I am at the point where I think I am finally starting to actually like my Switch. I have been playing a ton of XC2 along with some Hollow Knight plus I have Octopath Traveler coming tomorrow and those will hopefully last me until the XC2 expansion. I have been pretty down on the Switch for a while now but I feel like it is finally coming into its own for me.

Lumines Remastered came out last month

Mega Man X Collection 1 and 2 coming July 24

Dead Cells August 7 (same day as Overcooked 2)

Okami HD August 9

Cosmic Star Heroine August 14.

A jam-packed summer for Nintendo Switch.

I seriously don't get how folks can say the summer is dry. Sure, if you only play Nintendo games - but it's a solid lineup!

Edit: You missed Ys VIII and Musynx, btw!
Their eyes are dry, or these folks live under the principle that a port is not a real game.

Hell, tomorrow I have Octopath and Captain Toad coming up, I'm still progressing through South Park and finished Crash Trilogy last Monday. I got my LRG copy of Timbleweed Park two days ago and there's Sonic Mania Plus next Tuesday. Yesterday I saw a friend play Ys VIII and the OST compelled me to buy it ASAP, too.

I'm overwhelmed, to say the least, postively though, but still. :lol

From this list I only have/are getting Octopath and Hollow Knight, but I'm still pretty pleased with the output. Quality over quantity in my case but I agree there's a lot there depending on what you've played or what you're looking for.

Please play Inside if you haven't.

from the OP:

you didn't really think this through, did you?
mjgrin.png
Considering how many people are mentioning it, I think it is unrealistic to "pretend" like they're not on other consoles like the OP suggest. As someone who owns a PS and a Switch I think it's 100% relevant to how you feel about the lineup. Hell, I am sure most people on here do own more than one system so...

Definitely has a lot to play but most were already available on other platforms so unless you own nothing but a switch it's just ok. Octopath is the only thing I am interested in on that list.

For me, I am playing all the games I missed on the Wii U at the moment, like Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 and tomorrow I'm on some brand new stuff with Octopath. I haven't touched my other systems lately at all because I have so many things on the Switch to play, it's helped with the summer drought.

It's been a terrible year for Switch for me. Only game that interests me is Smash and that's still months off.

Too many games I own on Wii U or other platforms...

I love how late ports and Indies doesn't count.
I think that I have over 100 games, from which I have finished more than the 50% and I'm keep buying new ones!

And people are claiming there's a Switch drought. I guess they weren't there during the Wii U days, now THAT was a drought. This is nothing compared to those bleak times.
There was a drought, Fortnite came and rained the Eshop along with HK, Aces dropped then YS & now OCTOPATH. Wii U was dark it was never that bad but it was getting bad for a console that was to combine two development pipelines.

Edit: Aces stinks, I'm glad it was first so they get it right with the true GOAT Mario Golf.

Meh. Most of the games in the OP are available elsewhere or are late ports. The only standout title is Octopath Traveler, which I am excited to finally play.

I realise Sushi Striker bombed, but it reviewed fairly well. So far I have bought The Lost Child, Octo expansion, and Octopath Traveler. Want to get Sushi, Ys, and Hollow Knight eventually. Oh and Cosmic Star Heroine in a few weeks.

These lists crack me up. How many people only have a Switch I would imagine its a small number. Hollow Night and Octopath absolutely are huge games for me personally and I don't think there is a drought at all but LOL at that list.

Why? I don't understand the issue, it's true. A lot of those games get knocked off the list so it in turn makes the summer the Switch is having worse for those individuals. I think what's amusing is people who can't handle those posts.

It's a pointless comment. With the huge amount of overlap that exists between systems, any lineup can be made to look worse than it is by putting it against another system that you already own. By this logic, the PS4 was a glorified doorstopper if you owned a PC for most of its lifetime.

Well, it works only if you dont own pretty much any gaming hardware apart from switch... that doesnt mean switch is killing anything :/

As you said, mamy of them are just ports or dlcs, so.. nah, not really killing anything.

I mean if you only play games on the Switch then sure. Someone like me that only uses it for console exclusives....well yeah it's very dry. Octopath will be the 4th game I have bought this year for Switch and it's the first one I couldn't play on something else in some form since I skipped Mario Tennis for it's lack of modes at the moment.

The "if you own another system" posts are as amusing as they are predictable.

Some of these games are objectively much more enjoyable on an handheld (cause designed for short sessions).

As someone who has to cover Switch I really wish they would slow the heck down! It's hell trying to keep up with all this. It's not just a few minor releases either, it feels like every week we have something huge on our plate. I just caught up with Hollow Knight which is my current GOTY next to Celeste.

Don't even dare to say such things. lol

I'd always take this madness over some of those quiet months we got earlier this year.

And if there was a thread about how amazing the PS4 lineup is that consist on 90% ports of old games available on other console than you should mention it. Pretending like these games don't exist is equally pointless.

Almost all these games have been out for years, or are expansions.

If you only have a switch, then that's great, but otherwise nintendo is definitely not "killing it" this summer.

I'm putting critically acclaimed games on the list and upcoming games that will likely be critically acclaimed. It's your interpretation of the list that is laughable.

It really depends, if you have another console it's pretty lackluster. If you are only a switch person, they yeah I guess it would be nice. Even still, if I was switch only, like 2 or maybe 3 games interest me from that list.

I think a lot of us already played most of those, honestly.

Great games no doubt but not a lot of new must haves

Bomb Chicken too! Came out just today and I'm having fun with it for sure. Is it a multiplat release? Haven't seen it shown off on any other system...

Objectively is an overstatement but I can definitely see some people double dipping on some games. I'd love to play Crash portable and the thought of playing Okami that way is just... I can't wait.

I own a Wii U, PC, and PS4

I've been drowning in Switch games

guess it's a ymmv thing (like literally everything else is)

games are games though, day and date, late, indie. it's weird that we still have to do this after all these years tbh

Really? Late releases of multiplats and indies?

So Nintendo's somehow killing it with this lineup, yet the same people will say Xbox has no games...

Mario Tennis Aces

Hollow Knight (Switch exclusive on consoles so far)

Sushi Striker

Octopath Traveler

Mario + DK expansion

Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

Monster Hunter GU

Yep, these are all late ports of multiplats and indies right?

Working through Pato Box right now; have Pool Panic, Cosmic Star Heroine, Read Only Memory, Mon Hun, and Hyper Light Drifter in my sights.

I don't have enough time for this.

If you don't have one of the other big two or pc, and didn't have a wii u, that's a great lineup.

What exactly are you "bringing up"? Who is pretending anything you claimed?

Why do people assume that everyone posting has played every videogame ever made at launch?

This is an gaming enthusiast forum, it's safe to assume that, on here at least. Most people have already played a lot of the games the first time they came out.

I feel this list will look better when everything goes cheaper. Hard to recommend many of these titles when you can get them significantly cheaper on other platforms.

Even new releases like Overcooked 2 are higher priced on Switch compared to other platforms.

That comment doesn't bother me, nor would I care if it was said in a thread like that, that had a list of a good amount of ports or games available elsewhere. This stuff is largely based on the individual and is subjective as hell, why would someone's subjective opinion on a line up bother me. How is it any more pointless than your comments in this thread or those that say, yeah the lineup has been insane? I just find it funny that specific comment bothers you.

My first comment was that although for me the Switch's summer is packed, I can see how other's see it as dry and there are very clear reasons why.

Isn't that just for the physical version? It's the same price digitally on all platforms.

Dude simply listed some cool, critically acclaimed games. But I guess every thread is now an invitation to systemwar dickwave.

So your issue wasn't that people pretended those were all new games, which nobody did, but the premise of the thread itself and that OP called the Switch lineup amazing?

I hope you'll find the strength to forgive him.

It forever stuns me how people don't view indies as proper games
The only indie on the list is Hollow Knight
Why do people assume that everyone posting has played every videogame ever made at launch?
I don't think anyone is saying anything like that. I'm also not sure what your point is- unless you deeply value the portable aspect, most of the old ports are cheaper, perform better, and come with trophy support on the systems they are already released on. Or in Wii U's case, it's at least cheaper (and you probably already own it, since good Wii U games were so few and far between).
