If it helps, none of that hateful shit actually makes it into the game itself. One of the playable party members is even a respectfully written, probably gay guy.

I just hope there is someone like similar to him in terms of style in making DQ games. I really love his OST and I find him to be the G.O.A.T video game composer. He is getting up there in age anyways. What I don't like about him is just hating us western JRPG fans and not giving the go ahead for the western release to have orchestrated music. This is where I think FF dwells over DQ here. They go with the western market.

You don't get DQ music without MIDI because of him. And while Sugiyama music always will be iconic, many people can replace him. Japan has many talented composers to do it inspired by it, including into Square Enix or freelancers.

Sylvia is definitely exaggeratedly stereotyped a bit for comedy's sake. He's still an actual good character but yeah. From Western sensibilities he's actually probably closer to a transexual than a homosexual what with 'his heart being a woman' and all that. But with the way okama stereotypes in Japan work who knows what the actual aim is. He'll probably be toned down for the English release anyway.

Having just finished the game recently, I can say I was surprised at how they treat him, in a good way.
Yes, he talks in an effeminate way, but the game doesn't make a point of it. He's never ridiculed, and he doesn't hit on anyone (so it's not even clear what his sexual preference is).
I was constantly expecting some misplaced attempt at humor at his expense, but it never happened, which is probably about as progressive as a Japanese game can get.
Laughing at the deaths of LBGT folks is not "an opinion". It's being a morally reprehensible person. Worse, he has buckets of influence and uses his money to support heinous things. This isn't thinking vanilla is better than chocolate, this is believing your fellow humans are worthless scum and it is not okay.

Not gonna agree with the "opinion" part but even if we were to say let's not "abuse" him, why is it that, that's the only thing you really have to say coming in here?
