Viceland's problem is entirely being twenty years off on timing. It's a cross between mid 90s MTV and adult swim and it would have killed in 1999. Abandoned, Hamilton's Pharmacopeia, What Would Diplo Do, Nuts + Bolts, Epicly Later'd, and Desus and Mero were all actually entertaining shows. It's just a terrible/stupid time to be a linear TV network for the youth.

Funny they killed History Channel 2 for it, which had become the Ancient Aliens channel

I love Desus and Mero but if that's the only thing you liked on their network, I'd question your age. Vice has been vital hipster source for news and entertainment for over a decade.

Hmm, Viceland is part of Vice, but outside a few specials here and there, it's not much the news Network in its content from what I've seen

lol. im their market and the only reason I paid for viceland was desus and mero, occassionally an action bronson or matty mattheson show, but that's it. the rest of it is garbage television or reruns of syndicated shows. the only vice-run show worth watching is on HBO.

I'm not gonna lie. Munchies shows and segments are really the ones I always watch outside of the news stuff.

As long as we get one more season of Nirvanna the band the show, all is fine. (I really hope once Viceland goes, all creators can find a place to go)

I ran into Matt on the street by the house they film out of and he made it sound like they had plans for another season. Fingers crossed that holds true - you know shit is fucked when the creators of the show are outright advocating piracy of it because Viceland's distribution was so botched.

Took me FOREVER to watch the damn series because of how bad the releases are handled

Make sure to check out the full Bossip article, lots of good quotes in there about the Showtime show too:

But their collective frustration with being over-utilized isn't to be confused with a lack of passion for their fans or their craft. Both of their faces light up when discussing the fact that Showtime means a bigger budget and more fleshed out content. As the only talk show on television without a writer's room, the weight of the world is still on their shoulders—and they were visibly relieved to find an outlet that will help nurture their content instead of squeezing it out of their dead, overworked hands.

Their social media comments might be polluted with a select few complaining about the switch to premium cable, but the boys are sympathetic to the struggle– and they thought about that way before the public even knew a deal was in the works.

Desus reasoned, "every time someone complains about the price, I think of myself. It doesn't bother us, it's just when people are negative and like, 'yo, you guys sold out.' You're still gonna get the show you want, and it's gonna be like $5.99. Relax."

"It's not like we ran off on the plug," Mero added. "The very fact that we're going to Showtime means that the show is going to get bigger and better. It's gonna be on a bigger scale, bigger budget, more exposure, more likeliness to win a f**king Emmy."

"Imagine listening to the podcast and you don't have to imagine what's going on," Desus continued. "I get it, people are afraid, your favorite show no longer comes on at 11pm…but listen, we'll get our way back in y'all hearts."

Mero resumed, "people are scared because they think it's gonna be wild inaccessible, and it's not gonna be wild inaccessible."

"You don't have to have a Showtime login to watch what we're gonna put out," Desus assured. "Bodega Hive is something very personal to us…we cannot just sh*t on this f**king fanbase."

This is disappointing. Viceland at this point feels like it should be more like adult swim on another network. They have a few worthwhile shows, it they are few and far between.

At least king of the road started up again.

I've only listened to their podcast. Is their TV stuff worth watching? I can't imagine it's as freeform and loose.

The Viceland show had the same Bodega Boys humor/vibes, just much shorter/edited together riffs and tangents.

I'm actually really pumped for the Showtime show. If it ends up being something more like a weekly/semi-weekly Bodega Boys-lengthed version of the Viceland show, that could be pretty cool. The 20-minute ish Viceland episodes felt like they just flew by too fast sometimes. I'd end up saving two or three days worth and binging them back to back. An hour plus of Desus and Mero in a sitting? Strongggggg.

VICE LAND has always been dumb as fuck. Why VICE a company on the ball with its Internet prowess and mindshare would bet on the very medium they have heavily contributed to making less and less relevant is pure dipshit mode.

Where X marks the spot.
I've watched some good reporting, and their show.... but outside of that everything I hear coming out of that collective network is trash.

(Not you Waypoint. I still love you).

Basically
1) there's in theory, more money in TV.
2) Prestige and looking.more real to investors and being able to say you have a TV network to flex on competitors.

Unfortunately, their demographic doesn't watch cable TV enough to support a station and instead of prestige they became a 20 hours of hoarders network.

I know why it happend it's just stupid. VICE is trying to appeal to the old guard something they've never seemed to care about. Should have kept it that way fuck old conceptions of success. Leave the fossils that think TV is what it used to be in the dust.

To be fair 20 hours of Bar Rescue kept Spike going

It's the reality of the industry. Social media ruined internet traffic and ad rates were already plummeting for online content. Once you get Disney and other old-school.networks investing money it just becomes a way to burn money on satellite TV . The millennial cable news market experiment should.make for some fun articles and books in a couple of years though .

I legit have no reason to watch Viceland again, "Trixie and Katya" is extremely inconsistent [mostly for Katya's health reasons which is totally understandable], but without "Desus and Mero" I am not interested in anything else on that network...

Like I really tried giving 2 Chainz the benefit of the doubt, but that "Most Expensivist" show was boring as hell...and on top of that y'all treated my husband Desus with disrespect and I cannot allow that.

They're not alt right, I don't think they're conservative either. Both of them is married to Mexicans.

I don't know anything about the twins, but just because someone is married to a minority does not mean they cannot be alt-right. Molly Yannypolicy is in a relationship with a black man, after all.

A couple of black guys, married to Mexican women, and that have biracial children being alt right which is a white supremicist movement is goddamn ridiculous.

I'm talking about the twins and them being alt right is the dumbest shit I've heard all day.

Damn THIS was the highest rated show on all of Viceland? That's kind of impressive but I would've thought it'd be Bronson, Michael K Williams, or Ellen Page's show or something.

Seems like Viceland never had a budget for anything really, including their journalists. Wonder why even during periods of growth and capital they never invested.

A talk show having a skeleton staff must be a nightmare, when they got to Showtime they probably think they hit the jackpot.

Vice's news reporting is great but entertainment-wise? Ehhh, I'd rather just watch Comedy Central or Adult Swim for that type of stuff.
Honestly, I've heard some iffy stuff from a friend that worked there for a bit a year or two back. She said the perks were good, but the culture was not.

Sad to realize. But now I understand how jews turned in other jews.

People like paris from cnn were snitching on folks. Just to get a seat next to the dogs food bowl. But hey, at least it's inside the house!

People will sell other folks out. No color lines on that front.

I only watch Viceland for My House, I don't even watch Desus and Mero. And I heard that show may not be picked up for a second season...

So did Viceland really just eliminate POC from their channel lineup in the span of 2 weeks?
