Are we really surprised that an 87-year old man isn't for gay rights? Like, it's not that rare in that age group.
EDIT: Wishing for someone's death makes you just as bad.
lol

Is it weird that I feel more uncomfortable with people boycotting DQ11 than people wishing for his death?
I think there's a difference in wanting someone gone because they're actively harming people and wanting someone gone because they're LGBT. Just me, though.
It's a very specific program that panders to that audience apparently. Haven't heard of it before this thing blew up, but it sure fits into the sort of message Sugiyama likes to be involved in. Pretty gross stuff. The good news is that it's not a mainstream broadcast thing, so the usual reach is limited unless it goes viral to shame.
How many other franchises suffer from the same musical fate as DQ? Because it really does seem like he's an ass. This shows a real lack of understanding over music ownership. The composer owns the music. This guy is a prick, but don't equate retaining copyright as being "an ass".
I think it's fine to wish for him to not have a platform anymore, and of course to lose any power he has to harm anyone. I just don't think it's cool to gleefully await anyone's death. I'm not going to derail this with my Quaker silliness anymore though.I think there's a difference in wanting someone gone because they're actively harming people and wanting someone gone because they're LGBT. No shortages of fantastic composers in the industry, and other SE games already have phenomenal orchestrated music.
Any good composer? Like... His music is not that unique and S-E have plenty of talented composers at their disposal.
I wonder, does he have the rights to the most iconic pieces of DQ music? Because that is the only reason I can see for them not sending him to kick rocks and finance more propaganda.
yoko shinamura is one.No shortages of fantastic composers in the industry, and other SE games already have phenomenal orchestrated music.
I sincerely hope you're even half as diligent as calling out "the same thing" from the other side.
His death won't damage my ears.Is it weird that I feel more uncomfortable with people boycotting DQ11 than people wishing for his death?
If I recall Japanese people are notoriously racist and homophobic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard this stated numerous times.
Because people won't buy the game you enjoy? Did anyone boycotting tell you that you shouldn't buy it? Yes I think it's very weird you feel that way.Is it weird that I feel more uncomfortable with people boycotting DQ11 than people wishing for his death?
Why?Ah the internet, where people happily still wish for other´s death even in 2018. This just shows people aren´t growing or getting better.
His views are offensive, but that doesn´t justify wanting him dead.
I don't personally wish death on anyone, I just find little reason to care for someone who spent all of their life spewing hate. Live or die he is a horrible person.
Dude is 87 and still actively promoting repugnant ideals. Fuck him, no octaganarian is going to suddenly change their entire world viewAh the internet, where people happily still wish for other´s death even in 2018. This just shows people aren´t growing or getting better.

I wouldn't be opposed to people boycotting DQXI but it's kind of a different scenario. His shitty views haven't dictated the world and tone of the gameI look forward to the same condemnation and boycott of his games on this site as we got during the Kingdom Come release period earlier this year.
I agree he's a really shitty person.I don't personally wish death on anyone, I just find little reason to care for someone who spent all of their life spewing hate. Live or die he is a horrible person.

It's really not that unusual to have a special status composer exclusive to a JRPG franchise. Also the history of Dragon Quest, and how established Sugiyama reached out to early days Enix, is probably why he's stuck around so long. How many other franchises suffer from the same musical fate as DQ? You didn't really answer my question. I'm honestly scratching my head trying to think of other games that have composers deathgripping their music like this dude to the point of negatively effecting overseas releases and attempting to wring out concert money. It's really not that unusual to have a special status composer exclusive to a JRPG franchise. Also the history of Dragon Quest, and how established Sugiyama reached out to early days Enix, is probably why he's stuck around so long.
Complaining about him being associated with DQ is like complaining about John Williams being associated with Star Wars, where he's one of the creative leads during development and not "just" the composer.

Yasunori Nishiki has more than proven his compositional chops with Octopath Traveler. Outside of Square Enix, Kohei Tanaka has shown the ability to produce grand and majestic orchestral pieces befitting Dragon Quest as well.So who'd likely replace him if he left/were fired from the series?
Heh, indeed. People live of hate, and love to feed hate of people who hate the wrong things they hate. Hate makes the world go around. No hugs allowed :pAh the internet, where people happily still wish for other´s death even in 2018. This just shows people aren´t growing or getting better.
