It'd be nice when they eventually roll out Dolby Vision to the UHD Blu Ray Drive. That would probably be a $10 - $15 license though, I'd assume, similar to Dolby Atmos.

I thought HDR10+ was a hardware thing? What does it add over current HDR10?
HDR10 has static metadata; HDR10+ and Dolby Vision have dynamic metadata. Since this is one of the biggest differences between HDR10 and DV, adding it to the license-free HDR10 is potentially a big deal.
This is huge for an LG B7 owner like me.
This would mean a free auto switch from calibrated HDR Game Mode to Dolby Vision Cinema Mode when watching Netflix TV Shows/Movies, without the need to use the TV Netflix in-built app, and still leveraging Dolby Atmos for Headphones at the same time.

I'm not clued up on these things. I have a Panasonic 2017 4K HDR 10 TV set. Would I be able to get Dolby Vision or would my TV not work with it?
Indeed, good point. Although not all HDR content on Netflix is DV.
Thing is, XBO now supports that new automatic game mode trigger (which auto triggers game mode on your TV when you start a game, and disables it when you leave a game), but your TV has to support it too.. sadly my C6 OLED doesn't. Do the new OLEDs?
If DV is coming to streaming, there's no doubt in my mind it's coming to disc as well at some point. Great news.
I think that C7 doesn't support that either.
Not too bad when Xbox Dolby Vision support comes, as the console will surely auto switch Picture Modes from Game/HDR Game (with low latency, when gaming) to Dolby Vision Cinema (with higher lag but best PQ, when opening Netflix, even before loading contents), workarounding the limitations of 2016/2017 OLEDs.
As Dolby Vision licensing is now settled for Xbox, I am also very confident that DV support will also be extended to Movies & TV and Blu-Ray apps by the end of the year, because why not ;)
Are you sure you're not thinking of Amazon Prime Video? I'm pretty certain all HDR Netflix titles are Dolby Vision, where only a few Amazon titles are DV, with the rest HDR10. (I could be wrong, though, of course.)
Nonetheless, this is exciting news! Of all of my devices I have, I can either pick Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos with supported titles in Netflix, but now I won't have to compromise on either.
The 18xx doesnt matter to when the build reaches retail.
Weve been testing 180X for a long time, doesnt necessarily mean the features in our build make it to market at any specific time.
1805 had groups yet that didnt show up till much later retail. Not MAY.
So assume we are aiming for August with the features stated, but in terms of build we are on 1810.
The next major build will be 1811 and that might still show up before the August update.
Dont read too much into the 18XX.
Alpha and Alpha Skip Ahead users are the only ones testing 1810. The 18 indicates year. The 10 indicates release month. This is how Xbox updates have always been. You can see when the current version of that build was finalized right after the 1810

No? 1810 is the first Red Stone 5 (RS5) build for Xbox One. The current build that was compiled on July 6th of 2018 at 7:20pm PDT (180706-1920) for release to Alpha and Skip Ahead members.

Awesome! But my AV receiver doesn't support Dolby Vision so I'll instead have to just hook it directly to my TV and get compressed 5.1 audio over HDMI ARC, which sucks.
It was pretty obvious IMO that Blu-Ray support for Dolby Vision would only be a matter of time, but they had to already know it was coming when they made the streaming announcement, so why did they wait till now to make this distinction? It only made for added confusion and angst when it was announced for streaming only at first...
Hopefully a mod can edit the title to reflect this.

The original announcement was only about streaming.It was later clarified (as mentioned above) that discs will also be supported.
Yeah so awesome. I cant wait. I have all my fingers crossed that next gen it is supported out if the box and many games use Dolby Vision. I just bought an new TV and the one i wanted didnt support Dolby Vision so no buy. Got one that supports it. To me it really is much better than HDR. Cant wait to rewatch Saving Private Ryan again!

For a console platform holder you usually focus on the things which have some kind of demand and business opportunity. HDR10+ is not there yet. Also, HDR10+ will arrive in full force when TV manufacturers adapt to HDMI 2.1 in their TVs as it is part of the spec.
2017 and 2018 LG OLED TVs have active HDR mode for movies which is similar to HDR10+ anyway.

Dolby Vision on UHD Blu-Ray is technically kind of weird and a little like 3D Blu-Ray. It stores an HDR10 core video track, and Dolby Vision is a special differential track that overlays the HDR10 core track. So it's this weird two-layer thing that players have to know how to handle, and I'm pretty sure has extra processing requirements too since it's not just feeding the disc's data as-is to the TV, it has to actually do some pretty significant work first. Streaming is different, in that the providers just have 3 different versions of the 4K video stream (SDR, HDR10, Dolby Vision) as a finalized video track, and your streaming setup picks the one that makes the most sense for your setup. In other words, it's a lot simpler technically to support streaming Dolby Vision than UHD Blu-Ray Dolby Vision. But the licensing can also get in the way, probably.

Just got this update within the last two days or so. Has it broke Dolby Atmos for Headphones for anyone else? When checking Netflix with the first episode of Altered Carbon, certain audio appears a bit garbled like the Netflix sound at the beginning, some music in the episode, and some background sounds. Actual voice dialogue appears fine. When I switch off Dolby Atmos and enable Windows Sonic the audio is absolutely fine. It only affects Dolby Atmos audio, playing regular audio with Dolby Atmos enabled is fine.
