I am a huge switch fan and that is a great list of games, the problem is nothing really jumps out at me. Low to mid tier third party games, DLC and years old ports. Mario Tennis was a let down.

Besides Hollow Knight, I either already played these games on other consoles or have no interest in them.

Can't say the Switch doesn't have games - just not the ones that I'm looking for just yet.

It made a lot of the games holding up the switch lineup so far.
This is actually another relevant point. As someone who didn't own a Wii U, I enjoyed the first half of the year more than most. I discovered Bayonetta and played what I think is the best Donkey Kong game ever made... I welcome as many Wii U ports as possible! Give me my damn TMS#FE port NIntendo!

I get your point but you are talking about a small amount of overlap when you bring PC into the mix.
Thats why there is such a thing as CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE because a lot of the gaming public are having their first experience of a game on a console. Furthermore this is a gaming enthusiast forum. The average poster is going to have more than one system. That list is just full of redundancy.

Hmm well I got mario rabbids gold so I got the DK expansion and it's pretty good so far. Other than that I don't see anything that I'll get any time soon. Octopath is wait for a big sale and captain toad looks like it'd be fun for a couple of hours but probably way too easy so I'd wait for it to be $20, but it is a Nintendo game so looks like I'll be waiting for 4 years.

Just about everything else on there is a port so they don't count for me. I'm going to rebuy wolfenstein 2 on PC later this year.

I'm not even a huge wii u fan as someone that got it at launch, but this is flat out not true. 2014 and even 2015 are both still better than this year. This is comparable 2013 wii u.

Not true. Yes, there aren't as many original first party games this year, but even then, Nintendo is still releasing Switch games at a consistent rate. Every month they're releasing 1-3 games for the system where as you'd have to wait 3-8 months to see maybe 2-3 games from them on Wii U. Plus, the Switch's third party support and indie lineup is far better and more reliable than the Wii U's and is only getting better, while the Wii U saw less and less support as the years went by.

I'm not arguing with that one bit. I'm saying that if that's true, then that's true of every console ever, especially since multi platform games started to be a thing.
The interesting thing to me is your final observation- this is an enthusiast forum, and the average person owns more than just one system. Absolutely. So why does a perceived dry spell for one system matter, when you have something else to pick up the slack? As an example, the second half of last year through to January this year I only used my Switch, and didn't use my PS4. From January to late May this year, I mostly used my PS4, with some Xbox sprinkled in, and didn't touch my Switch. In both cases, that the systems not being used didn't have much to offer to me didn't bother me, because the others did. If someone owns more than one system, why does it matter if one of them goes unused for a while as you focus on the other?

Maybe, but I know I used the wii u a ton in both 2014 and 2015, but not at all for the switch this year.

Yeah, this is really fucking weird about this board. There's this constant need to devalue other systems than your main one.

I think the big issue is that when you remove Wii U ports and ports from other platforms the lineup gets remarkably thinner.

Like I don't hate the system, quite the opposite, but I remember being mocked for posting these kinds of lists in the Wii U era saying that I have plenty to play.

Yeah I was a Wii U owner so this list really doesn't do it for me, still picking up Toad because I never got it on the U and Octopath. Outside of that it's just not really doing it for me, I've probably played about 10-20 hours on the Switch this year and that's all Xenoblade.

Because if you have multiple platforms there is really nothing for you most of those games already released on other platforms are cheaper and most of the time perform better in the other contenders. I myself only need octo path from that list so it's is pretty dry

Yup. I literally don't get it. Like, you can't have it both ways lol. If you own multiple systems, then one of them not having much to offer you for a bit shouldn't matter.

Speaking of not having it both ways, I still don't understand why third party or multiplat releases on the Switch suddenly don't count...

If you're a Wii U owner, it's understandable if you're disappointed. If you don't care about portability or third party games, then I can see the disappointment as well. But to claim this is some objective software drought, let alone one as bad as some of Nintendo's past consoles is honestly laughable. This is the best a Nintendo platform has had in terms of software in years, especially if you only own a Switch. And if you own a PS4 or PC, even then the Switch is worth a look if you want to take some of your favorite console games on the go.

Glad someone posted this, I literally haven't touched my ps4 in two weeks. Switch is killing it right now with games. Glad to be enjoying a Nintendo console again, myself personally.

How many platforms let you play these games on the go with ease though?

Considering as well this thread was never about the other systems at all. Not once did I mention PS4 and XBOX. It's kinda hilarious in a way.
You mentioned ports in your post. A good chunk of these games are ports. You're on a board of 'core' gamers where owning multiple consoles, especially ones as different as PS4/XBOX, PC, and Switch are, is commonplace, and you're surprised that people are downplaying your use of 'killing it'?

Come on.

I feel like people are schizophrenic when it comes to the Switch on this board. I swear just a week or two ago I was reading a bunch of people complaining about how nothing is coming out for the Switch.

This is an gaming enthusiast forum, it's safe to assume that, on here at least. Most people have already played a lot of the games the first time they came out.

I feel this list will look better when everything goes cheaper. Hard to recommend many of these titles when you can get them significantly cheaper on other platforms.

Even new releases like Overcooked 2 are higher priced on Switch compared to other platforms.

Its not that safe of an assumption. People aren't made of money. People have different priorities. Sure, there is a percentage of users that get there Day 1. Its nowhere close to assume everyone has played everything. You see how many games are listed above? There are new games released everyday.

I haven't even gotten to games I wanted in 2016

The only indie on the list is Hollow Knight

I don't think anyone is saying anything like that. I'm also not sure what your point is- unless you deeply value the portable aspect, most of the old ports are cheaper, perform better, and come with trophy support on the systems they are already released on. Or in Wii U's case, it's at least cheaper (and you probably already own it, since good Wii U games were so few and far between).

Yes, all of these games can be found cheaper. Suppose someone enjoys playing on Switch more than other consoles? Suppose they only have a Switch for reasons?

My point is the exact sentence you quoted. Don't assume everybody plays everything immediately. A port is just an extra choice. More choices dont hurt anyone.

I completely agree with that. I'm not perturbed by the fact that there would be little to play on the Switch right now (Which isn't the case there is plenty for me to play). Even my X1 gets a decent amount of play right now due to some of the better performing multi-plats but again if I'm going to go to the effort to make A LIST its not going to include all the titles that are available elsewhere.
Thats just how I feel about it

I mean you basically just buy everything that comes out on the Switch, anybody can do that for any console and say the lineup is healthy.

I own a PS4 and a PC capable of playing games, so late ports and indie games I've played elsewhere don't exactly scream "killing it" to me. But at least Octopath is out and Monster Hunter is next month. But even then it's a shame that's pretty much all I'll get for the rest of the year.

Sorry but i wouldn't trade performance for portability most of those games I already played on pc and ps4. I am a parent so I could care less about portability, my daughter loves it as in a child it's easier to move around while playing, but I personally don't care I care about fidelity and performance.

The main issue with this thread that for most people saying the Switch Summer line up as "killing it" is a massive stretch.

yeah that's kind of how that works, the games that are available for purchase constitute a platform's lineup and having many good games to buy would signify that the lineup is healthy

this thread is wild
