What a stupid ass comment from Courtois. You're mad they didn't allow more scoring opportunities for your team? lmao

i would say about 8/10 of my predictions are correct. I correctly predicted most of the England games and predicted a draw for Brazil's opening game. And Belgium/Japan. 80% success rate.

Wonder what Lukaku makes of the loss. Hopefully, like De Bruyne, he comes off a little more noble.

Seeing shit like makes me always yell "shoot" at the Tv whenever someone's in decent range with a little space. Meanwhile ittakws crazy skill to pull off these kind of shots.

I'm left footed and I remember trying to score a goal like that for fun. After like 200 tries I still wasn't even close lol.

Not that surprising given his ability.

Basically the same shot

Here are some others

Oh woah I had never seen these before. The first one is almost the same goal. Now I finally know how and why he did it! lol

No one would use "Ça".
I'm French.

This is the literal translation of "it", whatever "it" means in this case (I assumed the cup).
Il est possible d'"utiliser "il" ou "elle" for an object ("La Coupe"), in a more familiar context.
More likely drunk/ party I guess, or slang. It doesn't make it a more correct translation though.

Nobody speaking decent French would use "il" for an object, unless French really devolved in the past 15 years?

Pour ça que j'ai traduit ça " Le trophée rentre à la maison " comme ça y'a pas de prise de tête

Mais ouais personne utiliserait " ça " ici

I don't like Belgium and it's good to see their luck has finally ran out but I will miss seeing courtois. He's godlike.

Pretty disappointed after that game, Belgium was my pick before the cup started. France's defence was just too good and Belgium's attack wasn't running as smoothly as it had previously. Oh well, still happy with their tournament, especially beating Brazil.

It's definitely coming home though. England all the way now. I don't think their team is anywhere near as talented individually as France, but if they can manage to edge out Croatia, you never know what can happen in a single game of football, especially a world cup final.

Using "ça" is incorrect though. It can only be "elle" since we're talking about the cup.

C'mon get real. He's an asshole for wasting time and getting on the opponent's nerves in a World Cup semifinals? He's not supposed to be friendly to his adversaries, it's a competition.
There's also a thing called sportmanship. He stole the ball from a defender, kicked it away and proceeded to neymar all over on the ground. Every football player does one of the three things. But one has to be a natural asshole to do the 3-act combo so instinctively. It's such a rare behavior.

Wasting time is part of any sport. People do It in basketball or American football all the time. It's called running down the clock .no shame in that.

Except he's not wasting time or running down the clock according to rules. That kid was being an egregious little cheater. The ball was in the other team's possession and he repeatedly took the ball away so the other team couldn't play.

One of the easiest ways to fix time-wasting is to eliminate substitutions in stoppage time since they serve nothing but to waste time, and more often than not, the referee ends up having to warn players for taking too long to get off the pitch. As for other scenarios, it's hard because teams will either 1) kick balls off opponents for repeated throw-ins or corners, or 2) repeatedly pass to themselves to ensure the opponent gets next to no possessions without having to resort to presses, all of which are technically legal, but it's just lame because they're abusing elements of the game to waste time. So if anything, the root cause of the problem is the existence of stoppage time and how little value it has because teams will always resort to time-wasting tactics during high leverage matches. In which case, the solution should be aimed towards eliminating stoppage time entirely and resort to stopping the clock during moments like water breaks/substitutions, and then resuming the clock when play resumes.

Except he's not wasting time or running down the clock according to rules. That kid was being an egregious little cheater. The ball was in the other team's possession and he repeatedly took the ball away so the other team couldn't play.

This doesn't make any sense. Just because the rules didn't specify exactly what Mbappé did, doesn't mean it's not timewasting. The idea behind what Mbappé did is clear timewasting, he's trying to stall by moving the ball as far away as possible so Belgium has to wait until they receive the ball.

That was a response to someone who defended the little cheat by whatabouting American sports. Time wasting happens in basketball and others but the players still respect the rules. When a player breaks the rules intentionally and repeatedly, that's cheating, not time wasting. Time wasting in football is running the ball to a corner, taking longer than usual to get up or kick the ball... Stealing the ball from the opponent AND kicking it out is time wasting if one is a cheat.

The Mark Geiger final dream is alive.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...er-among-those-selected-final-phase-world-cup

US referee Mark Geiger is among the officials who made the final cut at the 2018 World Cup, putting him in contention to oversee the tournament final or third-place game this weekend.

FIFA's Referees Committee selected 12 referees, 26 assistant referees and 10 Video Assistant Referees for the event's "final phase," and Geiger was one of two Concacaf-based officials on that list, along with Mexico's Cesar Arturo Ramos.

Refereeing assignments are released 48 hours before World Cup matches, so Geiger would likely learn of any weekend assignment on Thursday or Friday.

France have the best team by far but they are so negative once they scored

Deschamps the water carrier

Hopefully Deschamps fucks off and they get a manager who plays football for the Euros

Wenger with this team would be great to watch

Man, I thought Courtois was cool. His post match comments show he neither can win nor lose gracefully.

Also France played negatively after scoring? Really? They just left the ball to the opposition and dominated nearly every other stat, I really wouldn't call this playing negatively.

Yeah this is a really bad look for Belgium. If they had deserved to win that game sure we could entertain these complaints but really that game could have been just as easily 3-0

Yeah exactly, he's lucky France missed some opportunities

I'm not as confident in France as others. I still remember that Portugal disaster Euro final. If England can make it there, it's anyone's game.

Euro was in France and they just won against that great Germany in semi-final, they were going to play against a meh Portugal who stole that Euro

Now they know, they are lucid and pragmatic, they are concentrated and will be until the end as you can see in interview, they are very respectful

This is year for France to bring this cup back, 20 years later

How about we see whether France can win a trophy with Deschamps finally before calling another loser to the managerial position

and yes, I know about the Invincibles

Mbappe has an amazing 90 minutes and some clowns on here focus on his ten seconds of time wasting? You must be causal fans.

When you're up by one goal, minutes away from a final, you do everything in your power to run down the clock. Is it good sportsman ship? Ethically, no, but not enough to be condemned. It's tactical more than anything.

Players will intentionally foul someone to stop a counter attack, knowing they'll get a yellow card but they'll do it knowing they'll stop a potential goal. That's considered being tactical but you could also argue it's cheating (when it isn't).

I can't wait until this cup is over so footygaf can return to normal without these cretins invading our discussions.

That's silly, you can see where Mbappe is coming from and still call it out at the same time. But I'm sure it all depends on who was rooting for who. For France fans, Mbappe is a hero.

Lol, really hilarious you actually think you're knowledgeable and the authority on this topic or something..."pathetic casuals" lol.

Bad sportsmanship is bad sportsmanship.

I'm English, so I'm definitely not rooting for France. By that same token, I'm not going use hyperbolic language because a player is time wasting. That's not the same as clearing the ball off the line with your hand to stop a goal (a la Suárez again Ghana). That's clear as day cheating.

I'm seeing posters in here acting as if time wasting minutes from the end is the equivalent to denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. It's beyond silly. I personally don't like it but I understand it's tactical more than anything. Mbappe wasn't the first nor will he be the last to do that towards the end of a game.

Yup, because that's exactly what I said. Anyone who has watched football knows that time wasting is part and parcel of the game when you're up by one goal in the final minutes of a game.

Whether it's: taking longer to take a throw in or goal kick, taking the ball to the corner and trying to draw a foul etc. Yes, the former can be considered bad sportsmanship but so are professional fouls when the other team in through on goal. It's called being tactical.

In the nba, when a player intentionally fouls the opposition to force them to go to the free throw line in the final minute of a game, in order to regain possession, is that bad sportsmanship or being tactical?

If you can't understand that then I can only come to the conclusion you're a casual fan.

Lol the fact that you are comparing players fouling at the end of NBA games to regain possession to Mbappe prancing around like an asshole with the ball and then ending on the floor for 2 minutes shows that you're the casual that's ignorant.
