Under the act, anyone "wearing a mask" or in disguise who "injures, oppresses, threatens, or intimidates any person … in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege" would be subject to a fine or up to 15 years in prison.

I have no problems with the language here, but I'm not sure how fair the enforcement of the law would play out

Protesters who engage in violence are already subject to criminal liability in all 50 states. There's absolutely no justification for federal legislation in this area.

Even if this wasn't clearly seemingly unconstitutional, I don't see how Congress would have the authority to dictate what people wear on non-federal property.

This will probably not go anywhere other than the media attention it's receiving now.

But I still implore people to call their representatives, especially if one lives in a Republican district. The fear of God needs to be put into anyone on record of supporting this.

The white moderate has nothing to fear from the nazi. They won't get beaten, lynched, or shot for how they look. The white moderate prefers order and their own personal comfort over the plight of minorities. The same could be arguably said for some white liberals calling for civility when dealing with the far-right.

Yep. It's embarrassing how so many of my fellow white people have decided their soul is nothing and morals don't matter.

I guess until their families are directly affected, they will close their eyes. At this rate, it won't be long.

Imagine trying to be against Anti-Fascism.

Imagine admitting you are Pro-Fascism because you are scared of protest.

Not passing the Senate, and probably not the House either. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it did pass the House.

Lots of crazy shit gets made into a bill and goes nowhere.
Yup. If I was in the house I could write a bill making it legal to fuck my neighbors dog. That doesn't mean it's going anywhere.

The US is actively targeting protestors of fascism and now the GOP wants the efforts codified as law. I don't think I wanna live here anymore.

Relative comfort kills even the most ardent revolutionary. Most of the middle class white population is simply not affected by any of the administration's morally repugnant behavior. They think people that are affected are whining or "librul tears."

But luckily they are not antifa
Doesn't matter. This is what it actually says. It would clearly effect the KKK:

Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, while in disguise, including while wearing a mask, injures, oppresses, threatens, or intimidates any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 15 years, or both.

Congratulations militant white liberals. You're one step closer to becoming a minority.

It really is transparent what these guys are attempting and if we really do fail to flip either side of Congress they will push measures like this through.

Infact in that scenario I think Trump would be even more likely to not leave office because he would be getting open support for fascist policies.

It wouldn't even matter how they openly rejected him for the family seperation debacle. This is clearly a policy aimed to surgically attack dissidents part of the majority they want to prop up in this country.

Can't be "Pro-Fascism" just as they can't be "Anti-Choice".

They'll come up with some cute phrase to counter antifa like "Pro-Law" or something.

I assume they'll just double-down on calling them domestic terrorists while simultaneously ignoring the domestic terrorism from white males we have suffered for years.

I wouldnt expect this legislation to go anywhere or hold up in court, but it's still fucking insane that they are even trying this. Just tells you that none of these conservatives are actual proponents of the first amendment.

You have to be arrested to be charged.

How often during these protest clashes do the Nazis get arrested, compared to the people protesting the Nazis?

Yeah.

I have a feeling it doesn't.

The letter of the law and enforcement are two different things.

To those who wrote it, AntiFa is the actual boegyman destroying America, not the good old boys who marches in Charleston.

If they arrest and charge them, maybe. Issue is, like drug charges, they likely won't charge certain types of folks like they do others.

True. Fuck that law.

Looks like it only matters if you get grabbed on site.

Either way, wear your mask. They gonna charge you regardless, esp without a mask.

I will LMAO when the first Klan member is convicted under the Antifa Act. But I am not sure it will ever happen.

How is this law constitutional? Clothes and such have to be protected via the first amendment. Regardless of the morality of the law, I question the validity of it.

Doesn't seem like it is, but then again its not a law yet.

I don't think it'll ever get passed anyway. It's a frivolous thing that probably will never even come to a vote.

Antifa have already become worse than the KKK they protest. They are proof that liberalism is the same as Naziism. They are beginning to kill even. Do you want smokehouse sauce on that chicken sandwich?

I saw this yesterday and thought about making a thread. The text basically just adds a bonus penalty to existing law for wearing a mask while committing an existing crime which while being monumentally dumb GOP bullshit, isn't the end of the world like some are painting is as. The ellipsis from the article in the OP is extremely misleading.

Police are explicitly excluded because of course they are lol.

I don't think it is limited to criminal acts. "injures, oppresses, threatens, or intimidates any person … in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege" is a fairly loosely defined activity.
