The White House tonight said they've reunited all the caged immigrant babies and kids they're legally allowed to, in an official statement. Yet almost every press outlet disputes this. But because the horse's mouth said they have, it must be true, right?

Literally embarrassed for everyone in this thread who think Nintendo wouldn't use fairly standard PR tactics.

oh god...

I own a PS4, a Wii U, and a good PC and I LOVE the Switch's lineup this year. Octopath Traveler is the only big new game on any system this year that I'm super excited about and there are so many games (indie & otherwise) that I've been holding off on buying & playing because I was waiting for the superior (to me - portability is a vastly bigger pro than anything the PC or PS4 versions have to offer most of the time) Switch version.

Same here. besides, I didn't play every game in existence. I finished Inside on Switch for the first time a few days ago, and it was a fantastic experience. it being on other systems before is irrelevant to me. I'm having great fun with the system those days.

That's all it mostly is when we get these "switch is amazing" threads about every month. Constant flood of old games= 24/7 killing it I guess.
I'm not gonna ruin their fun and all. But that's all it is. These were the same people that kept complaining about ports in other consoles so I think it's slightly hypocritical, because like I said, I bet most of these people actually buying those ports and lurking these threads are definitely double or sometimes even triple dipping. It's so bizarre to me

I have more games to play than time. I also have a PS4 and quite a big backlog but most of my free time goes to my Switch since is much more flexible to use and is even making me try games that I ignored on PS4.

For the love of God... Why on Earth would a Nintendo case study ever say the opposite, if they're the ones pushing the portability narrative?

Even if the ratio of their data sampling is correct, what is that data sampling and what filters have they switched on? If their sample is from the get-go a survey of 500 Switch users that use Switch as a portable device in ANY capacity, then that's that.

Wait, so you're saying now that Nintendo is lying?

Jesus, this thread brings the best.

Glad to to see this.

The dissonance between the #nintendoomed "no games for me" noise, and the ridiculous amount of games I'm playing and excited for on Switch is mind boggling.

Ports hold more weight on Switch compared to most consoles due to it's portability and play-styles. Yes, people played better versions of Wolfenstein II on other consoles before, but you can now play the full version (abiet down-scaled) of the game anywhere you go. There's also the fact that games take time to make, especially these days, so it'll be a while before more original content or day-to-date releases from third parties start coming.

The Switch has been worlds better than the Wii U in that regard. I feel like people who only own a Switch would actually have no trouble finding plenty of options at all times though the system's life, unlike the true Wii U droughts of the past.

Not a whole lot for me this summer outside of maybe Octopath (I have a PC and the other consoles), but the pace of releases on the Switch is pretty great so far.

Since you seem reluctant to respond to me for some reason, I will mention, for the third time, this article that mentions how they found that data.
"Showing hardware where play time for either docked or undocked modes exceeds 80% as "gameplay in XX mode is primary"
"Source: Nintendo"

So again, as I said, they may have filtered out everyone that plays the console exclusively in docked mode.

So if you're only looking at players that play in both docked and undocked modes, of course you're going to get figures to support the portability narrative, because absolutely everyone in your sample plays the Switch in portable mode, whether it's 80% of the time or just 5%.

Those that play it 100% in docked mode may not even be in the sample. I'm willing to say they aren't.

As someone who buys whatever game looks interesting, it's weird how October looks more sparse than July right now as things stand. For me anyway.

Hell November is...just Pokemon? December is currently just Smash.

Curious to see where Tales of Vesperia and TWEWY land this fall (if it all).

Whereas in a 30 day span I've purchased:

YS 8
Lumines
Shining Force
Octopath Traveler
Captain Toad
Megaman X collection

That's a solid indie lineup for Switch-only users, but the only Summer games I'd actually get for it are Octopath Traveler and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

I'm personally not blown away, but Summer is typically dry as expected.

This thread is wild with haters lol.

I haven't put my switch down all summer, it seems like something I'm interested in comes out every other week. So far, in no particular order...

Street Fighter Anniversary
Yoko's Island Express
Bloodstained
Lumines
Hollow Knight
Octopath

Can't wait to see what else Nintendo has in store later this year!

I don't care. If your government can openly and gleefully bullshit you in official statements that'll be documented for all time in the history books, of course Nintendo are going to fudge numbers in a shareholders PowerPoint presentation.
Heads up, said numbers were in a statement made to investors. They would be committing fraud if they were lying in a statement to their investors with falsified numbers.
Of course, now you will tell me that if the government can do it, Nintendo sure can get away with it too.

Your salt at people actually enjoying the Switch will never cease to amuse me, Derrick.

It's more a general annoyance at how switch fans need constant affirmation that the system is legit by highlighting a monthly list of mostly ports that everyone here's already played. No one else really needs this kind of attention, not nearly as often at least. You guys are turning into hybrid owners from 10 years ago.

So for your example about companies fudging numbers about usability among their playerbase for a videogame system, you decide to use immigrant children ripped away from their families?

You're not selling your point, you're just coming off like a fucking lunatic.

I was worried after E3, since the beginning half of the year felt pretty sparse, but we've got a good amount of content flowing in now that is more than I can devote the time to play all of it. It's a good problem to have though.

Two things:
  • This exact thing happened with the Vita and PS4 all the time on the old place, you never once complained about that, ever
  • The Switch is a hybrid

Well, for starters, the 50% both, 30% portable-only, 20% docked-only information was from an official financial report so you can question the accuracy of their data, but if they're outright lying that's illegal.

There's also the evidence available to all to see that the Switch is selling incredibly fast and that even late ports are selling better than on other platforms which certainly suggests that people are using the major unique feature of the system.

I hope more M-rated fare comes to the system soon. Don't judge me.
I hope so, too. The breadth of variety on the system is unlike anything we've gotten with Nintendo hardware in a long, long time, but it can always stand to be even stronger. Nintendo putting their weight on Bethesda's games is a really nice start as far as they're concerned, but Dark Souls Remastered going MIA for unspecified reasons has put a hamper on the hype for that title. Warframe is a great get for the system, so we'll hopefully see more soon in this field.

I have seen you rant about this at PC Gaming Era too. It makes you look like having a beef with the system rather than these threads. People can enjoy what they like, just like you should also enjoy what you like. No need to call out others for enjoying something.

I haven't been on gaf since early 2014 I think and by hybrid I meant the car.
I know what you meant, won't stop me from joking about it.

Early 2014, Vita stuff was still happening, dude. My point is this: be less dour. If people are enjoying their shit, let them enjoy it. Why does it bother you? If you don't personally enjoy what others like, move on.

The switch has been pretty disappointing for me this year. A lot of old ports( that perform and look worse) of games I've already played before for a higher price. Octopath is the first game I genuinely was interested in this year, but a lot of the reviews are turning me off from it. I don't really care about the portability aspect of the system at all. If I am in a position where I can't use my tv screen I probably can't be playing games at all.

Nintendo consoles will always be my secondary console that I use for one of a kind Nintendo games and nothing else. It has been that way since the 64 for me.

This is true, the Vita phase was just as insufferable. I had mostly forgotten that was a thing for a brief time over there, but I do remember criticizing it just as much now. I remember smokeydave used to get mad at me for calling it out, mostly for it getting nothing of note besides late and often inferior ports. For the record I also had a Vita for a short time, not even as long as I've had a Switch by now I think.

...jesus the parallels are eerie now that you have me thinking about it.

Once upon a time, people said Switch wouldn't even get some of these ports. It's annoying but it's reactionary.

come on dude, you're complaining that people are creating threads to praise something they like? More threads like should be created because in the end that means people are happy with their videogames and this, being a videogame community, will become a better place.

:)
