It's great. I absolutely fits perfect in my hands. A tad better than the Xbox One controller in that regard.

I got 45 hours out of it when first playing Zelda BotW so that is my benchmark.. havnt timed it after that. Which makes my DS4 controllers absolutely awful in comparison getting 4-5 hours a piece.

In terms of the D-Pad there's one game that I truly notice that it lacks accuracy is Ultra Street Fighter 2 where I really couldnt do many specials at all. Outside of that game I havnt really mentioned any faults at all and I do play lots of platformers.. wonder why that is.

I love the Pro Controller, but I'd trade battery life in a heartbeat for the DualShock 4's dpad.

Also a little disingenuous to call it "a feature of the Switch" when it's an $80 standalone accessory, but I never understand these Switch love-in drum circle threads.

It's still not as good as using Double A batteries on the Xbox One controller.

What? When I had an Xbox One controller even the expensive Lithium AA batteries I've used on it didn't last as long as a single charge (40+ hours is the rated time but I literally go weeks between charges) of the Pro controller. And that costs up to $4 a pop. Go with cheaper batteries and it's even less.

The Pro Controller is my favorite controller ever, but that DPad kills it for me. If they ever release a Pro with a Wii U DPad I'm buying that ASAP

I've had the opposite experience.

I feel like my wavebird has the same batteries i put in back in 2004.

My switch pro controller has died multiple times in the middle of a game

I'm pretty sure that was a joke based on the other thread about removable batteries for the next Dual Shock.

That being said, I get pretty good battery life on the Xbox One controllers as well, if not quite as long as the Switch Pro. I haven't done an exact measurement, but my kids often go more than a month between asking me to charge the batteries, and they play or more or less every day. I can't remember the last time I needed to charge my Elite batteries, but I also don't get to play as often.

I dunno why this is an under appreciated "feature" when it's just the garbage battery life of the DS4 that's the outlier.

For me, it's been pretty bad because the controller would just stay on indefinitely when I leave it sit because there's no option to set how long the controller stays on when not in use. There is a setting for how long until the Switch goes into standby when not in use, which I want it to stay on indefinitely and not shut down all of the time. I've had to change that to 10 minutes to help conserve my Pro controller battery.

I've grown to respect the Switch Pro controller... I didn't like it at first...

Last week I just got one of these
snes30-pro.png

in preparation for the Megaman X collection... cause there is no way I can play megaman X on the Switch pro d-pad...
I've been really plesantly surprised... It looks about 10% worse in real life than this render makes it seem... but the D pad is LEGIT... the A B X Y buttons are a bit too stiff for my liking... but that may be just because my SNES controllers are 25 years old and millions of button presses have softened them. BUT... overall I'm quite pleased.
Has Rumble, gyro, clickable sticks and zl zr buttons ... menu and screen shot functionality... I believe they see an $8 adapter to use it with the classic minis... I will do that for sure.
I don't have a Switch Pro controller so I can't really compare the two, but you can still do accidental, other direction dpad presses with the sn30pro. It takes a bit more effort though compared to other bad dpads I've used in the past so I personally think it's a great alternative controller.

honestly it's almost a negative for me because a charge will last so long that I never think about it so when it gets low it's always out of nowhere and at an inconvenient time

meanwhile the DS4's battery life is so bad that it's always on my mind so I always keep it charged

haha yes this has happened to me a couple of times, the switch dock is close enoigh I can just plug the thing and keep playing
lately im using the pro controlled wired to play dbfz on steam so its always charged

I don't understand the d-pad gripes. I've not had a single issue with my switch pro d-pad. In fact, I play all of my 2D platformers with it because it works well.

Like a few have said, I think it's more about DS4 battery life that sucks. Hope Sony cut down on all gimmicky stuff in the PS5 controller.
If the d-pad would have worked like it should, the switch pro controller would be a neat controller... allthough a bit pricey for what you get. The d-pad issue and Nintendos unwillingness to even recognize the problem makes me think it's high price is totally ridiculous.

Joke or not those AA batteries are still better than the PS4 controller solution

Not a joke. AA batteries are so much better. I can replace them whenever I want, and I can use rechargeable if I'm worried about saving money. I hate picking up a controller that's dead and having to play with it plugged in.

After I fixed the d-pad, the Switch Pro Controller is one of my favourite controllers ever. Its build is far better than the Wii U's Pro controller and the battery life is amazing. Since I'm only gaming at weekends, it lasts me for around a month.
Nothing will ever beat the battery life of the Wii U Pro Controller, though. That thing was absolutely insane and it makes you really wodner what kind of research Nintendo is doing related to maximizing battery life.

AA batteries are so good.

My HTPC keyboard uses them and it lasts for literally over a year. The next model up which has a rechargable battery only lasts a day.

If Wii remotes had rechargable batteries, they would not last nearly as long. Too bad non-rechargable batteries are less environmentally friendly.

It's nice, but the digital triggers ruin it and the dpad is the worst I've used since the early 360 days. It still boggles my mind that the switch doesn't have analog triggers

Wii U's Pro Controller was even better.

I've had the Switch Pro run out on me a few times (obviously due to my own lack of charging it over time which is my fault) and it gets a bit annoying when I feel forced to use split Joycons or even the Joycon grip.

I'm still waiting for a Pro with a color I actually like. I don't find the XB2 or Splatoon 2 ones appealing in the least. And why isn't there a Smash U one??

Having said all that, yes, the battery life is pretty great. But let's not get it twisted, the Wii U's is the TRUE GOAT.

Agree with this. Is the Wii u pro usable on switch? Since all these other third party ones are it should as well.

The 8bitdo SNES controller is great and a massive improvement in particular over the OG Switch Pro controller for 2D games like Hollow Knight and Shantae where the D-pad is your primary form of movement rather than just what you use to go through menus (or effectively a second set of face buttons like in XC2.) In general I feel like controllers with "PS-style" pad/stick placement have an edge over ones with "XBox-style" pad/sick placement for games like that.

Yes it can still happen but it's much less of an issue

I agree... the main issue with most modern Dpads isnt how the click but is their placement being down and to the right ... it never feels quite as right as when the dpad is up top ... for those types of games.
I wonder if there was a modular approach to a controller if it would be good... being able to swap the sticks and buttons would be great when you encounter specific games that would be better with different configurations.

Yeah my DS4 only lasts like 2 and a half hour :(

So awful.

But the audio jack is a godsend. Which the switch Pro lacks -_-

Why can't there be a perfect controller.
Nintendo almost had it just kissing that headphone jack

No fuck AA batteries so Xbox isn't the best either.

And the Wii U gamepad...that was...yikes.
Well, at least on the Wii U Gamepad, it makes sense why, even if it's still pretty shitty. But yeah, you have this gigantic tablet with this 6 inch screen showing constant 480p video over a narrow band wireless connection, while also streaming I/O back to the host. So you get why the battery life is bad. It's not unreasonable for it to be bad, even though it sucks.
3DS battery life was just inexplicably bad (as is the DualShock 4's).

Is it better than the wiiu pro? I'm using the wiiu pro with the 8bitdo receiver.
The Wii U Pro has a better d-pad but the sticks and almost everything else feel better on the Switch Pro to my hands. It's partly because the Switch Pro is all matte where the Wii U Pro is glossy on the top. I still adore the white Wii U pro controller though. With the near perfect d-pad its great for playing retro games on different systems via the multiple 8bitdo retro receivers.

I don't think I've had to change my Steam controller batteries before and I've used it for countless hours over the course of the last few months.
