I finally collected my first bounty in Flinthook.

Yeah, I'm going to be playing this for some time to come.

Made it a ways into Bomber Crew. It's great! Very much like a smaller-ship version of FTL in ways, i.e. moving around your crew to respond to things. I love the idea of scanning the skies and spotting enemies/targets, etc. There are other little touches that make it awesome as well, such as your plane taking visible damage as it's getting shot up.

I need more time with it to come close to a final verdict, but so far it is in no way shape or from a waste of time or money having it on the Switch. I look forward to playing it and the eventual dlc.

How is the framerate on Switch? Is it 30 or 60? Loading times?

Wow I guess I dodged a bullet with Battle Chasers, sounds disappointing, this is why I'm extremely picky with who I trust when looking fot RPG impressions. Turn based combat is tricky because you need a good, engaging combat system but unless you also nail encounter design and difficulty balance in general, it's useless.

Don't get Battlechasers. It's...grindy and unnecessarily so. If it's a choice between Battlechasers and Ys VIII, go with Ys.

Again, its worth repeating, Cosmic Star Heroine is on pre-sale right now for $13.50. I can't overstate the quality of that game. It's like Shovel Knight and Hollow Knight as games that are absolutely mis-priced at $14.99 (actually they fixed Shovel Knight + all its additional content for $24.50).

Pre-order Cosmic Star Heroine if you want a great turn based JRPG. (or check out that Banner Saga game, I haven't yet but heard excellent things)

I am going to be more cautious recommending Cosmic Star Heroine. It's a good game. I am not as effusive with the praise. I feel like it can drag, and at a point the battles lose a lot of engagement.

Still a good game, and a decent value, but it isn't some amazing game. It is a great evolution of the Zeboyd games though, and I would recommend people watch some videos, read some more impressions etc. Listen to the playthroughs Kat Bailey did for USgamer on Axe of the Bloodgod podcast. It isn't a universal JRPG for everyone.

Really wish it had an auto-save function of some sort. I wandered into a cave with Cthulu in it, was under leveled and only had the option to retry the fight or quit and reload a save that was an hour or so old. It really killed my motivation to keep playing.

I bought Miles & Kilo based on an earlier recommendation by Tebunker in this thread. Surprisingly good game, perfect for portable play and with good (but not overused) HD Rumble. The game is a mix between normal game mechanics segments (the boy) and autorunner segments (the dog).

If you'd like a NES-style game with short and varied levels designed for speed running, this might be a game for you.

Cosmic Star Heroine doesn't have the universal critical praise that Shovel Knight and Hollow Knight have. Its metascore is about 10-15 points lower than those games on every system they are on.

Maybe they should have called it Cosmic Knight.

'RXN -Raijin-' is currently on sale in the Japanese eShop at the price of ¥999.

It's not only a 76% of discount, it also should be noted that this game was retired from the European eShop months ago, to never come back.

I have also found this web selling Japanese eShop cards at a much better price than PlayAsia. It's called Sea Gamer Mail.

https://www.seagm.com/nintendo-wii-3ds-eshop-prepaid-card-japan

Including the Paypal fee, I have paid €9.11 for a ¥1000 Japanese card.

It has been delivered in the same minute of my purchase and I have activated the card without problems.

Downloading the game now.

So hurray! This was the only Switch exclusive shmup that I was missing in my library.

Yo 20XX is the real deal, thanks for the recommendation, guys. I'm digging it a lot.

No button binding is annoying but it wouldn't be much of a problem if I could dash by tapping forward twice... I keep doing it instinctively lol. That aside, the character and the dash especially feel a bit too slow, but I think it's simply to make the movement upgrades more meaningful so it's fine.

For sure, I already own it on Vita but I'm just waiting for the right time to jump in.

There's a specific option to dash by tapping forward twice in the settings menu.

You can dash by double tapping. MMZ gave me the muscle memory for the double tap for the rest of my life.

There are moments that push me like Celeste did. The game has a specific rhythm that I really like.

Speaking of Miles and Kilo this is how I got turned on to the devs first game Kidd Tripp

even if you hate twitter, follow @ indiegamerchick , she is constantly giving away keys for indie games with the requirements that you give feedback to the developer, promote the game a smidge, and promote the giveaway. Totally worth the follow, also she is a snarky millenial so I am sure some of you will love her.... *** Shaking my fist at the clouds as I am an old man ***

Played the first couple of missions in Bomber Crew. It's really fun. It's got that frantic ship management like FTL and a satisfying tagging system for controlling ship direction and firing on enemies. I have a feeling it is gonna get hard soon. There is a slowdown feature when moving crew members as well as a dedicated slowdown button with a cool down timer that can be used at any time. You lose a small bonus for activating it but not much. I'm sure it will come in handy. I'd recommend checking it out if you're interested.

It's actually quite really good too so far.
It sounds weird but it works cuz the roguelike made levels are done well one of the best i seen cuz it truly feels like a super metroid roguelike and plays like one.

Yeah this and dead cells will keep me busy for hundreds of hours for sure.

Good roguelikes in both my favorite genre's on the Switch love it. Now eagarly waitin for dead cells release date so i can switch from one to the other when i need some randomnized metroidvania goodness.

Maybe they should have called it Cosmic Knight.
A lot of the mixed reviews are because the game was buggy when it first came out for PC and PS4. All those bugs have been ironed out and the Switch version is a much more polished product.

It also didn't help that CSH originally came out a week after Persona 5. So a lot of publications were either making unfair comparisons, or just plain ignoring the game. Metacritic should never be the first and last look you take at a title, but I find that to especially be the case with Cosmic Star Heroine and it's particularly unlucky release history.

Cosmic Star Heroine is currently at a 90% user score on Steam which admittedly isn't as good as Shovel Knight (96%) or Hollow Knight (94%) but is at least in the same general ballpark. Hardly any Metacritic sites reviewed the game at launch (due to me getting codes out to reviewers late plus the close proximity to Persona 5's release date) & the game was very buggy at launch (which has since been fixed). I expect the Switch Metacritic score for the game will be drastically better since the game is built for portability, it has all the fixes & improvements we've put into the game since the initial launch, and it's a fantastic port.

To be fair, I am actually rebuying it on Switch.

It didn't click for me on PS4 but I wager a lot of that was having to sit in my office to play it and I honestly believe you when you say it has been improved for portability.

I know you've talked to Kat Bailey in the past, and I am wondering if you heard her thoughts on Ace of the Bloodgod as she played through it? I tended to agree with some of her thoughts as they aligned with what I had played, but I am still willing to give another for portable.

I believe in general they did, Kat mentions that she found it too easy to get locked in on a routine in combat thay works. Just find a group of skills that work together and use that routine in each fight.

Cool, cool. That's a big reason why your party keeps changing up for a lot of the game - to force people out of their combat comfort zone by making them try out new characters & abilities.

Played the 5 first levels of 'RXN -Raijin-', is not a good game. It's in a tier of quality close to some of the worst doujin shmups that I have played based in commercial animes.

Indeed, they have wasted a lot of money in producing animated videos, vocal songs, hiring a cast of professional actors and also hiring a lot professional graphic designers coming from the manga scene.

But at the end, they don't even try to design a shmup, with a game filled with unskippable dialogues and really short levels breaking the flow of a good designed arcade game, whose only purpose is to tell a story.

Plus a bad performance, it doesn't matter if you play in portable or in docked mode. But I can live with the bad performance, and this is not the greatest problem of the game.

Only recommended to heavy collectors of Japanese shmups who really want to have any released game in their systems.

Specially disappointing coming from Gulti, a company that I respect a lot, funded by ex-Seibu Kaihatsu members and that in the last generation produced the amazing 'Mamorukun Curse!' together with G.rev.

How a company that has a deep knowledge of the genre has ended producing this trainwreck of game and wasting this pile of money by using the budget of a big production, it's something that I don't understand.

Does Inti Creates ever put their games on sale? I feel like I've seen them at any point since the Switch launched. $40 for the Azure Striker pack is still a big pill to swallow.

Yeah my disappointment was the quality of the writing, its very amateur compared with a higher budget game. OTOH its incredibly cheap, and apart from that issue, its a good game.

I feel like it can drag, and at a point the battles lose a lot of engagement.

This is a curse of 99% of the JPRGS. Even when they try to design hard combats based in the strategy, at the end, there are too much variables affecting the combats and different ways of playing the game, that if you are a completist doing each dungeon, getting each object, in the middle part the difficulty of the game will disappear because you have overpowered characters.

A notable example of this was 'Skies of Arcadia', in the beginning, each combat requires a carefully planned strategy, specially in the bosses. But in the middle part, if you are trying to explore the full map, the difficulty of the game will disappear.

Even the Atlus games, that I consider the best balanced games in the genre, suffer from this. An example of this is 'Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey', starting in the middle part you will have overpowered demons, making the game too easy in comparison with the first dungeons.

And in 'Etrian Odyssey', one of the hardest games in the genre, there were combinations of classes breaking the balance of the game.

And I consider the first 'Etrian Odyssey' as the JRPG with the best design of combats that I have played in my entire life.

There are very few games that have been able to maintain the challenge until the last battle.

'Fire Emblem' is one of these notable examples. But because in 'Fire Emblem', the only way to play is to be a hardcore perfectionist. If not, in the middle of the game, you will find the opposite problem. Underpowered characters making the missions impossible without losing a lot of units forever.

mood : Seriously considering a petition to bring Full Metal Furries to the switch.

it has been a while that I played a non switch game that felt so PERFECT for the system.
It is a class based beat em up with rpg progression and hilarious writting by the creators of Rogue Legacy. Basically Castle Crashers on steroids
It is CREATED to be played coop so much that singleplayer has you changing between 2 characters/classes in a Marvel vs Capcom way.
Besides being a beat em up, there are more reasons why it is perfect for the switch : Like the main buttons and sticks needed for the most part of the game is EXACTLY what you have one a sideways joycon. And it is SO EASY to drop in and drop off. And it is a beat em up with lots of checkpoints and saves between stages so perfect for 5 minute handheld play that gives you some progress.

So would you guys sign and spread?
Anyone has any confirmation this is possible (as in microsoft didn't helped finance the game)?

Because if nintendo wants 30 indies it will need some GOOD stuff to balance the generic =P

The developer actually replied to the question of whether they would bring it to Switch. Outlook: Not likely.

But it'd be very cool if it came to the Switch. I'd be in.

I'm enjoying so much of 'Rogue Aces', that now 'Namco Museum' is one of my most desirable games in the eShop, once it's on sale again.

Why?

Because all in 'Rogue Aces' is like an updated and roguelike version of 'Sky Kid'.

From the rotating shooting, to the landing mechanic, the mission structure, the construction of the terrain, the use of bombs, the type of enemies...

All in 'Rogue Aces' is a love letter to this Namco arcade classic.

Indeed, Mike Daw from Infinite State Games always cited 'Sky Kid' as his all-time favorite game.

With 'Sky Kid' and a personal favorite of mine such as 'Rolling Thunder' included in the package, now it's much more easy to justify the 15 euros price tag of the game when it's discounted, the equivalent of two Hamster Arcade Archives releases.

The thing that has bummed me in the past is that they included the arcade version of 'Rolling Thunder 2', but not the GOAT Mega Drive version, which includes 2 extra stages and new cinematics between the missions, with a goofy James Bond film style in its narrative.

And talking about arcade releases, 'City Connection' has been announced as one of the next Hamster releases.

From all the remaining PS4 Arcade Archives exclusives, now I only need 'Wonder Boy' and 'Bomb Jack'.
