DC's Shazam! casts Guardians actor Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard

image

DC's Shazam! movie has found its 3,000-year-old Wizard.

Djimon Hounsou was quietly cast to play the sorcerer who gives young Billy Batson his powers in DC's Shazam! film coming next year, EW has exclusively learned.

Previously, This Is Us actor Ron Cephas Jones was widely reported as likely getting the Shazam! role, but that didn't end up happening due to a scheduling conflict.

Wasn't a different actor initially cast as the wizard? Or am I misremembering?

A full confirmation of Black Adam at SDCC would be sweet.

I'm glad Djimon Hounsou is cast as the Wizard. Don't mind seeing him in more superhero properties.

Also glad that they might start filming Black Adam late next year.

Ron Cephas Jones was rumored to play the wizard. Evidently there were scheduling problems that prevented that. He fit the bill better, tbh, but Djimon Hounsou is great, too.
Hmmm yeah would have loved to see Ron Cephas Jones as the Wizard. Hounsou is good too though.

Shazam still sits at number 1 on my most anticipated movies list. John's Shazam run will build anticipation too.

Does Wan have final cut on Aquaman?
I bet he does, wan is crucial to the whole conjuring verse and no way does he sign on to fucking aquaman with out full control.

He's probably the most talented block buster director they have and I really hope he does Justice league 2, furious 7 was a damn good team movie.

I like Reeves a lot more than Wan for blockbusters tbh, but yeah if a Justice League 2 ever happens Wan is the guy to do it after his Furious 7 experience.

or one up that and go to the FastGawd and get Justin Lin on it.

I wanted Justin Lin for Justice League 1, way back when, coming off Fast 5 and 6.

At this point, I feel Justice League 2 is far off enough that other names will emerge.

Mary Poppins moved to the 21st... So that's 4 "big" movies releasing on the same date now. If they don't announce an Aquaman date shift, they're stupid as hell. It should be moved up 2 weeks.

Rumors were December 7th. But with 21st being that much of a mess, the other movies will end up shifting around too. Watch Bumblebee also move to the 7th.

I think Bumblebee could get away with moving up just one week. Even with it going head to head with Spider-Man, I think Bumblebee would edge out the win there.

Against Spider-Man? I dunno man. Spider-Man is a juggernaut.

Sony shoulda went with November but jumanji did killer last December so I doubt they wanna move. Bumblebee should of moved from December.

But it's an animated Spider-Man movie. Even if it reviews great, I just don't see it having the same appeal as if it were an actual MCU live action Spidey movie.

Maybe the ceiling for an animated Spider-Man movie is around Batman LEGO and that did like 300 million. It's gonna do great because all those kids are gonna be playing the Spider-Man game, spideyhype is real and it's gonna do more than Batman.

It's a risky bet going against against that sorta movie that might take a chunk of the market.

Here's the thing I dislike about internet discourse these days, everyone is saying movies should move from that date which I agree with.

But when a movie eventually does move the narrative will turn to them not having confidence in their movie. It must suck

People are gonna form these shallow narratives regardless. It's not something worth paying attention to, much less for a studio to worry about.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/h...xs-joker-origin-movie-officially-a-go-1126127

The project's budget is in the $55 million range, significantly lower than the tentpoles that dominate the form. And the stand-alone is meant to be darker and more experimental in tone and content (at least as experimental as a studio can be with established brands such as DC), which is described as being akin to a crime drama.

That said, there is a chance that the movie could be ready for release as early as late 2019, depending on various factors.

If Joker: Origins has some Killing Joke-esque bookends with older Batman visiting an older Joker in Arkham that'd be the best place for Affleck to bow out.

Then they could turn back the clock introduce our new Bruce Wayne, Mark Wahlburgers

There's also absolutely no WAY Wakeem sticks around. They pulled some black magic getting him to work with the Hangover 3 director
