in terms of maximizing financial gains I feel Activision is making a huge mistake releasing Blackout their Battle Royal mode as a sub game.

$60.00 for the base game to see if you even like it will clearly hurt sales, I know people who won't buy it just for the Battle Royal because they are just burnt out on the COD rinse and repeat gameplay formula.

if they would release the Blackout mode as it's own stand alone game for free and seasoned it with microstracationed it I feel they could at least be the second most popular Battle Royal out there.

Lack of a switch port is beyond belief to me they are just passing up free money! (Unless like Nintendo said they are going to surprise us) which I doubt at this point but maybe!

Sure it will still sell and make a shit ton of money but I believe it could have been a real alternative to fortnite as a competitive esport. However As it stands now iI don't believe it has a chance to pull the Fortnite express over.

Do you believe they should have released this as a free stand alone and what can possibly make this a better game than Fortnite?

I also wonder if they will make it more casual friendly or straight go Hardcore knowing Fortnite has the casuals?

MODS can you edit title to I feel Like Activision is making a mistake by including BlackOut Mode in COD IIII

Edited because: Phones are horrible for writting! Stupid autocorrect

The button "export to Switch and make it work like the other platforms" is not something that exists.
So, for "free money" here to be true, they would need not to pay their employees for the updates needed on code optimization, QA testing, assets changes etc... This often takes hundreds of hours of work per person involved.
Because that is absolutely not possible for them to make, "free money" here means paying devs for multiple weeks or months to port the game to a new platform.

I am pretty sure people who like COD, and Battle Royale games will probably buy the game for COD more than Blackout.
For those that only like Battle Royale games, I am pretty sure they would maybe have tested Blackout if it was free, but would have probably stayed on the one all their friends play.

Free-to-play is about getting as many players as possible, then monetizing them after.

Call of Duty is about already having a huge player base, getting them to pay $60, then monetizing them after anyway.

And the lack of a Switch port is probably a technical thing. They would probably prefer to spend their development resources on map DLC and a Battle Royale mode, rather than dedicating a team to a port that may be troubled anyway.

Money is made off microtransactions which means the game needs to be in as many hands as they can get to get that's revenue. I think it would have been a smarter move.

Trust me, that doesn't make a difference considering 2 years after Black Ops 3's launch they added NEW microtransactions and maps only available if you pre-ordered a brand new game. Activison aren't like that, they never will be.

I think it's pretty disingenuous to handwave COD's gameplay as "rinse and repeat". You might dislike Call of Duty, but let's not act like there aren't teams toiling away at making these games the best they can be (I had a lot of fun with Advanced Warfare last time I played it, btw, it didn't feel like some "rinse and repeat" experience at all). I also think this claim to people being "burnt" on COD is a little overt.

I can see where you are coming from, the Switch is obviously a huge success but expecting every title to be ported is a little far fetched don't you think?

BLOPS was coming to the Switch at some point, I think it was a victim of the general turmoil the project has been under.

Yeah, the multiplayer in AW was actually really fun to play. I'm one of those that don't really care much for COD anymore (and I'm someone who was totally obsessed with the games back when I was 13-15), but the mechanics in AW were so different from the norm that it made the gameplay really interesting in that game. Not sure why people hate the MP in that game so much. I guess it's because of the maps, but I really liked them too!

I'd be surprised if it doesn't eventually spin off into a standalone thing like CoD 4 Remastered.
Activision probably just want to absolutely max out potential sales for BLoP 4 first/not compete with themselves.

I think if Black Ops 4 had a campaign that Battle Royale might have been its own game, but alas BO4 has no campaign. So Activision needs to fill the void with something. Even if that something should have been free in the first place.

People will definitely pay $60 for Blackout alone if it becomes the next big thing. The Call Of Duty name still sells.

Everyone knows it's a mistake doing it but it's Activision, they don't give a damn.

BO4 seems to be such a shit value compared to previous COD games.

I doubt they're expecting people to buy the game for the battle royale only. Millions of people buy COD every year primarily for the MP as it is, this is just an extra mode. The lack of campaign makes for an interesting twist though, but I'm sure it will still sell a ton, people love the Black Ops games.

Better gameplay. Play a Black Ops game and then go play a match of Fortnite. CoD blows Fortnite away in terms of character movement and how to guns feels and shoot.
Oh and no building is a plus for me.

I agree

Same goes for the Battlefield BR. It should be a standalone offer if they want the games to thrive, at least. But I don't think they care

Its a checkmark on their list to mark off and I doubt they will include it 3 years down the line
