Well, there we have it, delayed for a full year :(
As I've said before I'm extremely curious about what's exactly been going on behind the scenes of this project. At first Spielberg was extremely enthusiastic, but over time that seemingly has changed?

The thing that gives me a little bit of hope for Ford still leading the movie and not doing a recast is how poorly Solo fared, being another recast of an iconic Ford character.
Also, a parallel younger and older story would be so cliche and expected, another reason I hope they stay away from it.

But I must admit delaying a whole year making Ford 77 when filming are making things look grim in my eyes. Unless the Koepp script really was utter crap and that is the reason for the delay, that they want to send Indy out the right way.

Personally I'd rather Ford just walk away if Disney are just using him as a springboard to continue the series. I got the impression this project was something Ford himself actually really wanted to do. Being sidelined in his own movie is not something I'd want to see.

But guess we'll just have to wait and see.

fuck that. it works for some characters like Bond and Batman, but Ford owns Solo and Indy.

if they want to make some new movies they should recast the son. move it to the 50s/60s.
Nah. I'm not giving up Indy when Ford passes. Makes zero sense for any IP.

Indy is bigger than Ford.

I've never liked recasting, it always feels like somebody just pretending to be the character. to me.
One thing that's different between Indy and Bond though is that Bond was already established as a character before any actor portrayed him.
The very first time anybody ever heard of Indiana Jones was when he was played by Harrison Ford. It wasn't Ford's take on a already established character, Ford created the character (with the help of the writers and the Berg and George of course).

Indy already has comics without Ford. Like it or not the IP is worth to much for them to ever abandon.

There's some fairly recent box office evidence that recasting an iconic Harrison Ford role with a younger actor doesn't go over very well.

That wasn't the problem, the problem was that film was a vanity project for Kasden that took no risks. Alden was fine. It was a story no one wanted to see.

Anyway. I had no idea Ford was that old by the time Crusade came out (o__O)

Shia can act when he actually gives a shit. I wouldn't mind seeing a Shia-helmed one, though I'm sure that's very unpopular opinion.

I still hope for a two timeline story with the younger Indy in his twenties. Lots of origins to explore in coming movies and with the right actor a twen Indy should be totally acceptable/believable.

Holy damn, you're right.

As a leading man in an action/adventure film, Ford was a little older compared to the traditional casting you'd see today. He was close to 40 (39 to be exact) when he was cast in Raiders.

If Indy ever got recast today, I'd imagine they would look for a 25-30 year old, someone who could carry the series for a long time.

All of the de-aging tech and CGI versions of old/dead actors has been leading to this

I've only just heard this will be pushed back again.

Jesus.

I worry for Harrison's sake.

Harrison Ford turns 76 years old later this week
This movie is already a terrible idea, and when you are 76 years old, it's no guarantee you are going to make it to your next birthday, even if you are in good health

We don't know what role he will have. Probably not main character. I think we might get a female Indiana Jones who is his grand daughter and the two will interact in some way where he can punch some Russians. Best thing would be to completely reboot the franchise and have it still set in the 1930s.

Spielberg said he is the lead and the movie is not a torch passing one.

The only way I can see this movie being good is it it's setpieces are more Hitchcock style suspense than crazy stunts and fights. Spielberg is already a pro at that type of thriller, and I can see a North by Northwest style Indy set in exotic locations with a Cold War bent being a lot of fun. But if it's ancient Harrison Ford in cgi laden set-pieces? I dunno about that...

This idea sells me on it the most. Even though Indiana Jones films have typically been physical action, that doesn't mean that they couldn't try to make it more of a suspense action. I'd love to see something like that. It would make the use of CG a lot less necessary too, except for any set piece moments.

Another thing working against this movie though besides Harrison Ford's age is just how terrible Crystal Skull was. It started out fine, but as the run time goes on, the movie just gets worse and worse. I feel like the people in control of the story crafting in this series don't know how to make a good script anymore. Even the really talented people involved with Crystal Skull, felt like they were phoning it in, especially John Williams, where his music in that movie sounded like they were just clips taken from War of the Worlds in parts.

I kinda don't like the advancing timeline. Should be a 1920-Late 40s type of era.

Delay is bad also, they need to hurry this up. Plus they should definitely just start treating Indy like Bond and make endless adventures.
