538 has an article up about Federer's win percentage when he takes the first point on his serve. It's 97.1% for the year (100% at Wimbeldon). The best of anyone, even the Servebots. He also hasn't lost a service game this year when he's up 40-0.

It's so weird seeing federer wear a uniqlo polo, i didn't even know uniqlo have a sportswear section.

And the commentators are gushing over federer, one is saying how his stable family man image is a big part of his appeal...in 5 languages. Gosh is andy murray commenting today? I can't imagine how he would deal with the crazy fanboys of federer (and presumably nadal too) commenting with them.

What are the chances Del Potro beats Nadal? Is Federer the favorite?

Del Potro could beat Nadal. But probably not on these courts. Simon gave Del Potro enough trouble with good defence, so Nadal should be able to beat him easily enough. These courts don't give Del Potro quite enough height to just attack off as many balls as he'd like to. But, that big serve, and an ability to attack Nadals serve, could trouble Nadal.

Federer is the favorite on paper, absolutely. The number 1 seed. Won it last year. But if Cilic was healthy last year, he probably would've beaten Federer in last years final.

Federer is clearly not as good as he used to be, but so good that still lets him keeping winning slams. He started winning slams again because he switched racquets. Switching to a bigger head, makes his backhand so much more solid, less of liability. But his serve is also not as accurate and deadly as it used to be. That will be a problem against Novak or Nadal. Although on balance it seems to have made him an all around better player, as evidenced by this late slam resurgence. Particularly, playing with this new head makes him far better against Nadal, who focused on Feds backhand exclusively and easily. Basically you have a Fed who is not as sharp as usual, because of his age, but the new head has given his game a bit of a new lease.

Novak or Nadal could take down Federer for sure. Although, none of these three are at their absolute best, of course. Novak has been playing into form, too.

not liking what i'm seeing from federer in the second set. if he loses this one i think he's just barely the favorite to win the match.

I mean it's really a rare thing, you know, for a superstar like him becoming a real family man with no gossip whatsoever revolving his personal life. One of the major reasons I am a big fan of him.

That was a tight set

Federer ties his record for most consecutive sets won at Wimbledon. (2nd all time at any GS)

Federer's ground game is a bit suspect though

only english and american commentators think that speaking more than one language is special and he doesn't speak five (fluently anyway).

This is Feds best surface. Much better than Australia. And when it's hot he likes it even better. His game is at its best when it's bouncing low.

That 2008 final. Well that was one of the most bouncy Wimbledons, and in 2007 it was less bouncy. It will depend a lot on what the Wimbledon caretakers have decided how the court should be this year. Fed will want it fast and skiddy, low bouncing.
