5% is five times higher than the most popular gacha game in the world and higher than almost any other gacha game out there. Wut.
They want everyone to be burdened by that shitty catboy with the terrible voice actor for as long as possible.
Thats about double, or in some cases qunituple the common gacha rate for several of the biggest games in the "genre"

The game is pretty generous. If you play for about an hour you can buy the free 5* ticket with in game currency, you also start the game with a free 5* of your choice and if you pre registered you get another one. The login bonuses includes 5* weapon and 5* character tickets on the list. You can actually farm the crystal currency needed to pull characters from the events too.
Final Fantasy Record Keeper has 14% 5* rate.

Sure, thats your perogative and you may not like the standard gacha rates, I could certainly live with higher ones myself, but the game still has higher rates than the majority of gacha games. Most of the most popular games only hit 5% during special events or in the case of FGO never, but fuck FGO's gacha.

When choosing the first 5* character/class to draw, am I choosing that class forever? I checked out the Google doc, and there's definitely another character I want to main. Not sure if she's available yet, but I'll choose my class accordingly if I need to.
No. It's just picking your starting 5* character. You're free to get lots of others as you go.

EDIT: I just realized I probably should've chosen a different class to start with, so I have a top tier character in both.
I should also mention the Friendship Gauge system:

The recent gachas i've tried, like FEH and DFFOO, have 5% 5* rates as the standard. Didn't know FGO was so popular, but if it has 1% 5* rate than definitely fuck that game's gacha and i pity the poor saps who are hooked on that shit.
FGO is a game that is supported almost entirely by obsessive whales. No one else can really compete because of how garbage its rates are.
Bullshit. This game is far more forgiving and less scammy than most Gacha games. If you're going to shit on a game, at least know what you're talking about.

The issue is that 6* items are the things people actually pull for nowadays, not 5*. 5* is kind of old hat for FFRK.

You just want to post your HOT TAKE that this game is not for you because it has a 5% 5* that's fine but if you actually played the game you would see that right now you get 3 x 5* for free anyway and enough items to level them up to 60 for free. You can also farm the currency required to pull from the gacha. So yes it's a pretty generous game and it's fine if you want to share with us that it's not for you but I feel we get your point already.
FEH has 3% for focus units and 3% for non-focus units, for a total 6% 5* rate.

Graphics look low res on iPhone X, even when set to high. Pretty disappointing for a game with this art style.
I don't know if the setting part even works? I downloaded the high res pack after a certain part of the story, changed it to that, but the resolution did not change at all on my phone.
That's a rather disingenuous way of putting it. It absolutely does not have a "6% 5* rate" it has a 3% 5* rate, if you are lucky enough to an orb of the right colour for a focus unit to come up then you have a 6% chance of getting a 5* unit (assuming the odds are additive). Its quite the stretch to suggest that because three units on a banner have a conditional 6% chance that the game has a general 6% chance for 5* units. And even if it did that would put it in the same bracket as SOA.
WTF is disingenuous about it? If a unit is 5*, it's 5*, it doesn't matter if it's a focus unit or even if it's the same color. I never said anything about rates for SPECIFIC units, i don't even know WTF the rates for SPECIFIC units in this new game are so I wouldn't be able to make a comparison.
Edit: nevermind, i get what you're saying. If you get a orb color on a banner that doesn't have a focus unit of that color then the 5* rate is only 3%, yeah. My bad.
Normal and High seem to be exactly the same. Even when going back to the Title Screen, selecting Normal or High and commencing the download for each, the graphics look exactly the same. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

I thought it actually selected the character and displayed the colour for the character rather than the other way around when you pull, which means your post wouldn't be accurate either.

I've no idea if the orb is a magicians choice or not. Honestly I fucking loathe FEH's gacha, while it has a slightly higher rate the fact you can pull a garbage version of a 5* means the rates dont really mean shit. At least in this, or GBF, or Blech, or fuck even FGO, if you get a 5* character you know they're good to go. Though this game has limit breaks so perhaps its like Danmachi where you need to get multiple copies?
Lol. I picked Maria for my free character, got her again when 8 used the 5 * Ace ticket and got her one more time with a regular draw... Going to reroll...
Oh and did anyone else kind of chuckled at the premise of this game basically being Star Trek: Voyager?
You don't need multiple copies to limit break. There are limit break crystals you can farm from events and also receive from login/achievements that let you LB the character

Oh don't get me wrong. I think the nature system is shit, I've said that from the beginning - it's another way to try and milk money from people. Though I will admit, even despite that being there, I think I'd still rather FEH's system over FFBE or FGO's garbage rates, I'll take having a slightly weaker version of a unit than not getting a unit at all which is what happens in those two games. I think Id put Granblue above them all though, just a shame it's so grindy.
Basically, it does limit break the character, but considering you can LB it other ways.
