with his Xbox friends as well as PC and mobile friends, it's one big happy family with them :)

Cross play in match making has been there from day 1. The summer update is to let people party up across platforms.
I bought Rocket League at 8am the day it launched on Switch and there 80,000 people online to play with instantly. Then I created a private match and got my Xbox and Switch to join into the same game.

That larger matchmaking pool was so important to the Switch version of Rocket League establishing itself. If it had just been Switch owners vs each other then the matchmaking times and connection qualities would be a lot worse and we might not have seen the same level of support for the game that we have since launch.

Bomberman R is my secret crossplay dream game. One big matchmaking pool.

Jup, the current commercials still end with the 4theplayers slogan on screen and the narrator. At least here in Europe.

Why am I leaving my Fortnite account behind? The account that I've poured time, money and effort into? The answer is simple: I own a Nintendo Switch. And a Nintendo Switch would be a great way for me to play this game on the go when I'm looking for a bit more of an involved experience than what I can get on mobile. But my account is tainted as far as the Switch--or the Xbox One--is concerned. I've used it to play on PS4, and that means that I can't ever use it on the Switch due to Sony's hardline approach to cross-play and cross-progression.

Cross-progression is one of the most impressive things about Fortnite: Battle Royale. I can play on the same account an unlock rewards whether I'm on my PS4, my PC, or my phone, which are my three main platforms as of right now. But now I'll be replacing the PS4 side of that equation with Xbox One and Switch: a superior setup, but one that will require me to use my alternate account.

I bought a PS4 for with the promise of great first party games.

We just got GoW which was GotG and I'm looking forward to Spiderman.

If you are on about cross play with Xbox it doesn't affect me and Don't hasn't mislead me as I can't remember they proposed cross play with Xbox when they marketed the PS4. Though I remember Microsoft proposed Kinect is key to Xbox and most games will use Kinect and they changed their mind. So in terms of selling a product with nothing misleading and not backtracking Sony has kept their promise and their support for PS4 has been great in terms of first party. The only thing that annoys me is when Sony bumped up the price of PSN. Xbox also annoys me that they still charge for Gold for F2P games but I won't hate as they were striaght forward with this when they sold the Xbox.

So instead of people complaining about cross play feature with Xbox which Sony has never proposed or advertised. Why not buy as systems that has cross play and sell the PS4. It's like me complaining my Microwave doesn't have a grill function when before I bought it it clearly had no feature stated on the box it has a grill function. I won't be screaming and shouting about the microwave I have worse comes to worse if I really needed the feature I'd get rid of my old microwave and but one with a intergrated grill functionality.

I don't see the relation. Fortnite just happens to be the biggest game right now it it just happens that the accounts got locked. Plus Sony did mention they are trying to consider a compromise.
