Why waste money on this? Who is the ad agency, so I know not to use them

"that time we faked it"

That's a roundabout way to say "our stupid idea backfired so we'll pretend it was a marketing stunt".

The location near me is pretty legit. Great pancakes, and the country fried steak is good.

I feel sorry for the servers who will get cheap ass people tipping on the 60 cents pancakes versus what they really should be.

I wonder how long it'll be until "tapping into the fact that people online love complaining about things that appear to be stupid" is the prominent trend in marketing.

There were articles back when this Ihob pusiness started that it was only a marketing campaign, like this one from June 11th: https://money.cnn.com/2018/06/11/investing/ihob-ihop-burgers-name-change/index.html

IHOP said on Monday that it's temporarily changing its branding because the B stands for burgers. It's only a marketing campaign. IHOP isn't changing its name.

"We are definitely going to be IHOP," Darren Rebelez, president of IHOP, told CNNMoney. "But we want to convey that we are taking our burgers as seriously as our pancakes."

An IHOP in Hollywood is getting new IHOb signs, and some others might get the treatment. The new IHOb Twitter account even retweeted photos and video of a construction crew putting up the new sign in LA. But Rebelez said the vast majority of the nearly 1,800 other locations will still go by IHOP.

-------

I don't get the fake shock in this thread. People act like Ihop was playing it like they seriously had changed the name this whole time.

Are we still sure this isn't related to Nathan For You in anyway? I'm not quite convinced.

I've tried making jokes amongst friends, but most people I know didn't even hear about the iHob thing.

Dennys is better anyway

After learning Denny's has a history of transphobia & racism, I'm leaning more into ihob these days.

The jokes & attacks against Ihop in this thread are based on a false scenario. At the same time, Ihop announced the b stood for burgers, they also said it was only a marketing campaign & that they weren't really changing their name. People in this thread act like Ihop was trying to mislead everyone, when they actually said from the start that is was only a marketing campaign.

They should be IHOO cause their omelettes are delicious.

YUP....Colorado Omelette and triple buttermilk pancakes have been my go to for 13 years! I dunno how these guys are knocking IHOP. I tried Denny's when I moved to FL, but 2 pancakes with my omelette is criminally outrageous.

Didn't help that Denny's ALWAYS took forever to prep our food, and that's regardless of their racist history of poor service to minorities (no lie). Good food and good service. S'all I ask.

This was always planned (see: articles confirming it was marketing back in June) and they definitely made a shitload of money from this

It's really good advertising, plain and simple.
