Why is so much taken out?
Somebody gotta fund that wall.

How do I keep my identity hidden if I win, I don't want every poor person begging for my money and trying to kill me?

Lottery tickets are such a raw deal since the odds are so incredibly tiny. I think I've only ever bought one four or five years ago. The allure of just instantly getting rich is always so tempting to give in to though.

If i won I'd probably put 90% of it in an index and the rest would be accessible as I explore the complete North American continent on my Ducati Multistrada

And I would get everyone here a top of the line fleshlight/vibrator

they arent tiny, they are incomprehensibly small, so small that we cant imagine that its impossible to win. thats what makes it such a lucrative business. no one on this forum is ever gonna win the jackpot. i would comfortably bet my life on it.

This is proof we're all a little greedy. Like, $200m is more than you can reasonably use in a lifetime. The other $300 you were going to do what with?

You guys should all be rooting for me to win. I'd throw some cash platinum games' way and tell them to make Godhand 2 (or the spiritual successor if capcom doesnt wanna license the ip).

I'd also get to work on my Gundam. Not sure this pocket change will cover that endeavor though.

They should tax billionaires the same way they tax lotto winners

Most of the amount taken out is from choosing the lump sum instead of the annuity. Then there are the taxes. I'm buying a few tickets tonight.

If I win, I'll donate a million dollars to:
St. Judes Childrens Hospital
Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights
Michael J Fox Parkinsons Foundation

If I won I'd start a thread titled "BREAKING NEWS: MEGA MILLIONS WINNER IS..."

*Embedded video of I Got A Golden Ticket*

Followed by several posters posting images of Slugworth.

It would suck if some gamer got it and he donated the winnings to Star Citizen or something.

I forgot to buy tickets last time but I've got two tickets for this time around. Probably buy a dinosaur and donate it to Era if I win.

I don't play until the expected payout (in terms of probability) meets or exceeds the cost of playing. Unless I'm mistaken, that's when the prize is roughly $518,000,000.

The taxes sound off for me as a german. If you win the lottery you get the full price and start to pay the taxes of the earnings you do with that won money (in the next fiscal year).
However, I hope someone will win. I would do so many things with 200 million.

Seems like the best thing to do if you win the lottery is to immediately fuck off to some armed compound on an island nation where your shitty relatives can't hire people to kill you.

Those inquiring about the taxes have to remember that it's not a set rate. Federal is static and is 25% or so, but state taxes vary and some states have no tax at all.

Depending on which state you actually win in, you could lose or gain like 24 million in tax. lol Not to mention the lump sum vs annuity argument. In this case that's literally 100+ million more/less depending how you take your winnings.

500 million or 500 billion doesn't matter for shit. Lotteries are a scam.
Well, yea. Unless you're like anyone in the history of the lottery who has actually won. I'm sure they're highly upset at the millions they've been given. :p

Someone's gotta win.

Buying more than one lottery ticket per drawing is irrational. Multiplying effectively zero by 5 is still effectively zero.

Buying one is fun though.

Is the 204 million making the assumption you take all the money at once or do monthly allotments? I was under the impression you got less if you took it all at once. Not that it matters when there's this much money involved.

Advertised rate is if you take monthly payments for 25 years.

Op title is lump sum cash which op is using to fearmonger about taxes

It's so crazy to me that if you just throw all of your winnings into a savings bank account and just collect the low interest (~1%) you can still live super comfortably. It is an insane amount of money.

Could give less than a shit about taxes when you're getting 200 million for free. Most people bust their asses their entire lives and wont see anywhere near .5 percent of that.

It's the lump sum depending on your state. If you do annuity instead, it's like 340 million over time instead.

Oh, and it's either lump sum or yearly payments. There's no monthly option.
