If the discussion was about Switch only titles, then it would have been Super Mario Odyssey: that game was designed with the hardware, that's where the magic comes in.
- It uses motion controls for new moves, very hardcore tricks
- It uses HD Rumble in meaningful ways.
- it has single joycon co-op (it's more of a bonus but a skilled cappy is very handy to reach certain moons).

SMO is not just a fantastic game on its own, but also a fantastic showcase for the hardware.

But since you included Wii U games, i have to vote Breath Of The Wild: there's just a lot more on that game, i love sometimes just to get lost on that world and experiment new things.

I guess I would say Odyssey, but honestly, nothing from Nintendo has stuck out for me yet this generation. They were either massively disappointing (BOTW, Xenoblade) or really safe (Splatoon 2, the ports). Odyssey is the only game I think is good, and then, it's just good. Suffers the problem Crash 3/Spyro 3/Sly 3 did where it focuses too much on gimmicks with Cappy and suffers in the raw platforming front.

Honestly Switch has just been a Indis console at the moment, with all the Nintendo games just being... Meh really. Hope Smash or Bayo 3 change that but disappointed so far.

Wii U it's either Hyrule Warriors or Bayo 2, if they count.

Now, when you say "this generation" does that include the 3DS? Because if so, that changes things.

I hate this game but even I can't deny it's superiority over all other Nintendo games. BOTW is Nintendo's GOTG and it was a launch title. God bless them.

It's Zelda for sure but I loved Xenoblade soooooooo much. If it wasn't for the performance issues it may have been a tie (MAYBE) but Zelda is no doubt the best NIntendo and maybe even the best game of this generation.

I guess I'd have to give it to BOTW. It's strange, because both BOTW and Odyssey were pretty big letdowns for me and not really what I wanted from either franchise. I honestly enjoyed Xenoblade more than both of them and spent more time playing it, but I know on an objective basis it shouldn't be winning any best game awards.

I dunno, I think Smash is way more popular than Splatoon or Xenoblade. Also better.

more popular than xeno for sure

better? ehhhhhh, not feeling that. Smash 4 is cool and all but it's missing too much to really make that kind of argument. Smash for Switch will hopefully be much better. maybe next year it can shed its Other status

Personally, it is Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Realistically, it is Breath of the Wild easily.

Can we wait for the gen to be more than... a year and 4 months ?

It feels like the choice is limited to a handful of titles only right now.

It's Breath of the Wild for sure but Tropical Freeze and Super Mario Odyssey aren't far behind at all. I kind of burned myself playing the Crash Trilogy and when I hopped over to Tropical Freeze to record a couple of levels, I was astonished just how much more enjoyable it is. Tropical Freeze is about as good as sidescrollers get.

Meh at Wii U games counting. It's not this generation for me at all.

That's not how generations work and if Wii U counted why aren't the great Wii U games listed...

BotW is not only the best Nintendo game this generation, is the best videogame ever.

I'm impressed with the game releases Nintendo managed to deliver during 2017: Odyssey is a really good platformer game with crazy polish and fun, XC2 is an incredible JRPG with good exploration/combat and one of my favorite character casts in any game and Splatoon 2 has both the style and the gameplay (and a good but really strange lore).

Even so, BotW stands out as the best gameplay experience I've ever had

I guess it depends on who is making the poll. Pretty sure Smash outscored both titles. I mean, I was gonna vote Zelda regardless, and I love all 4 games in the poll. I just think Smash would get more votes than the other two. Mario kart as well.

I didn't like Breath of the Wild very much, while Super Mario Odyssey made Mario cool again for the first time in ten years.

If we are including Wii U, Super Mario 3D World definitely has a case.

Also, why are some of you saying Xenoblade is your favorite but you still gave it to Zelda? Isn't the best game the one you had most fun with?

Xenoblade Chronicles 2. But that can change with the arrival of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate or Pokemon in 2019.

For me it's a real tossup between these two:

220px-Super_Mario_3D_World_box_art.jpg

Arguably the best Zelda and best Mario games ever respectively, released on the same day no less.

Odyssey was enjoyable but I don't really feel like coming back to it.
BOTW was fantastic. Couldn't let the game go or stop thinking about it for 2 months.

BOTW was just something else, made me feel something I hadn't felt since I'd become an adult with video games.

This. I don't remember the last time a game made me feel like this. I think the last time I felt this magic exude from a game was Mario 64.

Those two games just made me feel something different that I didn't know games could do. Game-changers.

BotW is my GOAT.

Sorry splatoon, your unskippable opening is the only reason I didn't pick you.

Tropical freeze if you count ports, Odyssey I guess if you don't although I wouldn't say it was a classic or anything

Xenoblade 2 is the most disappointing game I've ever played

Xenoblade 2 for me.
One of my favourite RPGs ever with an outstanding soundtrack and gorgeous landscapes.
The battle system is fantastic and I love it's cast of characters.
Oh and the updates/dlc Monolith Soft have done for this game has been brilliant - both making the game more accessible for newcomers and more challenging for veterans.
