As I posted that I forgot about jack Nicholson. Hmm. I'll allow it...

Yeah, when it said Origin I assumed they meant the Origin story of the DCEU Joker, but after looking at some of the other replies I guess
it's a separate standalone origin story under a different branding/universe?

The Joker isn't that interesting of a character that there should be a movie about him, but do ya thing WB.

Who the fuck needs an origin story of the Joker ? Dafuq ? We already had one with the first Batman. That´s totally enough. Heck, even in TDK he played around with his origin because we never knew if he told the truth. And that´s why he was so great. Are there only morons at WB left or what? Jesus Christ man. They are sitting on billion dollar IP´s and don´t know what to do with them.

Giving the Joker an origin film is missing the entire point of the character.

I'm not sure we need another dark phoenix movie.

I've mentioned this before in other threads, but I don't think this will be a real "origin" movie for the Joker. I hope they do some weird story telling where things don't line up and you may only notice it at the very end where we find out that Joker has been the narrator the whole time talking to some doctor in Arkham (I'd even stay away from Harley all together). That way we don't know what's really true and it's just a fun story which doesn't cement any real origin for him.

WB already wasted the acting talents of an acclaimed actor on a poorly written, poorly conceived Joker in Suicide Squad, i hope they don't repeat the same mistake with Joaquin Phoenix . . . . also for f*ck sake, why the hell does the Joker need an origin story (or stories)? He works best as a foil.

I swear, WB gives the impression that it greenlights movies not based on some creative plan but rather based on whoever analytics data deems as their most popular DC characters regardless if its appropriate for the character or not. At least for me, that explains why they trying so hard to make someone with a histrionic disorder like Harley into some kind of star/heroine/rolemodel? F*ck sake, use Batgirl!

Great actor, great character.
But not fit for a solo movie. Joker should always be used sparingly. And he should never have a name or a 100% confirmed origin.
That's why if they didn't want to use Batman, having him in Suicide Squad was such a great idea that they wasted spectacularly. Oh well.

Zero interest in this right now but hopefully my concerns will be proven wrong. And I have no doubts that he'll deliver a good performance of course.

The clash of emotions that the Joker shouldn't have an origin movie but they got one of my favourite actors

Only way I see multiple jokers working is the different actors showing of his split/ different personalities (maybe have the actors show up in a movie where he is seen as having just different facets of beeing crazy). Like his self image changes etc

i don't read comics but wasn't one of the defining features of joker that nobody knew who he was or where he came from.

also the joker became the joker in his mid 40s?

DCU or whatever it's called is a mess. We don't need an origin movie for The Joker. It's a waste of time and won't be cannon in the end.

Sounds fine.

There's no reason there can't be multiple takes on a character or one off stories. DC animation does it all the time. The MCU isn't the de facto way to tell superhero stories.

At least we get a brief reprieve from the Leto's Joker.
Question, how exactly does this work, there's only a few years apart from Phoenix and Leto and Leto looks much younger even though he's older?

I don't know why or how this is happening, but Phoenix doesn't pick bad scripts so let's have some faith in him.

So this has no relation at all to the DCU right?
Otherwise this makes absolutely zero sense

The DCEU is actually The Batman Cinematic Universe

Really... how many Batman-related movies is coming out soon?

- The Batman
- Batgirl
- Birds of Prey
- Gotham City Sirens
- The Joker
- Suicide Squad 2 (mostly Batman villains)

This movie sounds like a bad idea but I have to imagine/hope that Phoenix and Scorsese saw something worthwhile in the script to attach their names to this.
