Just wear a Canadian hat/shirt or something. I don't think they'd be able to distinguish the US accent from Canadian. They sound pretty similar. My UK friend told me all American accents sound the same to him.

How can you be from l.a. and be worried about being in London? Do you never step down from your house on the hills?

Do I have to tell people I am from Canada or Mexico, instead of the US?

Is there danger? Should I explain I went to protest too? Im really trying to see the beautiful castles and history around London.

I am here now, and it got a little tense on Sunday when I was out at pubs watching the World Cup, but as soon as you start conversing and people realize you're not a racist jingoistic hate monger, you're fine.

I don't mean any disrespect. I haven't been to London in 25 years.

Last time I was there it was cool to be from America, and everyone was super nice.

No My wife and I are ultra aware and cool people from Los Angeles.

You guys have kind of calmed my fears, I was really thinking we were going to be chased around. haha I know that sounds ridiculous, but the anti american sentiment seems the strongest it has even been in my lifetime.

Yes, worry excruciatingly about what others think and try to pretend you are from another country just like every cool person I know.

This thread is hilarious. I go to London a few times a year for work and no one gives a shit where you are from because London is such an international city. I do like the idea of op shitting himself in a pub when someone randomly decides to find and punch some Americans.

Listen... I get being anxious about things, but you're way overthinking this. If people were really jumping random Americans in London like wild, you'd have heard about it by now. Just enjoy your trip.

Yeah I had worried about that for like a hot minute, as i was planning a London trip next year and was thinking "those guys REALLY hate us right now... not that I blame them", but being black i was like "yeah, no way I can not look American. They'll probably run my ass out of town. But then my GF told me to stop being a moron and we'll be fine. So im good now lol.

Why do Americans think the world cares so much about them lol?

Because there will be protests against Trump and it seems his administration are scaremongering normal Americans from going to the UK. All nationalities are welcome in the UK (perhaps not Croatians right now lol) and London is one of the most diverse places in the world.

As a Londoner, you can come here, we wouldn't give a toss. Some people might fancy your accent but in all honesty we really wouldn't care unless you're going to come here and sing praises about Trump in which case we can direct you to the balloon baby which is doing test runs and will float around the day he visits. But in all honesty, you're likely to not get any extra attention in the city.

As long as you drop the obnoxious attitude of thinking Americans are so important we actually care about them you'll be fine.
I was going to encourage OP, but your post changed my mind. I agree with you, why would any random person care where OP is from? Any person with half a brain would realize the president of your country doesn't define you.

I don't mean any disrespect. I haven't been to London in 25 years.

Hey dude seriously, you should stop playing the victim, even if you're joking at this point. You're coming across as disingenuous now.

on our school trip to London, my Austrian school class was told to make it clear to everyone who asks that we're absolutely not German, no Sir, lest the locals might get a little too stabby stabby. True story

They told you wrong and "stabby stabby"?

Calling BS on that.

Bringing children from Austria and warn them it might be " stabby stabby" by locals?

no that was really the reason given to us. There were a lot of knife attacks in London at the time back then so I guess they were a little worried
I'm German myself, but I dare say I can do a pretty convincing Swiss accent

Sorry dude missed the fact it was this thread about London.

Dude it'ss safe as fook and the Police are awesome :)

They should have never brought you to the areas for a starter as a school trip anyway.

wow no, we like Americans here in the UK, that said I'm from Wales not England, but I have been to London, you may still meet the odd rude person, I have, but thats the same everywhere.

Also the English may be miserable because they just got knocked out of the World Cup last night, but they won't hate you.

They really are trying to put off you guys seeing the world huh?
