The rule in video games is it doesn't count unless they get hurt in the cutscene. Resident Evil main characters never get bit by zombies.

I think you meant her....

Oh yeah I'm definitely Team Chloe. Elena is more wife material I guess, but Ms. Frazier is much sexier! For some reason she felt sexiest in Uncharted 2. I think they toned down her sex appeal for the Lost Legacy. In several Uncharteds we have Drake dressing up in suits/tuxedos for whatever reason. Where was the Lost Legacy stage were Chloe needed to girl it up Naughty Dog???

I actually don't remember him getting shot during gameplay (until he dies of course) like how Ellie gets shot TLoU2 or Joel does in first game, so this might actually be true. This belongs in 'videogames facts that will blow your mind' thread.

I actually kind of figured that too. Even if the on screen feedback is he's getting shot, not really is happening (until you actually do die). I know its stupid, but its a videogame thing. I remember the old Brothers in Arms games actually used this mechanic a little more eloquently- when you were out of cover the screen would gradually red up (which they directly explained as the enemies getting aim at you), and then when you were too long out of cover, you would finally get shot and die.

I mean- for a whole other concept- in Resident Evil- the characters never ACTUALLY get bit by Zombies in the canon- that's just a gameplay device for the player (because obviously if they got bit they soon be zombies themselves- the only real injury characters take, would be those things that occur in cutscenes.

Although RE7 did flip some of this on its head when the health sprays are shown as directly reattaching limbs and whatnot.

Funny, that's how I've always seen it. The game doesn't make it very obvious, but it sure makes more sense.

the systems are ultimately presented in the same way, so it's a little bit irrelevant what you want to call it. but it makes sense to want to capture what is essentially the bad aim of storm troopers in star wars or the nazi's in indiana jones.

"""""""ludonarrative dissonance"""""""

I've always thought this was the case. It made sense of the situations.

Nah he's getting shot. Weird thread.

Amy confirmed, so...nope. He's not.

Off topic, but this reminds me of Sleeping Dogs when Wei Shen gets shot in the stomach point blank range with a shotgun and basically shrugs it off in a cutscene near the end of the game.

Wei Shen gets
a power drill to his knees and has enough energy to chase down and beat up the key villain.
That ending was fuck terrible in terms of believability.

I mean, she did say that was the original intention....almost like it changed at some point and just became him being shot.

The real question this thread brought up (to my attention at least)... kiryu vs Drake. Who would win? The man who "never killed anyone" vs the man "who never gets shot" while mowing down waives of dudes?

hmmm

I can't believe they are trying to explain it when it makes even less sense. It is just a regenerating health system, no matter how you much try to spin it. Nate definitely gets shot multiple times and recovers to full health after narrowly dodging shots infinite amount. Even then, how do you explain the unarmed fighting sections?

Kiryu could use a rocket launcher to directly hit him and Drake would end up unharmed but apologizing on the ground. Maybe even give him some pocket tissues as an apology gift.

I guess my theory that Nathan Drake was bulletproof as long as he showered in the blood of his enemies à la Alex Mercer was wrong, dammit.

I love how people loves to criticize Uncharted for this, while at the same time completely ignores other dozens of game where the character bleeds galons of blood (Gears of War, The Last of Us), or keep the bullet holes in the body (GTA V, Max Payne 3). Like, even if he screams or flinch, you never actually see him bleeding or anything like this, besides a single cutscene in Uncharted 2 where he actually got shot. Well, the game is supposed to be unrealistic, goofy and exagerated, and still does a much better job with this than these other "Realistic" games.
